Lakeside Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" that offers a direct connection to the water and a more rustic outdoor experience? Lakeside Campground in Johnston County, Oklahoma, might be the destination you're looking for. Situated directly on the lake, this campground offers a unique opportunity for campers to enjoy waterfront access, particularly for those interested in boating and fishing. However, it's crucial for potential visitors to be aware of the limited amenities reported by recent campers to ensure it aligns with their expectations for a "camping near me" experience.
The primary draw of Lakeside Campground is undoubtedly its location. The ability to camp right by the lake and, in some instances, pull your boat directly up to the shore by your camper is a significant advantage for boating enthusiasts. This unparalleled access to the water makes it an attractive option for those planning fishing trips, watersports activities, or simply enjoying leisurely boat rides. Imagine the convenience of launching your boat and having it right at your campsite – a feature that truly sets Lakeside Campground apart for those prioritizing lake access in their "camping near me" search.
However, recent reviews highlight some important considerations regarding the amenities available at Lakeside Campground. One camper explicitly stated that the site they experienced had no electrical hookups, no running water, and no toilets directly at the campsites. They mentioned the presence of pit toilets located at a day-use area approximately a mile away. This lack of basic amenities like electricity and on-site restrooms suggests a more primitive camping experience, which might appeal to those seeking a rugged outdoor adventure but could be a significant drawback for campers accustomed to more developed campgrounds.
Another reviewer who stayed in the "A loop" mentioned the availability of 30 amp electrical service at their site. However, they reported frequent issues with the breaker tripping, particularly when trying to run power-intensive appliances like the air conditioner and microwave simultaneously. This suggests that while some sites might offer electrical hookups, the system's reliability could be a concern. It is highly recommended to inquire specifically about the electrical capabilities of your chosen site when making a reservation and to be prepared for potential limitations.
Furthermore, the second reviewer noted the absence of sewer hookups at the campsites due to the lakeside location. However, they did mention the availability of several dump sites within the campground. This is an important consideration for RV campers who will need to utilize these dump stations during their stay. Planning accordingly for waste disposal is essential when considering Lakeside Campground as your "camping near me" option.
The reviews also touched upon the condition of the lake and the boat ramp. One visitor reported that the lake level was significantly lower than the boat ramp allowed, making it impossible to launch a boat directly from the campground's ramp. They speculated that boat launching might be possible elsewhere in the wilderness area. This information is crucial for boaters planning to use the on-site facilities and suggests that alternative launching points might be necessary depending on the current lake conditions. It would be prudent to check the latest lake levels and boat ramp conditions before your visit.
Despite the limitations in amenities, the second reviewer described the location as "nice" and acknowledged that the inconvenience was "pretty much worth it" due to the fantastic lake access. They also mentioned a positive note about potential future improvements, stating that the campsites appeared to be undergoing refurbishment, with the hope that the electrical systems would be upgraded. This suggests that the campground management might be aware of some of the shortcomings and is taking steps to address them, which could be a positive sign for future visitors seeking "camping near me" with improved facilities.
In summary, Lakeside Campground in Johnston County, OK, offers a unique and potentially rewarding camping experience for those who prioritize direct lake access and are prepared for more limited amenities. The ability to pull your boat up to your campsite is a significant advantage for boaters. However, potential visitors should be aware of the reported lack of running water and on-site toilets in some areas, the potentially unreliable 30 amp electrical service in at least one loop, and the absence of sewer hookups at the campsites. The condition of the boat ramp and lake levels should also be checked before arrival.
For local users searching for "camping near me" with a focus on lake activities, Lakeside Campground presents a compelling option due to its waterfront location. However, it is essential to weigh the incredible lake access against the more rustic nature of the facilities based on the available reviews. If you value being right on the water and are comfortable with fewer amenities, or if you are primarily interested in a basecamp for boating and fishing, Lakeside Campground could be a great fit. Keep in mind the potential for ongoing refurbishments that might lead to improved facilities in the future.
Given the limited information and the varying experiences reported in the reviews, it is strongly recommended that potential visitors contact the relevant authorities or look for more up-to-date information online before planning a trip to Lakeside Campground. Inquiring about the specific amenities available at different campsites, the current condition of the boat ramp and lake levels, and the progress of any ongoing refurbishments will help ensure a more informed and enjoyable "camping near me" experience at Lakeside Campground in Johnston County, OK.

Lakeside Campground Reviews
Not sure what planet Jean Beilmann lives on. This site has no electrical, no running water, no toilets. There are pit toilets at a day use area about a mile away. The Lake is much lower than the boat ramp allows, there is no way to put in a boat at this campground. Perhaps elsewhere in the wilderness area. Yes, there are picnic tables.
Dec 15, 2024 · RexNice location. Not the most convenient place we have camped. The site we were in had 30 amp service (A loop) that blew the breaker several times a day. Couldn't run the air and the microwave simultaneously. Due to the location on the lake there are no sewer hookups - there are several dump sites. The location on the lake is great and you can pull your boat up to the shore by your camper so the inconvenience is pretty much worth it. I think that the camp sites are being refurbished so hopefully the electrical will be upgraded.
