I am a member ervof Thousand Trails and so glad I bought one 3 years ago. This campground is... ummmm... well. It needs some updating and attention. Showers in C section (where I was) was being renovated (3 more months). Why am I using the showers you ask? There are no sewer hook ups and only 30amp power. Had I realized this, I may have stayed elsewhere.Staff was nice. Wish the bathrooms were cleaned daily. Don't get me started on the laundry facilities, we went in town instead. We liked the cloverdale community.Would we come back... doubtful. We did make a youtube video on Coolest Life. - Anthony McCool

Thousand Trails Russian River Introduce

Thousand Trails Russian River, located at 33655 Geysers Rd, Cloverdale, CA 95425, USA, offers a distinct camping experience within the beautiful Northern California wine country. As a part of the "Camping Near Me" category, this campground provides a unique blend of natural beauty and a rustic, community-oriented atmosphere, primarily catering to RV enthusiasts and tent campers. You can reach them by phone at (707) 894-3184 or mobile at +1 707-894-3184.

Environment: Nestled in Nature's Embrace

The campground is beautifully situated on the banks of the Russian River, surrounded by the picturesque natural beauty of Northern California's wine country. This setting offers a serene backdrop for outdoor activities, with abundant opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, rafting, and trout fishing directly on the river. The area is particularly pretty in the springtime, with lush greenery and scenic views. Many sites are shaded by mature trees, providing a comfortable environment even on warmer days. The presence of wildlife, such as coveys of quail running around, adds to the natural charm and immersive experience. However, visitors should be aware that poison ivy is present in the area, so it's advisable to stay on designated paths, especially with pets. While the river frontage is a significant draw, some reviews suggest that the river may be small and murky in certain seasons, and not always ideal for extensive fishing beyond common species like suckers. The overall ambiance is one of natural tranquility, offering a break from urban hustle and bustle, though some areas of the park may show signs of age and wear.

Services and Amenities: Balancing Rustic Charm with Essential Needs

Thousand Trails Russian River provides a range of services and amenities, though it's important for prospective campers to note that some aspects reflect a more rustic or older campground experience. The park offers 125 sites, including both RV and tenting options, with 117 sites providing water and 30-amp electric hookups. Crucially, there are no sewer hookups at individual sites; however, a central dump station is available for guests to utilize. Mobile sewer service (honey wagon) is also provided on Tuesdays and Fridays for a fee. The campground features restrooms and showers, although recent reviews indicate that these facilities, particularly in the C section, have been undergoing renovations or have been noted as needing updating and more consistent cleaning. Some visitors have mentioned issues with broken laundry facilities, leading them to seek services in town. WiFi is generally available at the lodge/clubhouse area but is not widespread across the campground, and cell service can be dismal, which might be a consideration for those needing connectivity. Other amenities include picnic tables, fire pits (though wood fires may be restricted, and propane fires are generally permitted), a playground for children, LP gas sales, and a camp store. Pet-friendly policies are in place, but dogs must be kept on a leash outdoors, and cleanup after pets is strictly enforced. There is no dedicated dog park mentioned in reviews. The staff is frequently praised for being nice, friendly, and helpful, often visible cleaning up and assisting campers.

Features: Unique Aspects of the Russian River Experience

A significant feature of Thousand Trails Russian River is its direct access to the Russian River itself, offering opportunities for water-based recreation such as kayaking, canoeing, rafting, and fishing. The proximity to Northern California's renowned wine country is another major draw, with local wineries just minutes away, providing excellent opportunities for wine tasting. Beyond the immediate campground, nearby attractions include Lake Sonoma, the fish hatchery, "the Geysers," the Petrified Forest, and the Safari West animal preserve, as well as ocean beaches and majestic redwood forests within a reasonable driving distance. For those seeking indoor entertainment, local casinos are also accessible. The park's layout can be challenging for larger RVs (30 feet plus), with reports of difficulty navigating steep driveways and scraping tree branches or bottoming out. Pull-through spots have been described as worse than back-in sites, and sites are assigned, meaning campers cannot reserve specific spots. While some sites are spacious, others are noted as being quite tight and close together, potentially making it difficult to get out of an RV without stepping downhill from the pad. Despite these navigational challenges, the quiet atmosphere and friendly nature of other campers are often highlighted as positive aspects.

Promotional Information and Visitor Experience

Thousand Trails Russian River leverages its membership model, offering advantages to Thousand Trails members who can stay at no additional charge as part of their membership benefits. Promotional efforts often highlight the beautiful natural setting and the array of nearby attractions, particularly the wine country. Recent improvements have been noted at various Thousand Trails properties, which may include new flooring, updated furniture, contemporary light fixtures in common areas, renovated pool areas, and updated sports courts like pickleball and basketball. While these upgrades are part of the broader Thousand Trails network, specific improvements at the Russian River location, especially regarding showers and laundry, are actively underway or have been recently completed, as indicated by guest feedback. Special offers, such as discounts on daily rates for RV sites and rentals, are frequently available for both members and non-members, including military and first responders. Many visitors appreciate the opportunity to connect with nature and the friendly staff. However, transparency regarding the lack of sewer hookups at sites and the condition of older facilities is crucial for managing visitor expectations. Despite some noted inconveniences, such as occasional issues with facility maintenance or the challenges of navigating the park with larger rigs, many reviews indicate that for those seeking a rustic, nature-focused experience in a beautiful area, Thousand Trails Russian River can be a solid choice. The overall value for members is often emphasized, allowing for frequent and cost-effective visits to enjoy the scenic surroundings and local community of Cloverdale.
