South Park Campground Introduce
For those searching for "camping near me" with a preference for space and a more independent camping style, South Park Campground in Lincoln, AL 35096, USA, presents an interesting option, particularly known for its appeal during the Talladega NASCAR races. Located in Lincoln, Alabama, this campground offers a unique experience with both paid and apparently expansive free camping areas. Based on the available customer reviews, South Park Campground provides a blend of natural camping environments and essential facilities, making it a noteworthy consideration for local users, especially those attending events at the Talladega Superspeedway.
One of the most significant features of South Park Campground, as highlighted by a long-time attendee of the spring Talladega NASCAR race, is the abundance of free space available for camping groups. This is a major draw for those who prefer more room and the flexibility to set up their camp as they see fit. The reviewer, a 30-year veteran of camping for the event, explicitly recommends South Park Campground for this reason. This suggests that the "free" section of the campground is quite large and can accommodate sizable groups with ample space to spread out.
In terms of facilities, South Park Campground offers essential amenities to support campers. There are porta potties strategically located throughout the free camping area, providing convenient restroom access. Additionally, the campground features two bath houses, which include more permanent restroom facilities and showers. One reviewer noted that the shower house had a good number of bathrooms, although it tended to get crowded in the mornings around 7 AM. This indicates that while the facilities are available, users might experience peak times of usage. The same reviewer also mentioned that the shower pressure could be improved, but overall, the facilities were clean, which is a significant positive aspect for any campground.
The environment of South Park Campground is described as including a nice creek where campers can set up their sites, as well as plenty of wooded areas for those who prefer a more shaded and natural camping experience. Camping by a creek can offer a pleasant and scenic backdrop, along with the soothing sounds of flowing water. The availability of wooded areas caters to those seeking shade and a more traditional camping feel, surrounded by trees and nature. This variety in the camping environment allows visitors to choose a setting that best suits their preferences.
Security at South Park Campground is also mentioned, with a reviewer noting that the area is well-patrolled, albeit in a "loose kind of fashion." This suggests a level of oversight to ensure safety and order within the campground without being overly intrusive. For large events like the NASCAR races, having a degree of security presence can be reassuring for campers.
Interestingly, the reviews indicate that South Park Campground has both a free section and a paid section. The long-time NASCAR attendee specifically mentions their preference for the free camping option, highlighting the appeal of the ample space. Another reviewer mentioned reserving a spot, implying they utilized the paid section, which likely offers designated sites and potentially additional amenities. The fact that reservations are accepted suggests a more structured camping experience in the paid area, possibly with hookups or other conveniences not available in the free section. Unfortunately, the specifics of the paid section are not detailed in the provided reviews.
A unique and positive aspect of the camping experience at South Park Campground, as shared by one visitor, was the presence of a church group that provided breakfast, lunch, and supper for most of the weekend. This unexpected hospitality allowed campers to meet new people and even participate in a raffle. This kind of community interaction can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, fostering a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. While this might not be a regular feature, it highlights the potential for positive social interactions at the campground, especially during large events.
In summary, South Park Campground in Lincoln, AL, offers a diverse camping experience, particularly popular among those attending the Talladega NASCAR races. Its key features include:
- Ample free camping space, ideal for large groups.
- Designated paid camping section with reservations available.
- A nice creek for camping alongside.
- Plenty of wooded areas for a more natural setting.
- Essential facilities including porta potties and two bath houses with restrooms and showers.
- A generally clean environment, although shower pressure could be better.
- A loosely patrolled area for security.
- Potential for community interaction, as experienced with a church group providing meals during one stay.
Promotional information is not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. To inquire about rates for the paid section, availability, reservations, or any special offers, it would be necessary to contact South Park Campground directly. Unfortunately, a phone number or website is not provided in the given information. Local users might be able to find contact details through online searches or local camping directories. Given its popularity during the Talladega races, it is advisable to book well in advance if planning to camp during such events.
For local users seeking "camping near me" that offers a range of options from spacious free camping to potentially more structured paid sites, South Park Campground is worth considering. The positive feedback regarding the ample space, the natural environment with the creek and woods, and the essential facilities make it an attractive choice, especially for those who value a more independent camping experience or are attending events at the nearby Talladega Superspeedway. While some aspects like shower pressure and potential crowding during peak times are noted, the overall sentiment from reviewers suggests a positive and even "awesome" camping experience, particularly for those who appreciate the freedom and space offered.

South Park Campground Reviews
As a 30 years in a row veteran of doing the spring talladega nascar race, I can very honestly say this is the place to be if you want all the FREE space you want to take for your camping group. There are porta potties spread around, 2 bath houses, and it's well patrolled, in a loose kind of fashion. There's a nice creek to camp by, and plenty of wooded areas to camp. There is a paid section to the park also, but im more of a free kind of camper!!
Apr 26, 2025 · Tony RobinsonWe reserved a spot here and loved it!! We got in at 4am from Tampa and someone was already at the gate so we were able to get to our spot and powernap before the fun weekend started! The shower house also had a bunch of bathrooms, I'm glad I'm an evening bathroom/shower guy cuz every morning by 7 it was packed! The showers could use better pressure but the facilities were clean and the location of this camp was the best!!We also found a church group there who made breakfast, lunch and supper most the weekend where we met nice folks and won a raffle!I did not expect it to be soo awesome but it really really was!!
Apr 29, 2023 · Nick NutterThere is a paid area which offers nicely groomed an labeled grass lots and a free area were you can set up wherever you like. We stayed in the free area, arrived early set up a large area and this was perfect for our large group.Portable washrooms are available for rent at a reasonable rate and firewood and I've deliveries are made daily for a fee.Washrooms and showers are close by but get there early morning or late afternoon when it's not busy to get hot water.
