Blakley Hobbit Introduce
Looking for a unique and rustic "cabin rental near me" in the scenic Kickapoo Valley of Wisconsin? Blakley Hobbit, located at S5106 Elk Run Rd, Viola, WI 54664, USA, offers a distinctive lodging experience. You can reach the host at (608) 632-9091 or +1 608-632-9091 for inquiries and bookings. Based on recent customer reviews, this cabin provides a memorable stay with multiple beds, a mostly furnished kitchen, and access to outdoor activities. However, it's important for potential guests to be aware of certain quirks and to come prepared for a more rustic experience. This introduction aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the environment, services (or lack thereof), features, and important considerations based on the available feedback.
A Rustic Cabin Amidst the Scenic Kickapoo Valley: The Blakley Hobbit is described as a "rustic cabin," which immediately sets expectations for a more basic and nature-integrated lodging option. Situated in the Kickapoo Valley near Viola, Wisconsin, guests can anticipate being surrounded by the natural beauty of this region. The Kickapoo Valley is known for its rolling hills, winding rivers (including the Kickapoo River itself), forests, and unique cultural landscape shaped by Amish communities and organic farming. The cabin's location on Elk Run Rd, a gravel road with light traffic, suggests a relatively peaceful and rural setting, away from the hustle and bustle of major highways. The presence of a stream running along the cabin and mentions of fire pits and benches indicate opportunities to enjoy the outdoors right at the property. The overall environment promises to be scenic and tranquil, ideal for those looking to escape into nature.
Basic Amenities and Self-Sufficiency: The reviews provide insights into the amenities available at the Blakley Hobbit. The cabin itself offers "5 beds" upstairs (three queen, two twin), making it suitable for groups or families. The kitchen is "mostly furnished" with "tons of silverware, bowls, pots and pans," allowing guests to prepare their own meals. A black-and-white TV with some DVDs and a selection of board games and cards are provided for indoor entertainment. Parking is available in an open "garage" with a roof.
However, there are several important considerations regarding amenities. Guests are advised to bring their own cutting boards and cooking knives as the cabin only has small knives. Pantry storage might require using bins due to the presence of a mouse. The cabin does not have an indoor bathroom; instead, a "Port-a-pottie" is located outside, next to the parking area. Guests are advised to bring their own toilet paper and/or wet wipes as supplies might run out. Towels are not provided for the "lovely outdoor shower," which is located underneath the balcony and accompanied by the sounds of a bubbling creek.
Security is also a concern, as the locks on the cabin are reported to not work. Guests are strongly advised to bring a portable lock for the circular doorknob. These details highlight the rustic nature of the accommodation and the need for guests to be prepared and somewhat self-sufficient.
Unique Features and Outdoor Activities: One of the unique features of the Blakley Hobbit is the "lovely outdoor shower" located beneath the balcony, offering an open-air bathing experience with the soothing sounds of the nearby creek. However, guests should be aware that the curtains on the shower are "see-through," necessitating wearing a swimsuit for privacy, especially as it faces another cabin (though that cabin might not always be occupied).
The property itself offers a stream running alongside it, along with fire pits and benches, perfect for enjoying campfires and picnics. The surrounding area provides access to a variety of activities. The nearby town of Viroqua is described as a "very nice small town" with boutiques, antique shops, thrifting opportunities, clothing stores, coffee shops, and restaurants, showcasing local businesses. Pettibone Beach is mentioned as the closest swimming beach, noted for being nice and not too crowded.
Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity to Wildcat Mountain State Park, which offers hiking trails. Depending on the time of year and availability, guests might also be able to arrange horseback trail rides at local stables like "Three Witches Farm & Stable" (reservations likely required). The area is described as very scenic and beautiful, making drives and explorations enjoyable.
Important Considerations and Recommendations: Based on the reviews, potential guests should be aware of the following: bring your own cutting boards and cooking knives, consider using bins for pantry items due to a mouse, bring a portable lock for the door, wear a swimsuit for the outdoor shower due to see-through curtains and potential visibility from another cabin, bring your own towels for the shower, and bring extra toilet paper/wet wipes for the Port-a-pottie. The upstairs bedroom can get overheated, but AC and a fan are provided.
One reviewer initially had concerns based on reviews mentioning infestations of mice, hornets, ants, and bees, as well as concerns about a "drunk owner" and non-functional locks. However, their experience with the new host, Samantha, was positive, with open communication about these issues (e.g., the non-working locks and the possibility of a mouse). They found the cabin was not infested with hornets, ants, or bees, and they managed the single mouse with traps. This highlights the importance of potentially contacting the new host directly with any concerns.
Lack of Promotional Information and Booking Your Rustic Getaway: The provided information does not include any specific promotional offers or seasonal rates for Blakley Hobbit. To inquire about pricing, availability, and any current specials, it is recommended to contact the host directly at (608) 632-9091 or +1 608-632-9091. When booking, be sure to ask any specific questions you have based on the reviews, such as the location of the cabin relative to others, the functionality of amenities, and any recommendations for making your stay more comfortable.
In conclusion, Blakley Hobbit near Viola, Wisconsin, offers a rustic and unique "cabin rental near me" experience in a scenic location with access to outdoor activities and nearby towns. It is well-suited for groups or families looking for a budget-friendly option with multiple beds and a mostly equipped kitchen. However, guests should be prepared for the outdoor shower with privacy considerations, the outdoor toilet facility, and the need to bring certain kitchen and personal supplies, as well as a portable lock for security. Contacting the host directly for the most up-to-date information and to address any concerns is highly recommended to ensure a pleasant and memorable stay in this charming, albeit rustic, cabin.

