Montgomery Camp Office

6836 Park Rd, Montgomery, IN 47558, USA

4.0
This campground seems primarily for those who have permanent camping lots. The lake is beautiful, but ONE DAY of fishing didn't yield any bites. I've heard fishing is great from a boat ... nice sized bluegill. Not many options for bank fishing without intruding on someone else's area. This park is a few minutes away from Boggs, so we fished there. They do have a fish cleaning station in this little park which is pretty decent. No bone crushers. You have to throw away the leftovers in the dumpster very nearby. This is a plus. The camp is located in the middle of town, and there are sites on both sides of the road. When we got up in the morning we were able to watch the morning commuters ... including the horse and buggies of the Amish. There are a lot of trees in the main camping area (where you see the pictures online), and it is very pretty. Those are permanent sites which are primarily for people who rent year round. The pictures are a bit misleading. If you are looking for a weekend place to camp, you won't likely get near the lake unless there is an open spot. Call ahead for space availability. The owners are very nice and easy to work with. Super nice. The two reasons I give it only three stars is because the hydrant didn't just leak. It spewed. The owners are aware, and it is on the to do list. We turned off the water when we weren't there and also when we were not using the water because the water got everywhere. We left a night early ... for which I dock 1 star. The water was fixed just prior to leaving, but we were already prepared to go. It was mentioned the day before and got fixed a day laterThe other star is because there are no pictures of the site we got ... Our campsite faced the road. To the west is an unnamed building that looks like a church with a parking lot. To the East is a soybean field. Of course there is a camper on the south side behind us. Most of these sites are permanent sites as well. But the owners were very, very nice on this. We were actually lucky to get this site. It just turned out this isn't what we were looking for, but that is not their fault. There is another site on the same side of the street with lots of trees, and that area is more shaded. There are no trails, but I didn't see any advertised. Not misleading on this. There are plenty of places to walk inside the camp.Pricing is great for what you get. Full hook up is really nice. There are restaurants and an ice-cream (fabulous ice-cream) shop within a bike ride distance. Shopping (food) is not far away. Amish touristy stuff is nearby (restaurant, bakery, stuff). If you are a towny person, you'd like it very much if you could get a spot to get away. If you are an outdoorsy person, go to Boggs. It's not that far. I caught 10 nice bluegill in the Red Fox area in under an hour ...The camp is clean and worth what you pay. We won't be back because it isn't what we are looking for, not because of the camp itself. - J R Macy

Montgomery Camp Office Introduce

Looking for "camping near me" in the Montgomery, Indiana area? Montgomery Camp Office, located at 6836 Park Rd, Montgomery, IN 47558, USA, and reachable at (812) 486-3255 or +1 812-486-3255, offers a unique camping experience primarily catering to long-term and permanent campers, but with potential availability for weekend visitors. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground provides a clean environment, friendly owners, and convenient access to local amenities and attractions.

The environment at Montgomery Camp Office is described as having a beautiful lake, which is a significant draw for many campers. While one visitor's single day of fishing from the bank didn't yield any bites, they noted that fishing is reportedly great from a boat, with nice-sized bluegill being caught. For those interested in bank fishing, options might be somewhat limited without potentially encroaching on permanent residents' areas. However, the presence of a "pretty decent" fish cleaning station with a nearby dumpster for disposal of leftovers is a notable plus for anglers.

The campground's location within the town of Montgomery offers a unique blend of rural and small-town experiences. Situated on both sides of the road, campers in the morning can observe the local commuters, including the distinctive horse and buggies of the Amish community, providing a glimpse into the local culture. The main camping area, often featured in online pictures, boasts a lot of trees and is described as very pretty, offering a shaded and pleasant environment. However, it's important to note that these picturesque, tree-filled sites are primarily occupied by permanent, year-round renters. Weekend campers may find availability in other areas of the campground.

The owners of Montgomery Camp Office consistently receive high praise for their friendliness and ease to work with. Guests have described them as "very nice" and "super nice," which contributes significantly to a positive camping experience. Their welcoming nature and helpfulness are frequently mentioned in the reviews, indicating a commitment to guest satisfaction.

In terms of services and features, Montgomery Camp Office offers full hookups at its campsites, which is a significant advantage for RV campers seeking water, electricity, and sewer connections. This amenity is noted as being "really nice" and adds to the overall value of the camping experience. The campground is also reported to be clean and well-maintained, contributing to a comfortable stay.

While there are no dedicated trails within the campground itself, guests have mentioned that there are plenty of places to walk within the camp. This allows for leisurely strolls and opportunities to enjoy the outdoor environment. For those seeking more extensive hiking or outdoor activities, nearby Boggs (presumably Boggs Lake State Nature Preserve) is recommended as an alternative, being just a short drive away and reportedly offering excellent bluegill fishing.

One of the drawbacks mentioned by a visitor was an issue with a leaky water hydrant at their site. While the owners were aware of the problem and had it on their "to do list," it resulted in the guest having to turn off the water when not in use and ultimately led to an early departure. However, it was noted that the water issue was fixed just prior to their leaving, indicating that the owners do address maintenance concerns, albeit sometimes with a delay.

Another point of feedback was the lack of pictures of the specific campsite allocated to one guest. Their site faced the road, with a building resembling a church and a soybean field as neighboring views, unlike the more scenic, tree-filled areas shown in online photos. It was clarified that many of the sites, including the one they received, are permanent sites. While the owners were accommodating in providing a site when availability was limited, this highlights the potential difference between the online representation and the experience for short-term visitors. Calling ahead for specific information about available sites is strongly recommended.

Despite these drawbacks, Montgomery Camp Office offers several conveniences due to its location within town. Restaurants and a "fabulous" ice cream shop are within biking distance, providing easy access to dining and treats. Grocery shopping and Amish tourist attractions, including restaurants, bakeries, and shops, are also located nearby, offering opportunities to explore the local culture and amenities.

The pricing at Montgomery Camp Office is described as "great for what you get," especially considering the availability of full hookups. This makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers seeking essential amenities. The overall consensus from the reviews is that the camp is clean and worth the price.

In summary, Montgomery Camp Office offers a local camping option in a unique setting within the town of Montgomery, Indiana. While primarily geared towards permanent residents, it does offer sites for short-term visitors, particularly RVers who appreciate full hookups. The campground boasts a beautiful lake, friendly owners, and convenient access to local restaurants, shops, and Amish attractions. However, potential weekend campers should be aware that the most scenic, tree-filled areas are typically occupied by long-term residents, and the specific site allocated may vary. Calling ahead for space availability and details about the campsite is highly recommended. For those primarily seeking extensive hiking or a more traditional "outdoorsy" experience, nearby Boggs Lake State Nature Preserve is suggested as an alternative. Nevertheless, for a convenient and community-oriented camping experience with access to local amenities, Montgomery Camp Office is worth considering.
