Valley View 1 Campground Introduce
For those in search of "Camping Near Me" that offers a remarkable blend of natural beauty, privacy, and essential amenities, Valley View 1 Campground, located at Valley View 1, View Valley Road, Gilroy, CA 95020, USA, stands out as a highly desirable destination. Situated within the expansive and beloved Mt. Madonna County Park, Valley View 1 is particularly well-regarded for its stunning redwood forest environment and its provision of services tailored for a comfortable camping experience, especially for RV and pop-up camper owners.
Valley View 1 Campground is nestled deep within the majestic redwood forests of Mt. Madonna County Park, part of the Santa Cruz Mountain Range. The environment here is a primary draw, characterized by towering redwood trees that create a naturally shaded and secluded atmosphere. A recent visitor in August 2024 noted, "The Redwoods are gorgeous and the campsite felt very private. There was literally no sunlight reaching our specific camp site but we really loved that!" This preference for deep shade highlights the appeal of a cool, serene, and intimate setting, offering a refreshing escape from the sun. The natural sounds of the forest, including rustling leaves and potential wildlife, contribute to the tranquil ambiance. The elevation of Mt. Madonna Park also means that the air is often cooler than in the surrounding valleys, providing a pleasant climate for outdoor activities even during warmer months. The overall "beauty" of the campground is consistently praised, affirming its aesthetic appeal.
In terms of services, Valley View 1 Campground is exceptionally well-equipped, particularly for RV and pop-up camper users. It offers "hook ups," which specifically include "water and power (no sewer) RV sites." This provision of essential utilities is a significant convenience, allowing campers to power their appliances and have readily available water without needing to rely solely on their internal tanks. The park also provides a "dump station on site that is included with stay," which is crucial for RVs without sewer hookups, allowing for proper waste disposal before departure. Beyond RV-specific amenities, the campground boasts "clean toilets," a consistent point of praise across Mt. Madonna Park's campgrounds. While not explicitly mentioned for Valley View 1 in the provided reviews, other sections of Mt. Madonna Park are known to offer "hot showers," and it is highly probable that these facilities are either directly available at Valley View 1 or easily accessible nearby. Each campsite typically includes a picnic table, a barbecue pit, and a food locker, ensuring campers have the basic infrastructure for comfortable living and secure food storage.
The features of Valley View 1 Campground are what make it a favorite for many. Its "super accessible from Bay Area" location makes it an ideal weekend getaway for residents of the broader San Francisco Bay Area, minimizing travel time and maximizing relaxation. The "long and wide parking spot" is a practical feature that greatly benefits those with RVs, pop-up campers, or multiple vehicles, ensuring ample space and ease of parking. The inherent "privacy" of the campsites, attributed to the dense redwood tree cover, is a significant draw for those seeking a more secluded and personal camping experience, rather than feeling exposed. One critical feature to note, however, is a reported issue with "site 149 power went out on our friends MULTIPLE times, Ranger said it common. Don't book this site if you need A/C, etc." This specific feedback is vital promotional information, advising prospective campers to be mindful of this particular site if reliable power is a necessity. The campground's overall atmosphere "feels like a State Park, rather than a County Park," suggesting a higher quality of maintenance, natural beauty, and recreational opportunities than typically expected from a county-managed facility. As part of Mt. Madonna Park, campers have access to an extensive network of hiking and equestrian trails, offering opportunities for exploration and connection with nature beyond their campsite.
Promotional information for Valley View 1 Campground, derived from glowing customer reviews, emphasizes its status as a "most fav campground!" for new visitors. The ease of access from the Bay Area, combined with spacious, private sites and essential hookups, forms a strong promotional message for RV and pop-up camper owners. The "gorgeous Redwoods" and the deep shade they provide are major selling points for nature lovers seeking a cool and tranquil retreat. The inclusion of a dump station and clean restrooms further enhances its appeal. While the power issue at site 149 is a direct caution, it also serves as a testament to the transparency of information shared by park staff and experienced campers. For those looking for "Camping Near Me" that offers a balance of primitive natural beauty and modern conveniences, Valley View 1 stands out. Its suitability for various camping styles, from tent camping to RVs, and its overall high standard of maintenance contribute to its positive reputation. The park's commitment to providing a clean and enjoyable experience, even amidst some reported issues, makes it a consistently strong choice for outdoor enthusiasts.
When planning a visit to Valley View 1 Campground, it is highly recommended to make reservations in advance, especially for RV sites with hookups, as these are typically in high demand. Campers should also be prepared for cooler temperatures, particularly at night, due to the dense tree cover and mountain elevation. While the park is generally well-maintained, being prepared for potential minor issues (like the reported power intermittent at site 149) and bringing appropriate gear for a comfortable stay is always advisable. Adherence to park rules, including quiet hours and fire restrictions, ensures a pleasant experience for all. Valley View 1 Campground offers a truly remarkable camping experience in the heart of California's redwood country, providing a private and amenity-rich base for exploring Mt. Madonna Park's natural wonders.

Visited it for the first time in Aug 2024 with our new pop up camper and it is already one of my most fav campgrounds! Super accessible from Bay area, long and wide parking spot, hook ups, and clean toilets. The Redwoods are gorgeous and the campsite felt very private. There was literally no sunlight reaching our specific camp site but we really loved that!
Aug 13, 2024 · Aditya MaratheGreat campground that feels like a State Park, rather than a County Park. They have a few RV sites with water and power (no sewer) but they do have a dump station on site that is included with stay! BEWARE site 149 power went out on our friends MULTIPLE times, Ranger said it common. Don't book this site if you need A/C, etc.
Sep 04, 2024 · Adam NelmsValley view 100 series sites have the host nearby and are the shortest drive from the entrance as well as are the shortest distance to the (6) showers (locked at night). 100 series sites seemed the most crowded / populated of the loops whereas the other seemed to have the more unoccupied sites. Restrooms were clean. Limited to no cell service. Pet friendly on leash. Mostly quiet but for late arrivals and double selling of camp sites by mistake.Areas for improvement:1) have a host at each loop2) don't allow late arrivals after 8 or 8:30 by locking the main gates (need to give them enough time to set up before quiet hours3) need a white board (like other parks) which clearly show sites which have not been rented or update their computer system so conflicts don't happen4) add more showers please or keep them open longer (earlier and later)
Jul 22, 2023 · Redacted RedactedIt was a fun experience staying in a yurt to go glamping for the first time. We are tent campers but wanted a different kind of experience. We booked back in January and the spaces were mostly filled. This weekend, a freeze warning and storm occurred from Friday night (our first night) so there was no power at the entire campground. There were several empty spaces. You can tell people did not show up due to the storms since they had their slips on the post in front of the camping spots. We were prepared and had our own lantern, headlamps, and lots of layers for our 2-night stay. We did get to enjoy one full day of cloudy/sunny weather, cooking and eating at our campfire so it was worth it. The hikes around were nice to explore such as the Valley View overlook and just checking out the trails in general. The mossy trees are beautiful! There were a few people who made it despite the storm the night before. Note that the yurt does not allow or have any electrical outlets. Bring battery-operated blankets to warm up if you camp during the winter. Also bring your own lantern/headlamps. Other than that, they have good and clean facilities! We will be back to try glamping or camping in the summer and bring family.
Feb 26, 2023 · Trina MWe drove our R.V. up to the park for a quick get away. We stayed during the week. The R.V. sites are a good size and provided power and water. Dogs are welcomed but be on leash when outside. There are hiking trails and the park is beautiful in a redwood forest setting.