Blakley Hobbit Reviews
My friends and I made fond memories at the rustic cabin. There were 5 beds for us, a mostly furnished kitchen, a black-and-white TV with some DVD's provided, along with some board games and cards. We also had access to tons activities outside of the cabin-- shopping at the local town (Viroqua), visiting Kickapoo state park, swimming at a beach, etc. There are a few things I wish I knew about when booking the cabin; I'd recommend bringing your own cutting boards and knives. We also used bins to store our pantry items because there's a mouse that will scavenge for crumbs (so I'd also recommend keeping a tidy kitchen to prevent it from being invasive). There are locks on the cabin, but they don't work, so I'd just order a "portable lock" from online or something like that. There's a lovely outdoor shower, right underneath the balcony. It's accompanied by the sounds of the bubbling creek in the backyard. The only thing to keep in mind is that the curtains are see-through, but all you have to do is wear a swimming suit to resolve that.Overall, while there are some things that I wish were different, my friends and I overall had a good time at this cabin. There are definitely good fishing spots in the area.
Jun 22, 2023 · nixyRecently, two friends of mine and I stayed at the Blakley Hobbit cabin for four nights (five days). After we had already booked the trip, we saw the reviews and were a little mortified with our decision. We went back and forth between deciding not to go, planning a different trip, or trying it out anyway. The reviews told us the cabin was infested with mice, hornets, ants, and bees. We were also concerned about the drunk owner and “no” locks. From this experience we learned, reviews are important but they are not everything; because the cabin (at least in our experience) was not infested with hornets, ants, or bees. There is one mouse that ran into sight a couple of times so we bought 2 mouse traps that we also left at the cabin. The most crucial thing that I recommend you do if you are concerned for any reason about this cabin is what we ended up doing; we contacted the NEW host (Samantha) who was very sweet and straightforward about all of our concerns (for example, yes, the locks don’t work, and that there may be a mouse but that is hard to avoid with it being a rustic cabin).Things I wish we knew about the cabin that you should know/what you should bring: Though kitchen is mostly furnished with tons of silverware, bowls, pots and pans, you should bring your own cutting boards and cooking knives because the cabin only has small knives. There is a very peaceful outdoor shower however it is facing another cabin and the curtains are still a little see-through; so do not come alone to this cabin but come with a friend that can “guard” you. The road nearby is a gravel road, so there aren’t many cars passing by; however, an occasional one. And the cabin the shower is facing may not always have people renting it. Shower does not supply towels. That there are also locks that don’t work, is an additional reason why you should not come alone. DIY project: bring portable lock (the door knob is circular if that helps any). There is an open “garage” with a roof for parking and right next to it is the Port-a-pottie, as the cabin does not contain a bathroom. It is a little bit inconvenient since it’s not right next to the cabin (especially when dark, so keep that in mind) however it is by no means far. Bring your own toilet paper and/or wet wipes as that bathroom could easily run out of its roll. The cabin contains a black-and-white TV with a few supplied DVD’s (we watched: Napoleon Dynamite) and also plenty of board games. There is an OUTSIDE staircase to the upstairs where the five beds are contained (three queen, two twin). Overall, the bedding/bedroom was very clean. So was the downstairs when we walked in, however I’d recommend you to wash all the dishes yourself before use. The upstairs bedroom does get overheated but there is AC and a fan that provide plenty of coolness.Activities that we did: Viroqua is a very nice small town that contains many boutiques and shops from antiques, thrifting, clothing, coffee shops, restaurants, and overall plenty of local businesses. Additionally, the closest beach is Pettibone Beach and it is nice for swimming, plus it is not too crowded! Nearest state park is Wildcat Mountain State Park that contains some nice trails for hiking. If you’re lucky, you can catch “Three Witches Farm & Stable” or a different stable at a time when they’re doing trail rides on horseback (something that would require a reservation)!Overall, the towns nearby, the drive to, and the cabin’s nearby area are very scenic and beautiful! There is a nice stream that runs along the cabin and plenty of firepits, benches…the place is also perfect for a picnic!
Jun 23, 2023 · MashaBeautiful spot!!! Owners are very accommodating and very nice. The scenery is spectacular and the privacy is top notch. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to look at the stars at night and enjoy their morning coffee with beautiful surroundings. The place is great and I highly recommend.
Jun 15, 2020 · Jason SteeleVery poor up keep on the cabin itself, the upstairs feels very shaky and as if it could collapse. Place is absolutely covered with bees as no maintenance as been done in that regard as well. To top it all off the owner came back to the cabin after he had been obviously drinking and started to make and manipulate new rules which eventually resulted in us not even staying one night. Not a safe place to stay, very rude owner.
Aug 04, 2019 · Dallas BernhardtWhen my wife made the reservation, the site had amenities listed as having a/c, sleeps 1-5 people, bathroom (as denoted with a shower head), and WiFi.AFTER she paid, site said there are no locks on the cabin door, and no refunds. We get there and there and the bathroom is an outhouse, there's no heat, there's only one bed, which was a loft. Where do the other 4 people stay. The deck and stairs are rotting away, and there's no modem for WiFi.We did bother staying and will eat the cost.HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED
