Imagine waking up to the gentle lapping of water and enjoying stunning views right from your campsite. As one visitor noted, Site 12 offers approximately 40 feet of lakefront, providing an intimate connection with the water. The presence of motorized boats suggests the lake is suitable for various water activities. While specific details about hiking trails within the immediate campground are limited, the natural beauty of the area surrounding Anaconda likely offers opportunities for exploration beyond the campground itself.
Services and Amenities: Back to Basics
It's important for local campers to be aware that Stuart Mill Bay Campground emphasizes a more rustic camping experience. Based on recent visitor feedback, the campground provides vault toilets for sanitation. However, essential amenities such as sinks, water spigots, and garbage disposal services are not readily available within the campground. Therefore, campers should come prepared with their own water supply, plan for waste management by packing out all trash, and bring necessary toiletries and sanitation supplies.
For those planning to enjoy campfires, it's crucial to bring your own firewood as it is not sold on-site. Each campsite is equipped with a fire pit, allowing for cozy evenings under the Montana sky, provided you have your own wood. Additionally, the presence of parking spots at individual sites, such as the two available at Site 12, makes it convenient for car camping and those with smaller trailers or recreational vehicles.
Features: A Fisherman's Paradise
Stuart Mill Bay Campground appears to be particularly attractive to fishing enthusiasts. Multiple observations of fish jumping and flopping in the lake indicate a healthy fish population. Whether you enjoy casting from the shore or taking a boat out on the water, the lake at Stuart Mill Bay Campground offers promising fishing opportunities. As one reviewer enthusiastically stated, "This campground is for fishing enthusiasts." It's worth noting that a Montana state fishing license may qualify you for a reduced nightly camping rate.
While the focus seems to be on lakeside activities, particularly fishing, the easy access to campsites and the ability to accommodate campers suggest it's also suitable for those simply seeking a relaxing outdoor getaway. The reviewer who mentioned "real nice spots here that are easy to access and easy to get your camper in" highlights the campground's convenience for various types of camping setups.
Important Considerations: Bear Safety and Preparedness
Given the location in Montana, it's essential for campers to be aware of the local wildlife. The presence of signs warning about bears indicates that this is bear country. Local users should familiarize themselves with bear safety guidelines, including proper food storage and disposal techniques, to ensure a safe and enjoyable camping experience. Carrying bear spray is also highly recommended.

Stuart Mill Bay Campground Reviews
Enjoyed car camping at site 12 which has about 40' of lake front, 2 parking spots, and is very close to the vault toilet. There are no sinks, no water spigots, and no garbages anywhere that I saw at this campground. Bring your own wood if you want a fire in your fire pit, there aren't any bundles for sale here. Also, there are signs warning you about bears. I don't fish but for those that do, I saw a fish jump 2ft up out of the lake and heard more fish flopping out in the water. There was a motorized boat on the water. This campground is for fishing enthusiasts I couldn't find any hiking trails. $18/night. The nightly rate is less for those who have a MT state fishing license and even less if you are 62 or over.

Sep 26, 2024 · Michael AndersonPart of the lake was frozen so we walked on it. Beautiful scenery, nobody was fishing there at the time.
Dec 22, 2021 · LimitlessWhat a great little gem of a campground. Found a site right on the water. The camp spaces are large and well spaced. First come first serve. Pit toilets. I stopped for one night and ended up staying for 3. I will go back.
