Goose Lake State Forest Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a more traditional and nature-focused "camping near me" experience, Goose Lake State Forest Campground, located near Lake City, Michigan, offers a rustic retreat within a picturesque setting. Situated at Goose Lake Park, Lake City, MI 49651, USA, this state forest campground provides an opportunity to immerse oneself in the natural beauty of Northern Michigan. Reviews from fellow campers offer valuable insights into the environment, services, and features of Goose Lake, allowing prospective visitors to prepare for a more back-to-basics camping adventure.
While a direct phone number for Goose Lake State Forest Campground is not provided in the available information, inquiries and reservations for Michigan State Forest Campgrounds can typically be made through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website or by contacting the DNR directly. It is advisable to check the DNR website for specific information regarding Goose Lake, including availability, fees, and any specific regulations.
The environment of Goose Lake State Forest Campground is described as "rustic," indicating a more natural and less developed camping experience. The "maintained dirt through roads" suggest that while the campground is accessible, the infrastructure is kept to a minimum, emphasizing the natural surroundings. The presence of "insulated fire rings" at each campsite allows for safe and enjoyable campfires, a quintessential part of the camping experience. The campground is situated near Goose Lake Park, implying direct or very close access to Goose Lake itself, which is a significant feature for activities like fishing and kayaking, as highlighted by reviewers.
In terms of services and features, Goose Lake offers a more primitive camping experience. Campers should be prepared for "vault toilets only," meaning there are no flush toilets available. Water is accessible via "pump water only," so campers will need to use manual hand pumps to obtain water for their needs. This is an important consideration for planning purposes. On a positive note, "Garbage dumpsters are regularly tended," indicating that while the facilities are rustic, basic sanitation is maintained. One reviewer also mentioned the regular presence of DNR personnel, describing them as "Nice folks," which can provide a sense of security and a point of contact for any questions or concerns.
The primary appeal of Goose Lake State Forest Campground appears to be its natural environment and the opportunities it provides for enjoying nature. Reviewers specifically mentioned activities such as "Fish, kayak, have friends and family time," and "Making memories and returning for the tradition." This paints a picture of a campground favored by those who appreciate a quieter, more nature-oriented experience, focused on outdoor activities and spending quality time with loved ones. The "really nice visuals" and the ability to "enjoy a nice sunset" further underscore the scenic beauty of the location.
However, it is important to note a concern raised by one reviewer regarding some inconsiderate campers who have "loudly party throughout the whole night into morning" and leave "broken bottles, tops, and trash scattered on the sites." While this is not representative of all visitors (as most are there to enjoy nature), it highlights a potential issue of noise and littering that some campers might encounter. The reviewer's mention of the DNR being present regularly suggests that efforts are being made to manage such issues.
Another practical piece of advice from a reviewer is to "have your current fishing license on you if you are fishing," which underscores the presence of Goose Lake and the likelihood of fishing being a popular activity. Additionally, one reviewer noted that the "Campground is a tad small for bigger RVs" and that there is "no electric." This is crucial information for RV owners to consider when planning their trip to Goose Lake. The reliance on hand-pumped water also reinforces the rustic nature of the campground.
Regarding promotional information, there are no specific promotions mentioned in the provided reviews. As a state forest campground, fees are typically regulated by the Michigan DNR and are generally quite reasonable. Local users can find information on camping fees and reservation policies on the DNR website. It is advisable to book campsites in advance, especially during peak seasons, as state forest campgrounds can be popular.
In conclusion, Goose Lake State Forest Campground offers a rustic and nature-oriented "camping near me" experience near Lake City, Michigan. Its beautiful setting on Goose Lake provides opportunities for fishing and kayaking, making it a favorite for those seeking a traditional outdoor getaway focused on nature and family time. Campers should be prepared for basic amenities, including vault toilets and pump water, and note that the campground may not be ideal for larger RVs or those requiring electric hookups. While occasional issues with inconsiderate campers have been noted, the regular presence of DNR personnel suggests an effort to maintain a positive environment. Local users looking for a more primitive and scenic camping experience should consider Goose Lake State Forest Campground and consult the Michigan DNR website for reservations and detailed information.

Goose Lake State Forest Campground Reviews
It's rustic with maintained dirt through roads, insulated fire rings, vault toilets and pump water. Garbage dumpsters are regularly tended. Most campers are there to enjoy nature. Fish, kayak, have friends and family time. Making memories and returning for the tradition. Unfortunately, in the last couple of years, some rather inconsiderate few have wanted to loudly party throughout the whole night into morning. Leaving their broken bottles, tops, and trash scattered on the sites. The DNR are in regularly throughout the week. Nice folks. Oh yes, and have your current fishing license on you if you are fishing. ;) :)
Jul 19, 2022 · T KobReally nice visuals, close enough to drive to grab bite, but just far enough out to let you enjoy a nice sunset. Campground is a tad small for bigger RVs, water is available via hand pump only. Heads-up: vault toilets only, and no electric.
Oct 23, 2019 · Curt BrackenrichNice campsites. Clean toilets, water pumps every 100yds or so. Nice boat launch with parking for about 6 cars with trailers. Water is a few feet low do to no snow melt off this yr so deer flys are a bit of a problem so take spray or peppermint. Fished for bass, caught 3 in the 15 to 16 inch range and lost one that had to be 4 or 5 lbs. Caught 4 pike all to small, (hanner handles) $20. Per night. If in that area I would stay again.😊
