Based on feedback from local users within the "camping near me" category, Camp Taylor Campground presents a mixed picture. Some visitors have lauded its natural charm and convenient access to outdoor activities, while others have expressed concerns about the facilities and management.
For those seeking an authentic outdoor experience, Camp Taylor's location is a significant draw. Situated in a picturesque area of Columbia, New Jersey, it offers direct access to a range of natural attractions. One long-time visitor enthusiastically describes it as a "beautiful rustic campground" that is "perfect for the outdoors experience." This camper highlights the abundance of opportunities for hiking, fishing, and mountain biking in the surrounding area. A notable feature is the direct trail access to the majestic Mt Tammany, a popular destination for hikers seeking stunning views of the Delaware Water Gap.
This positive review suggests that for individuals and families prioritizing immersion in nature and access to recreational activities, Camp Taylor Campground could be an appealing choice within the "camping near me" options. The opportunity to hike directly to Mt Tammany is a unique feature that caters to outdoor enthusiasts looking for adventure right from their campsite.
However, it's crucial to consider the less favorable experiences shared by other visitors. One review paints a starkly different picture, detailing significant disappointments with the campground's maintenance and the behavior of the owners. This visitor reported that the "facilities were poorly maintained," citing issues such as dirty bathrooms, barely functioning showers, and trash left at their campsite. Furthermore, the review expresses strong dissatisfaction with the owners' demeanor, describing them as "shockingly rude" and "condescending" when concerns were raised. This negative experience led the reviewer to conclude that Camp Taylor created a "tense and uncomfortable atmosphere" and would not be recommended, particularly to families or first-time campers.
Another concerning review highlights safety issues related to wildlife. This visitor reported the "frequent presence of bears wandering around the campground," including near their campsite, which caused considerable unease, especially as they had children with them. The review claims that there were no clear warnings or safety measures in place regarding bear encounters. When these concerns were brought to the attention of the owners, the reviewer alleges that they were met with rudeness and dismissal, with the owners blaming the guests instead of addressing the potential safety risks. This experience left the visitors feeling "unsafe" and "disrespected."
Considering these contrasting viewpoints is essential for local users browsing the "camping near me" category. While the natural surroundings and access to outdoor activities like hiking to Mt Tammany are undeniable assets of Camp Taylor Campground, potential visitors should be aware of the reported issues concerning facility maintenance, customer service, and wildlife safety protocols.
For those prioritizing well-maintained amenities and a high level of customer service, the negative reviews raise valid concerns that should be carefully considered. Similarly, families with young children or individuals who are not experienced campers may find the reported lack of clear warnings and safety measures regarding wildlife unsettling.
It is important to note that the positive review suggests that respectful campers who are primarily focused on the natural environment and outdoor activities might have a different experience. This long-term visitor believes that issues arise primarily from those who do not adhere to campground rules. This perspective suggests that the overall experience at Camp Taylor could be highly dependent on individual expectations and the behavior of fellow campers.
As a local user exploring "camping near me" options, it would be prudent to weigh these different perspectives. If a rustic, nature-focused experience with direct access to hiking, fishing, and mountain biking is your priority, and you are prepared for potentially basic amenities, Camp Taylor Campground's location near Mt Tammany could be appealing. However, the negative feedback regarding maintenance, customer service, and wildlife safety cannot be ignored and should factor into your decision-making process.
Prospective campers might consider contacting Camp Taylor Campground directly at the provided phone numbers to inquire about their current policies regarding facility maintenance, customer service protocols, and wildlife safety measures. Asking specific questions based on the concerns raised in the reviews could provide further clarity and help you determine if this campground aligns with your expectations for a "camping near me" experience.
Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to choose Camp Taylor Campground for your next outdoor adventure rests on your individual priorities and risk tolerance. By considering the diverse experiences shared by local users within the "camping near me" category, you can make a more informed choice that best suits your needs and ensures a memorable and enjoyable camping trip.

Camp Taylor Campground Reviews
It’s a beautiful rustic campground. Perfect for the outdoors experience. Plenty of hiking, fishing and mountain biking in the area. You can hike to Mt Tammany straight from the campground. I’ve been taking my family there for probably the past 15 years almost every year. The one star reviews reflect the bad apples that come to party hard and break rules. I’ve never had a I’ve never had an issue, not once. Trust me, You can have plenty of fun there as long as you’re respectful like you’re supposed to be.
Apr 04, 2025 · Thom O'HaraOur experience at Camp Taylor was extremely disappointing. The facilities were poorly maintained—bathrooms were dirty, showers barely worked, and our campsite had trash left behind from previous visitors. But what really ruined the trip was the behavior of the owners. They were shockingly rude, speaking to guests in a condescending and aggressive tone whenever concerns were brought up. Instead of addressing issues professionally, they acted like we were inconveniencing them just by asking simple questions. It created a tense and uncomfortable atmosphere for everyone. We came for a relaxing nature getaway and left feeling stressed and frustrated. I would not recommend Camp Taylor to anyone, especially families or first-time campers. There are plenty of other places that actually care about their guests. One of the most alarming parts of our stay at Camp Taylor was the frequent presence of bears wandering around the campground. We saw them multiple times near campsites, including ours, which was incredibly unsettling—especially since we had children with us. There were no clear warnings or proper safety measures in place. When we expressed our concerns, instead of addressing the issue, the owners actually yelled at us for not “knowing the rules.” They were rude and dismissive, blaming us instead of taking responsibility for guest safety. It was shocking and completely unprofessional. We didn’t feel safe or respected at all during our time there.
Apr 13, 2025 · Yuliya KovelmanChoose any other camp grounds. There’s no polite words to use for the staff and their unprofessional behavior. I was here for the Wolf preserve an hour early. I wanted to see the area. Camp grounds staff advised us that wolf preserve staff were not around and to leave now. I own and operate several business and wouldn’t treat paying customers like this regardless if it was their business or yours. Pulled into the parking lot to turn around for them to then follow me advising again the properties closed. So I drove up the block to go to a park and spend money else where until the staff arrive for the wolf tour.
Mar 22, 2025 · Alex MedinaOur experience at this campground was good. Some of the staff were a little grumpy but for the most part the place was a good fit for us. Sure they have a bunch of rules but you won't have a problem unless you're a rule breaker. We had a site semi-close to the showers/bathrooms but it was still a good walk. The showers were adequate and the water was hot. The site was roomy enough for 2 tents and 2 large cars. The CG had a trail to Worthington State Forest which made hiking easy from the site. Mt. Tammany and Sunfish Pond are in hiking distance but there is a steep trail out of the CG.
Dec 14, 2024 · Eminent UnoI am writing this review specifically to counter the negatives reviews left. I was a little nervous after booking because of them, but we had no issues with this campground. I believe i met the owner upon checkin along with a very nice woman and younger male. They were welcoming and gave us instructions about our campground. The campground is actually larger than I expected and had nice spacious shaded sites. During our entire stay here, we had no further interactions with the owner. We also didn’t see any bears. I would recommend this site and I believe if you simply follow the rules, you will have no issues.
