Babler State Park Campground Introduce
Looking for the perfect camping escape close to home? Nestled in the scenic landscapes of Wildwood, Missouri, Babler State Park Campground offers local users an idyllic retreat into nature. Situated at 18301 Rieger Rd, Wildwood, MO 63005, USA, this campground provides a wonderful opportunity to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life without venturing too far from the conveniences of the city, being relatively close to St. Louis.
As a featured option in the "camping near me" category, Babler State Park Campground stands out for its serene environment and welcoming atmosphere. Real campers rave about the feeling of being "miles from anything" while still enjoying proximity to urban amenities. This balance makes it an ideal choice for local residents seeking a quick weekend getaway or a longer, relaxing stay.
One of the highlights mentioned by visitors is the exceptional service provided by the camp hosts. Karen and her husband, along with Mike and his wife, are frequently commended for their helpfulness, friendliness, and extensive knowledge of the park and surrounding area. Their presence ensures a smooth and enjoyable camping experience for all guests.
For your comfort and convenience, the campground offers a bathhouse that also serves as a storm shelter, providing essential facilities and peace of mind during inclement weather. While the campsites currently offer electric hookups (50/30/20 amp power pedestals), it's important to note that they are not full hookups, meaning there is no direct water or sewer connection at each site. However, the campground provides a dump station for RVs and conveniently located water spigots throughout the camping areas, ensuring access to fresh water.
To further enhance your camping experience, Babler State Park Campground offers practical amenities such as ice and firewood for sale on-site. This eliminates the need to travel off-site for these essential camping supplies, adding to the convenience of your stay.
Planning your visit is crucial, especially if you're looking to camp on a weekend. According to visitor feedback, weekend campsites tend to book up quickly, highlighting the campground's popularity. However, weekday stays are generally more readily available, offering a quieter camping experience. The presence of park rangers and campground staff throughout the day ensures the safety and security of all campers.
For families with young children, a small playground is available within the campground, providing a space for kids to play and burn off some energy in a natural setting. Additionally, Babler State Park Campground is proudly dog-friendly, allowing you to bring your furry companions along to enjoy the outdoor adventure with you. The overall atmosphere is described as quiet and peaceful, making it an ideal destination for those seeking relaxation and tranquility in nature.
While the campground offers a sense of remoteness, its actual proximity to St. Louis is a significant advantage for local campers. The drive from the park entrance to the campground takes approximately five minutes when adhering to the speed limit, indicating the expansive nature of the park itself. Be aware that there are some small, steep hills leading into the campground from the main park area. While most vehicles can navigate these without issue, one visitor noted a slight challenge when starting from a complete stop on an incline, particularly when encountering wildlife crossing the road.
Regarding site reservations, one camper experienced the need to switch sites after the first night due to limited availability of consecutive nights on the same site. While this was a minor inconvenience for them, it's advisable to book your entire stay in advance if possible, or be prepared for the possibility of needing to move if staying for multiple nights, especially during peak seasons.
The cost of camping is also a factor to consider. One visitor reported paying different rates for two consecutive weekday nights, with one night incurring a website fee and the other not. It's recommended to clarify any potential fees during the booking process to ensure a clear understanding of the total cost of your stay.
The campground's bathhouse facilities are described as adequate, with a dated appearance but excellent functionality. Campers have specifically praised the amazing water pressure and the availability of endless warm water in the showers, a welcome feature after a day of outdoor activities.
Exciting developments are on the horizon for Babler State Park Campground. Visitors have observed signs of expansion, including trenches suggesting the installation of water and sewer pipes. This hints at the potential addition of full hookup campsites in the future, which would further enhance the campground's appeal and amenities for RV campers.
In summary, Babler State Park Campground offers local users a fantastic opportunity to immerse themselves in nature just a short drive from St. Louis. With its peaceful ambiance, helpful camp hosts, essential amenities like electric hookups, a dump station, water spigots, and the availability of ice and firewood, it provides a comfortable and convenient camping experience. The dog-friendly policy and playground add to its appeal for families and pet owners. While weekend bookings are highly recommended due to popularity, weekday stays offer a quieter retreat. Keep an eye out for potential future upgrades, including full hookup sites, which will undoubtedly make this already wonderful campground even more desirable. Plan your visit to Babler State Park Campground today and discover your local camping haven!

Babler State Park Campground Reviews
We love this park! We have been here over a week. You get the feeling of being miles from anything, but you are close to "civilization ". The camp host's have been very very helpful, very friendly, and a wealth of information & experience. (Karen & her husband, and Mike & his wife. There is a bathhouse/storm shelter. As of now the camp sites are not full hookups, just electric. They have a dump station & water spigots throughout the campgrounds. There is ice & firewood for sale. You have to book early the weekends book up fast, during the week not so much. The park ranger & campground staff are in the park throughout the day. There is a small playground. Dog friendly! This is a quiet & peaceful place to camp and relax.
Jun 01, 2023 · Harvey FarkwireIt feels remote but it's relatively close to St Louis. From the park entrance back to the campground it actually takes 5 minutes if you obey the speed limit. It's a big park! The little hills into the campground from the main park area are a little steep, but we managed fine except for the last day when we were leaving and had to stop halfway up for some deer to cross. It took a bit of engine revving to finish the hill climb from a dead stop on the hill.50/30/20 power pedestals at the sites. No water or sewer.Unfortunately we could only reserve 1 night in the same site. We found 2 sites across from each other (41 and 48) so we had to do a switcharoo the 2nd day. Not a big deal since the other campers were in a tent and left early. One night we paid $27, the other night was $34. Not sure why one night charged a website fee and the other one didn't since they were both weekdays. The showers were adequate. A bit dated, but the water pressure was amazing and it was endless warm water. It looks like they are expanding the campground, possibly with full hookup sites as we can see water and sewer pipe trenches dug.
Aug 18, 2024 · So WickesitedThis is a lovely park and where I stay anytime I'm in the area. There's 2 areas being rebuilt with full hookups. Going to be wonderful.
Oct 01, 2024 · Deb HeenBabler State Park is a good little campground that provides you with all the basics you need. It’s nothing too special, but it gets the job done. Everyone gets their own little space with an electricity hookup, picnic table, and small fire pit. There’s also a dumping station, playground, showers, and water fill up station. The campground is also quite pleasant and quiet with plenty of trees. If you’re looking for a basic campground near St. Louis, this is a good place to stay.
May 26, 2023 · FreniteBig beautiful concrete sites. Electric only! Clean shower house, dump site as you pull in and a beautiful park to explore. Full mature trees on most sites. Very peaceful and quiet. A hikers paradise.
