Black Lake Campground Introduce
For those in Wisconsin and neighboring states seeking a tranquil and picturesque "camping near me" experience in the heart of Northern Wisconsin, Black Lake Campground, located in Loretta, WI 54896, USA, offers an idyllic escape. While the address provided is general, the positive reviews paint a clear picture of a "beautiful rustic campground" that prioritizes peace, privacy, and stunning lake access. Sharing the same phone numbers as Emily Lake Campground, (715) 362-1300 and +1 715-362-1300, it suggests a connection in management or region, further solidifying its place within the well-regarded camping options of the area.
The environment of Black Lake Campground is consistently described as "beautiful" and "gorgeous," with a strong emphasis on its natural, rustic charm. A significant draw is the fact that "many of the sites are on the lake with lake access," allowing campers to enjoy the serene waterfront directly from their campsites. This provides unparalleled opportunities for swimming, fishing, kayaking, or simply relaxing by the water's edge. The presence of "good tree coverage between sites" is another key environmental feature, highly valued by campers seeking privacy and a sense of seclusion within nature. This natural separation enhances the peaceful atmosphere and allows for a more intimate camping experience.
The overall ambiance of Black Lake Campground is described as "super quiet and peaceful," making it an ideal destination for those looking to escape the noise and stress of everyday life. The tranquility of the lakeside setting, combined with the natural screening provided by the trees, creates a truly relaxing environment. This peacefulness is a major selling point for local users searching for "camping near me" who prioritize a quiet and restful outdoor getaway.
Adding to the charm and accessibility of the campground, each site reportedly features "a little path to get onto the trail that goes around the lake and a path to get down to the water." This thoughtful design allows campers easy access to both the lake itself and a potentially scenic hiking trail encircling it. The presence of "Every site also has a fire pit" is a standard and much-appreciated amenity for enjoying campfires, cooking outdoors, and creating a classic camping atmosphere.
In terms of essential services, Black Lake Campground provides a "water pump on site that requires a little bit of force but works well," indicating a source of potable water for campers. The "Bathrooms were clean and tidy," which is a crucial aspect for camper comfort and hygiene. While the facilities might be more rustic, the emphasis on cleanliness is a significant positive. The campground operates on a mixed system of "First come first served" sites alongside "reservable sites," offering flexibility for both spontaneous and planned camping trips.
A practical detail mentioned in a review is the affordable pricing: "$15 per night or $7.50 with discount pass." This makes Black Lake Campground an exceptionally budget-friendly option for local campers, especially when compared to potentially more expensive private campgrounds in the region. The availability of a discount pass further enhances its affordability for frequent visitors or those meeting specific criteria.
While the lake itself is praised as "gorgeous," one reviewer noted that "the hiking path around it was very overgrown and muddy," which limited their ability to explore it fully. This is an important piece of information for campers who are particularly interested in hiking the lake trail; however, it does not detract from the overall positive experience of the campground itself and the access to the lake.
Considering the positive reviews and the described environment, services, and features, Black Lake Campground offers a compelling package for local users searching for "camping near me." Key highlights include:
- Beautiful and rustic natural setting on Black Lake.
- Many campsites with direct lake access for swimming, fishing, and boating.

- The unparalleled lakefront camping experience with direct lake access from many sites.
- The privacy afforded by the good tree coverage between campsites.
- The super quiet and tranquil atmosphere for a relaxing getaway.
- Its affordability, especially the low nightly rate and potential discount pass.
- The opportunities for lakeside activities and enjoying the natural beauty of Black Lake.
- Highlighting the easy access to a hiking trail around the lake (while perhaps acknowledging the current condition of the trail).

The consistent praise for the beauty and peacefulness of Black Lake Campground, coupled with its affordability and lake access, positions it as a highly desirable option for local residents looking for a "camping near me" destination that prioritizes natural beauty and tranquility. Despite the noted condition of the hiking trail, the overall positive sentiment suggests that the core camping experience at Black Lake Campground is exceptional and well worth considering for a relaxing lakeside retreat in Northern Wisconsin.

Black Lake Campground Reviews
Beautiful rustic campground. Had a very peaceful night here. Many of the sites are on the lake with lake access and there's good tree coverage between sites for privacy.
Sep 17, 2024 · Christopher GoodBeautiful campground with many campsites on the lake. Super quiet and peaceful. Each site has a little path to get onto the trail that goes around the lake and a path to get down to the water. Every site also has a fire pit. There’s one water pump on site that requires a little bit of force but works well. Bathrooms were clean and tidy. First come first served are mixed within the reservable sites. $15 per night or $7.50 with discount pass. The lake was gorgeous but the hiking path around it was very overgrown and muddy so I couldn’t really get too far.
Jun 25, 2021 · Kyle PerfectOne of the best camping spots we’ve been to in a while. Had an awesome spot right on the water with space for the dogs to swim and a big, open site for us to set up and relax. Hosts were really kind as well.Only 45 minutes from Hayward too should you need to get back to reality (and cell service) at all.
Jul 16, 2022 · Dillon PomeroyBeautiful views! The only drawback was that site 15 and site 13 are back to back. There is nothing separating the sites. This is a waterfront site but there is no immediate access directly to the water, you need to walk past site 13 and down a little path. Well worth it! There is not much of a beach, maybe about a foot of sand and then there's the water. We did not try out the lakeside trail as we heard wolves right across the lake the night before and we have two very excitable dogs. Would I come back again? Yes! Reserve your site early.
Sep 05, 2019 · Heather HechtA well-maintained family campground with a reasonably nice swimming beach. A hiking trail accessible directly from the campground provides a lengthy hike looping Black Lake. This seems to be a popular campground; on a stormy late-August weekend, about 80 percent of sites were occupied.Three walk-in sites are a highlight here. They're located a short distance from the bulk of the drive-in campsites, providing a quiet and private setting for campers willing to carry their gear several hundred feet from their vehicles. All are located directly on the lake.Black Lake is a perfect size for canoeing or kayaking, large enough to make it worth your while putting in a boat and small enough to moderate strong winds. It's entire shore appears to be encompassed by undeveloped national forestland.
