Indian Flat RV Park Introduce
Indian Flat RV Park, located at 9988 CA-140, El Portal, CA 95318, USA, serves as a popular and strategically positioned campground for visitors to Yosemite National Park. For those diligently searching "Camping Near Me" with Yosemite as their primary destination, Indian Flat RV Park often appears as a leading option due to its exceptionally close proximity to the park entrance. You can reach them for inquiries and reservations at (209) 379-2612 or +1 209-379-2612.
Indian Flat RV Park is nestled in the scenic Merced River Canyon, just outside the Arch Rock Entrance to Yosemite National Park. The environment is characterized by the rugged beauty of the Sierra Nevada foothills, with towering trees providing shade and a natural backdrop. Being located directly on Highway 140, the main all-weather route into Yosemite, offers both convenience and, at times, road noise, though reviews suggest it can be "a very peaceful place" during quieter seasons. The natural setting allows for opportunities to observe local flora and fauna. While specific views from individual sites might vary, the overall ambiance benefits from the surrounding wilderness. The terrain can be somewhat challenging, as evidenced by a reviewer's concern about a "steep" driveway angle when exiting, which suggests some variation in ground level within the park. The beauty of the environment is undeniably tied to its unparalleled proximity to Yosemite's natural wonders.
Indian Flat RV Park aims to provide essential services for RVers and campers. It offers various camping options, including RV sites and tent sites, with varying levels of hookups. While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, it is standard for RV parks of this nature to offer full hookups (water, electricity, sewer) at RV sites to accommodate modern recreational vehicles. However, a significant service-related point raised by a customer is the lack of clear communication during check-in regarding site logistics, specifically the potential for shared spaces or the need to shift RVs. This suggests an area for improvement in their communication protocols. Another service noted is the availability of dishwashing facilities, though a customer mentioned that it was "a bit difficult washing dishes with only cold water," indicating a potential limitation in that specific amenity. Despite these points, the campground aims to provide fundamental necessities for campers. Restroom facilities are generally available, and their functionality contributes to the overall comfort of a stay. The primary "service" that sets Indian Flat RV Park apart is its strategic location, significantly reducing travel time to and from Yosemite Valley, allowing campers to maximize their time exploring the park.
The most compelling feature of Indian Flat RV Park is its "close to Yosemite Park" location. Being situated in El Portal, it is one of the closest private campgrounds to the Yosemite Arch Rock Entrance, making it an invaluable base for exploring the park's iconic sights without a lengthy commute. This proximity is often the "only saving grace" for some visitors, highlighting its critical advantage. The park offers both RV and tent camping options, catering to a range of outdoor preferences. While some sites might be described as "small" or requiring RVs to "shift" to accommodate neighbors, this indicates a high density of sites, maximizing the number of visitors who can stay close to Yosemite. The park atmosphere can be "peaceful" during off-peak seasons, suggesting that during quieter times, it provides a tranquil retreat after a day of exploration. While specific amenities beyond hookups and dishwashing facilities are not detailed in the provided reviews, RV parks typically offer communal picnic areas, fire rings, and potentially a small camp store for essentials. The natural surroundings contribute to the "great camping spot and atmosphere," especially for those who appreciate being immersed in nature while having the convenience of an RV park. The park's layout, while at times challenging for maneuvering large rigs, allows for efficient use of space to accommodate numerous visitors eager to visit Yosemite.
For individuals searching "Camping Near Me" with a strong focus on Yosemite National Park, Indian Flat RV Park’s primary promotional appeal is its unparalleled proximity to the park entrance. This "gateway to Yosemite" narrative is a powerful magnet for visitors. Customer reviews provide a mixed but ultimately informative picture for prospective campers. The positive feedback highlights the "peaceful place" for rest after long days in Yosemite, especially during "quieter time of the season." This suggests that the park's atmosphere can be highly conducive to relaxation. The "Great camping spot and atmosphere!" from a satisfied customer reinforces the overall positive experience. However, the critical review concerning check-in communication, site sizing ("small" and "sharing it!?"), the need to "shift RVs," and the "steep" driveway angle upon exit provides crucial objective information. This transparency, while highlighting areas for improvement, also helps set realistic expectations for future visitors, allowing them to prepare for potential logistical challenges. Despite these challenges, the overriding factor, as stated by the critical reviewer, is that the location is "The only saving grace" and "they are close to Yosemite Park." This emphasizes that for many, the convenience to Yosemite outweighs other considerations. Therefore, the park's promotional strategy would wisely lean into its strategic location, while acknowledging and potentially addressing the logistical feedback to improve the overall guest experience, ensuring that guests arrive well-informed and prepared for their stay near Yosemite.

