Lapham Peak Backpacking Campsite Introduce
For local users in Wisconsin and the surrounding areas searching for "camping near me" that offers a truly immersive and secluded wilderness experience, the Lapham Peak Backpacking Campsite, located in Delafield, WI 53018, USA, stands out as a brilliant option. Situated within the renowned Lapham Peak State Park, this campsite caters specifically to backpackers and those seeking a primitive camping adventure away from the more developed areas of the park.
Based on the enthusiastic reviews from fellow campers, the Lapham Peak Backpacking Campsite provides a unique and highly desirable environment. One camper who spent three days at the site described the location as "brilliant, natural, and lovely." This highlights the inherent beauty and pristine quality of the surroundings, appealing to those who value immersion in nature. The reviewer also noted being "never bothered by other people, except when trekking the popular trails," indicating that the backpacking campsite itself offers a significant degree of seclusion and tranquility, a key draw for those seeking a peaceful escape.
The specific backpacking campsite where the reviewer stayed is described as "secluded and surprisingly lacking in bothersome insects." This is a significant advantage, as insects can often detract from the enjoyment of a wilderness camping experience. The favorable mention of the lack of bugs suggests that, at least during certain times of the year, this campsite offers a more comfortable environment compared to some other primitive locations.
The features of this particular backpacking campsite are well-documented in the review, providing valuable information for prospective campers. It includes "a flat location," essential for comfortable tent setup. A "picnic table" offers a convenient surface for meals and organizing gear. The presence of "two hammock distance apart trees" is a notable feature for those who enjoy hammock camping, providing a ready-made setup. A "fire pit" allows for campfires (subject to park regulations), crucial for cooking and warmth. Additionally, the site includes "one stationary and one moveable bench," offering flexible seating options. Perhaps most importantly for a primitive site, it features "an outhouse stocked with toilet paper," a welcome convenience that elevates the experience beyond true backcountry camping while still maintaining a primitive feel.
The reviewer's concluding remark, "I was in pure bushcraft heaven," speaks volumes about the suitability of this campsite for those who enjoy a more self-sufficient and natural camping style, often associated with bushcraft activities.
Another camper also lauded the site as a "Great primitive site" and emphasized its size, describing it as "(its HUGE)." This suggests that the backpacking campsites at Lapham Peak offer ample space, allowing for comfortable setup and movement. The reviewer also reiterated the seclusion, noting it is "secluded enough from the main trail that you rarely see anyone." This reinforces the appeal for those seeking privacy and a sense of being deep in nature.
The presence of a "vault toilet on site" is mentioned again, confirming this valuable amenity. The reviewer also highlighted the ample seating around the fire ring, stating "plenty of seating around the fire ring for a family!" This indicates that while designated as a backpacking campsite, it can comfortably accommodate small groups or families who are prepared for a carry-in, carry-out experience.
The overall impression is highly positive, with the reviewer stating, "Very impressed and will rent again." This strong endorsement from a repeat visitor speaks to the quality and appeal of the Lapham Peak Backpacking Campsite.
