When browsing the "camping near me" category, Burlingame State Campgrounds stands out as a popular choice within Rhode Island. Reviews highlight its spaciousness, cleanliness, and helpful amenities. Whether you're a tent camper or prefer other forms of camping, this location appears to cater to a variety of outdoor enthusiasts. Let's delve into what makes Burlingame State Campgrounds a noteworthy option for your next camping trip.
The Environment: Lakeside Beauty and Coastal Access
Burlingame State Campgrounds boasts a favorable environment, offering the charm of a lake within the campground itself. One reviewer mentioned a "nice lake," suggesting opportunities for water-related activities such as swimming, fishing, or simply enjoying the scenic views. Additionally, its location in Charlestown provides convenient access to the coast, with East Beach being just a 10-minute drive away. This allows campers to enjoy both freshwater and saltwater experiences during their stay.
The campground is described as large, implying a sense of space and perhaps a variety of camping settings, from more open areas to wooded sites. This can cater to different preferences among campers. The fact that one visitor experienced it during the Easter Sunday off-peak season with few other people suggests that it can offer a tranquil experience, especially outside of the busiest times. However, its popularity, as indicated by it being a "favorite campground," implies it likely offers a pleasant atmosphere even when more occupied.
The surrounding area of Charlestown is known for its natural beauty, including beaches, wildlife refuges, and scenic landscapes. Camping at Burlingame State Campgrounds positions you well to explore these attractions, offering a blend of relaxation within the campground and opportunities for exploration beyond.
Services and Amenities: Convenience and Support
Customer feedback highlights several key services and amenities at Burlingame State Campgrounds. The presence of staff at the entrance 24/7 is a significant plus, providing security and a point of contact for any assistance needed, even during the night. Check-in is handled at the entrance, streamlining the arrival process.
For tent sites, reviewers noted the inclusion of a bench and a large fire pit. However, it's important to note that these sites do not automatically come with a grill for cooking over the fire. Campers planning to cook using the campfire should bring their own grill. The availability of wood for campfires is implied, as cooking over a fire is mentioned.
Other mentioned amenities include clean bathrooms and a store that sells "just about everything," which is a significant convenience for campers who might have forgotten essentials or wish to purchase snacks and other items without leaving the campground area. The management is also commended for keeping things clean and enforcing noise ordinances at night, contributing to a more pleasant and respectful camping environment for all guests.
In summary, the services and amenities appear to focus on both comfort and convenience, with helpful staff, clean facilities, and a well-stocked store.

Burlingame State Campgrounds Reviews
I was going on Easter Sunday. It was not a peak season, so almost no other people in the campground. The whole campground is large. Check in at the entrance. Staffs were very nice. They are 24/7 at the entrance. If you need help or anything, you can reach them at the entrance even at night. Tent site has a bench and a large fire pit, but no grill. If you plan to cook something with camp fire, you may need to bring a grill for fire pit or camp fire.
Apr 25, 2025 · Robin JadeOne of my favorite campgrounds and you don’t need to drive out of state to NH. Offers a nice lake, clean bathrooms and a store that sells just about everything. The management here does a good job of keeping things clean and doing rounds at night to enforce noise ordinance. 10 minute drive to East Beach.
Jun 30, 2024 · Martin J FernandezGreat clean wooded campground. We've stayed at tent sites & a cabin. Outhouses available all around. A couple Indoor bathrooms as well. Shower stalls for 1.00-$2.00 depending how long you want it on and they only accept quarters. There's an ATM at check in area. Get quarters from the arcade room.Campstore is very convenient. Has everything from eggs, bacon, sausage, milk, coffee, condiments, breads, non perishable foods, snacks, camping essentials, firewood bundles, games, kid stuff, first aid kits, cleaning supplies. They have canoe rentals starting at $40 and single kayak rentals as well for $60 each.Water spickets scattered around close by.Never had any issues with neighboring campers, everyone has always been super respectful.East Beach & Charlestown Breachway 5min down the road which has clear blue waters! ($7 to park at Charlestown Breachway)Walmart 10min from campground.
Jul 02, 2024 · Jacqueline SousaThis is the BEST CAMPGROUND EVER!I use to take my 4 kids there every weekend and a few friends. Sometimes for a week and The famous Misquamicut Beach 🏖️ is right around the corner also the Campground ⛺️ has a huge lake to swim 🏊 in.
Apr 05, 2025 · Diane WendlandI gave it a five stars because of location, lake, staff friendliness and large clean camp sites. But restrooms could use more cleaning at non rush hour times. Plus they should have motor rv's placed in a designated area. We were fine tenting, then our last evening got a huge bus rv on side camp area running the generator non stop. Our site 461 was awesome.
