Buttercup Campground Introduce
For local camping enthusiasts seeking a truly secluded and intimate experience within the "camping near me" category, Buttercup Campground near Mio, MI, presents a unique and potentially idyllic option. With an exceptionally limited number of campsites, this location promises a tranquil escape from more crowded campgrounds, emphasizing a close connection with nature and the scenic Au Sable River.
One of the most striking features of Buttercup Campground, as highlighted by a recent visitor, is its exclusivity. The reviewer noted, "This place is amazing... not many people so that is a plus only three campsite on the top and then one on the river." This scarcity of campsites suggests a high degree of privacy and a genuine opportunity to immerse oneself in the natural surroundings without the typical hustle and bustle of a larger campground. For those who prioritize solitude and a peaceful atmosphere, Buttercup Campground could be a perfect fit.
The unique configuration of the campsites further adds to its distinctive appeal. There are only three campsites located on higher ground, offering a traditional camping experience. However, the fourth campsite presents a particularly interesting and specialized opportunity: "one on the river but you can only stay if you dock with a kayak, canoeing or tube." This clearly indicates that this riverside campsite is exclusively accessible to those arriving via watercraft. This feature caters specifically to kayakers, canoers, and tubers looking for a truly integrated river camping experience, where their mode of transportation becomes their entry to their overnight stay. Imagine paddling along the Au Sable and pulling up directly to your riverside campsite for the night!
Despite its small size and secluded nature, Buttercup Campground offers essential amenities for a comfortable stay. A reviewer mentioned, "Nice place. Has a restroom and a fire ring at each site." The presence of a restroom facility, even if it's a basic vault toilet, provides a level of convenience that is often appreciated, especially for longer stays. The inclusion of a fire ring at each of the limited campsites ensures that campers can enjoy the quintessential camping experience of gathering around a fire for warmth, cooking, and storytelling under the stars. This thoughtful provision enhances the overall appeal of the campground.
Ease of access to the river is another significant advantage of Buttercup Campground. The reviewer stated, "Easy access to the river," which suggests that all campsites, including the three upland sites, are conveniently located near the Au Sable River. This allows all campers to easily enjoy the river for activities such as fishing, swimming, or simply taking in the scenic views. This accessibility, combined with the option of a dedicated riverfront campsite for paddlers, makes Buttercup Campground a prime location for river enthusiasts.
The environment surrounding Buttercup Campground is likely characterized by the natural beauty of the area near Mio, MI. Given its proximity to the Au Sable River, campers can expect a landscape that potentially includes wooded areas, riverbanks, and the sounds of flowing water. The limited number of campsites further suggests that the area is likely less developed and retains a more natural and undisturbed feel. This type of environment is highly valued by those seeking a genuine escape from urban life and a chance to reconnect with the outdoors.
For local users searching within the "camping near me" category, Buttercup Campground offers a unique proposition: a small, secluded campground with excellent river access and basic amenities. Its limited number of sites ensures a peaceful and private experience, making it ideal for individuals, couples, or small groups seeking tranquility. The dedicated riverside campsite for paddlers is a particularly distinctive feature that caters to a specific niche of outdoor adventurers.
While the reviews don't mention specific services beyond the restroom and fire rings, the very nature of a small, intimate campground often fosters a sense of community among the few visitors present. However, it's important to note that with such limited capacity, reservations might be highly recommended, especially during peak seasons or weekends, to secure one of the coveted spots.
In terms of promotional information, the most compelling aspect of Buttercup Campground is its inherent exclusivity and the unique riverside camping opportunity for paddlers. This isn't a campground that caters to large crowds or those seeking extensive amenities. Instead, its promotion lies in the promise of peace, quiet, and a direct connection with the Au Sable River in a less-trafficked setting. For local residents who value these qualities, Buttercup Campground stands out as a hidden gem within the "camping near me" options.
To fully enjoy a stay at Buttercup Campground, potential visitors should consider the limited number of campsites and plan accordingly. If you are arriving by kayak, canoe, or tube and wish to stay at the riverside site, be prepared for the unique logistics of this arrangement. For the three upland sites, be prepared for a more traditional camping experience with the added benefit of easy river access and a higher degree of privacy due to the campground's small size. Bringing your own water and being prepared for primitive restroom facilities is always a good practice for smaller campgrounds.
In conclusion, Buttercup Campground offers a distinctive and secluded camping experience near Mio, MI. Its extremely limited number of campsites, including a special river-access-only site for paddlers, ensures a tranquil and intimate connection with the natural environment and the Au Sable River. The presence of a restroom and fire rings at each site provides essential comfort. For local users within the "camping near me" category who prioritize peace, privacy, and river access, especially those arriving by kayak, canoe, or tube, Buttercup Campground presents an amazing and unique opportunity for a memorable outdoor getaway. Be sure to consider this hidden gem for your next local camping adventure and experience the tranquility of riverside camping in a truly exclusive setting!

Aug 14, 2020 · Melissa BrewerNice place. Has a restroom and a fire ring at each site. Easy access to the river.
Sep 10, 2018 · carinda johnsonAwesome camp ground right on the river, we’ve been camping here annually since 2002.
Jul 26, 2018 · Larry DorowNice small campground - looked like a couple of sites and an outhouse. The kayak launch is a bit of a walk from the campsites, and the trail was muddy at times, but it opens up to a beautiful view of the river at the launch. Buttercup appeared to be one of the more well-marked stops along this part of the Au Sable - most others don't have a true launch or a sign indicating where you're at, they're just a little dirt trail leading up a bank.
Jun 24, 2019 · Adam TataraNice secluded place to camp. With 3 drive up and 1 you can walk to on the river. With fire rings, picnic tables, and a open air out house! The river in a 1 min walk down the path.