Indian Flat RV Park Reviews
We camped here for 3 nights in March. With it being a quieter time of the season, we did not experience any issues with noisy neighbours or cars and instead found the campsite a very peaceful place to have dinner and rest after long days in Yosemite. Our stay was very comfortable, the only issue we had was that it was a bit difficult washing dishes with only cold water, but was not a train smash. Great camping spot and atmosphere!
Apr 03, 2025 · Chantelle RossouwWorst RV park we’ve experienced! When we checked in they said nothing about our spot. We proceeded to unhook our trailer, level it…. Once we’re completely set up another RV pulls up and asks us to move forward so they will fit! (When we set up we thought, “wow-this is small!”) Now we’re sharing it!? No problem, of course we hook up and move so our neighbor can fit then unhook and set up again. Now we have to find a place for our car- that wasn’t clear either. The office really should tell you these things WHILE checking in. Apparently this happens all the time; people are always having to shift RVs to make space. Finally, when pulling out of the park, the angle out of the driveway was so steep our small trailer scrapped on the road. The only saving grace was that they are close to Yosemite Park.
Apr 23, 2025 · Denise DunlapOne star because I think it’s really shady to charge a fee when you’re providing no service in exchange. Generally I would avoid a park that does it but if you’re looking to stay near Yosemite in the off season your options are limited so I guess this park takes advantage of that. Also, I find it funny that because of their “automated optimization system” they can’t guarantee the site you chose but somehow they’re able to do it if you pay more money. Be guaranteed you’re going to get the least desirable spot in the park if you don’t pay, regardless of capacity. We’ve traveled all throughout the west visiting our National Parks, staying in various RV parks, resorts, state/county campgrounds and we’ve been charged a pet fee only one time. They had an amazing large dog park that they kept clean and multiple convenient waste pick up stations. Didn’t mind paying that fee at all. Not to mention it was cheaper than what this park charged.I double checked with the front desk that the fee was supposed to apply to us since they also have cabins and tents that they rent out. If we stayed in one of those, the fee makes sense. But she assured me that it’s just an “in general” pet fee. So if my dogs are confined in my own RV, and we’re asked to clean up after them… we’re getting charged for our dogs just existing? They also don’t clean up poop after previous inconsiderate pet owners because there was a fresh pile in our spot when we pulled up (I’d like to note there’s a 4 hour gap between check in and out). It’s a shame because despite those things that really don’t sit well with me from a business perspective, I’d give the park 5 stars. Prime location, indoor pool access from the lodge next door, convenient restaurants and store within walking distance, clean (but cold) bathrooms, and yeah the showers had low water pressure but small things like that don’t bother us. If you don’t have pets and have an easily maneuverable rig, or if you’re rich and don’t care about paying the two superfluous fees then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this RV park.
Jan 22, 2025 · K HAfter reading the reviews and having my own experience with this place, the takeaway is this: Book during shoulder season, bring earplugs, and you’ll have a great stay. It’s actually pretty great if you can’t get a campsite in the park. Is the road noise loud? Yeah. Are the bathrooms dirty? Not at all, they were kept absolutely spotless. I think the reason for the reviews that said dirty bathrooms was probably because there were only two guys who were doing janitorial and maintenance and that’s a lot to keep up with during peak season. The bathrooms are definitely dated, but they are clean. Also, do not sleep on the outdoor showers. The water pressure and temperature were *amazing*, and at night they’re illuminated by warm lamplight which makes it super peaceful and relaxing. All in all, as long as you aren’t booking this place during peak season, this is a great little Yosemite gem.
Oct 28, 2024 · Naomi JellumStayed here primarily to enjoy a hot shower, paid $62 for our site and the shower was such low pressure I wasn't able to completely wash the shampoo out of my hair. Shower itself was not clean, dirt on the floor, nowhere to put your stuff down, and halfway through the lights just turned off so I was showering in the dark (couldn't turn them back on again so assuming some random overload power trip). Not ideal when it's nearly 0 deg C. Was not worth the money, a cheaper national parks site would have been better value.
