Lazy Dog Camp Resort & Pay Lake Introduce
Welcome to Lazy Dog Camp Resort & Pay Lake, located at 1564 McGiffins Rd, Jackson, OH 45640, USA. For local residents and visitors in Jackson County and the surrounding areas searching for "camping near me" that combines camping with the unique feature of a pay lake for fishing, Lazy Dog Camp Resort & Pay Lake presents a destination with varied feedback from its customers. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the environment, services, and features based on the available reviews, allowing potential visitors to make an informed decision.
Environment: A Mix of Natural Appeal and Areas Needing Improvement
One positive review mentions that the "spot was great," suggesting that at least some areas of the campground offer an appealing natural setting for camping. The presence of a "pay lake" indicates a significant water feature that serves as a focal point for fishing activities. This could provide a scenic backdrop for campers and an accessible location for those interested in angling. The reviewer who wished they had more time to stay implies that the overall environment had some positive aspects that warranted a longer visit.
However, another review presents a contrasting perspective, describing issues such as "a lot of pot holes," which could affect the accessibility and overall aesthetic of the campground roads and pathways. This suggests that the infrastructure might be in need of maintenance in certain areas. The negative review also mentions "smells like pee In the cabins," indicating potential hygiene concerns within the cabin accommodations. If accurate, this could significantly detract from the comfort and enjoyment of guests staying in cabins.
The condition of the restrooms is also a point of concern, with one reviewer describing them as "nasty" and mentioning "bad plumbing." The cleanliness and functionality of restroom facilities are crucial for a positive camping experience, and these comments suggest potential shortcomings in this area. Therefore, while some spots may be appealing, potential visitors should be aware of the reported maintenance and cleanliness issues in other parts of the resort.
Services and Amenities: Varied Experiences Reported
The services and amenities at Lazy Dog Camp Resort & Pay Lake seem to have elicited mixed reactions from visitors. On the positive side, one reviewer praised the "great" managers and the "super nice" lady in the office, highlighting positive interactions with some of the staff. The availability of a pay lake for fishing is a key amenity, offering a dedicated area for anglers to fish for a fee.
The pay lake operates on a system where a $21 fee allows fishing for 12 hours on a catch and release basis. An interesting feature is that this fee automatically enters the angler into a competition with the eligibility to win "substantial cash prizes." This unique aspect could be a significant draw for those who enjoy competitive fishing.
However, the same reviewer noted a potential drawback: the lack of a discount on fishing for campers. This suggests that fishing at the pay lake is treated as a separate activity with its own fee structure, regardless of whether the visitor is also camping at the resort.
The negative review raises serious concerns about other services and amenities. The mention of "bed bugs" in the cabins points to a significant issue that can severely impact the comfort and health of guests. Poor plumbing in the restrooms, as mentioned, would also detract from the overall experience. Furthermore, the reviewer describes the individuals "that take care of this place" (excluding the office lady) as "rude" and complaining about "any little thing," indicating potential issues with customer service from some staff members.
Given these conflicting reports, it is difficult to provide a definitive overview of the services. While some aspects, like the fishing competition and the helpfulness of the office staff, are positive, the reported issues with cabin cleanliness, restroom conditions, and staff rudeness are significant concerns that potential visitors should consider.
Features: Fishing Competition as a Unique Draw
The most distinctive feature of Lazy Dog Camp Resort & Pay Lake is its pay lake that includes an automatic entry into a fishing competition for those who pay the $21 fishing fee. The chance to win "substantial cash prizes" adds an element of excitement and potential reward to the fishing experience, making it more than just a casual angling opportunity. This feature is likely a key attraction for those specifically interested in competitive fishing.
Beyond the pay lake, the campground likely offers standard camping features such as campsites for tents and RVs, and possibly cabin rentals. However, the quality and condition of these features appear to be areas of concern based on the negative review, particularly regarding the cabins and restrooms.
While one positive review mentioned the spot being "great," implying well-maintained camping areas, the lack of specific details about other features like recreational areas, trails, or specific amenities makes it challenging to provide a comprehensive overview. The presence of a pay lake as a central feature suggests that fishing is a primary activity offered at the resort.
Potential visitors should weigh the unique appeal of the fishing competition against the reported issues with the accommodations and facilities to determine if this campground meets their needs and expectations.
Promotional Information: Focus on the Fishing Competition
Based on the available information, the most prominent promotional aspect of Lazy Dog Camp Resort & Pay Lake is the fishing competition associated with the pay lake. The lure of "substantial cash prizes" is a clear incentive for anglers to pay the $21 fishing fee and try their luck. This competitive element could be a key marketing point for the resort, attracting both serious and casual fishermen who enjoy the chance to win rewards.
It is possible that the resort may offer specific promotions related to the fishing competitions, such as special events, increased prize amounts during certain times, or packages that combine fishing with camping. To obtain details about any such promotions, it would be best to contact the resort directly using the provided phone numbers.
Given the negative feedback regarding the cabins and restrooms, any responsible promotional material should ideally address these concerns or highlight any improvements that have been made. Potential visitors are encouraged to seek the most recent information and perhaps ask for details or assurances regarding the condition of the accommodations and facilities when making inquiries or reservations.
While the positive review mentioned a "good" price, this was in the context of a single night's stay and did not specify the cost of camping itself. Local users should inquire about the current camping rates and any potential discounts that might be available.

The positive aspects highlighted include the great managers, a good camping spot (in at least one instance), and the exciting fishing competition. However, potential visitors should also be aware of the serious concerns raised in another review regarding bed bugs, cabin odors, unclean restrooms with plumbing issues, and rude staff (excluding the office). Lazy Dog Camp Resort & Pay Lake Reviews
We found this place during a trip and only spent one night. We wish we had more time to stay here! The managers were great, the spot was great and the price was good. It was $21 to fish for 12 hours catch and release, but you are automatically entered in a competition to be eligible to win substantial cash prizes. It would be nice if they gave campers a bit of a discount on the fishing, but other than that, it's great!
Oct 20, 2024 · Carmen CurrierBed bugs, smells like pee In the cabins, restrooms are nasty not to mention bad plumbing, a lot of pot holes, people that take care of this place are rude! Complain about any little thing. The only good thing I can say about this place is the sweet lady up in the office!
Jul 22, 2024 · Jonathan CervantesOverall a wonderful stop. Very friendly staff and campers. Spaces were a little tight for our 43’ fifth wheel but we were put in a spot with plenty of room to maneuver. Nice views, pretty lake and plenty of fun for kids if needed. The price is excellent and we will definitely stay again.
Jul 26, 2023 · Kim OldhamMe and my husband would love to buy this place and have a family run business great potential. Just stopped by for a glance and he fell in love.
Oct 13, 2024 · Kassey NewlenEmployee seemed bothered by us, didn't make a good effort to help, didn't want to rent a camp site and told us that they couldn't let us stay in a tent even though we were in a truck with a camper and said that they didn't have a spot for a truck with a camper, we counted 12 empty spots, it might of been a nice camp ground and paylake, we will never know,
