Alcona Park Introduce
Are you a local resident seeking a "camping near me" experience that combines scenic river views with convenient access to water activities? Alcona Park, located at 2550 Au Sable River Rd in Glennie, Michigan, offers cabin rentals and campground facilities along the picturesque Au Sable River. Based on recent customer reviews, Alcona Park presents a blend of natural beauty and functional amenities, with some considerations for potential guests.
One of the standout features of Alcona Park, particularly for those renting cabins on the East side, is the "beautiful views." The proximity to the Au Sable River offers a scenic backdrop for a relaxing getaway. The reviews also highlight the "pretty private" nature of these cabins, which can be a significant advantage for local users seeking a sense of seclusion and tranquility during their "camping near me" experience. This privacy is especially appreciated by those who prefer a quieter environment, as one reviewer specifically mentioned valuing the separation from others who might be "partying all night."
Alcona Park also caters to water enthusiasts with "two public-use boat launches." One launch is specifically designed for boats requiring trailers, while a smaller one is available for kayaks and paddleboards. This excellent access to the Au Sable River makes Alcona Park a prime location for local users interested in boating, fishing, kayaking, or simply enjoying the river. The "very clean park" environment further enhances the appeal for those who value a well-maintained outdoor space for their "camping near me" adventure.
The positive feedback extends to the park's atmosphere, with one reviewer noting "good energy, kind staff, and a fully staffed ice and wood kiosk at the camp entrance." Friendly and helpful staff can significantly improve the overall camping experience, and the convenience of an on-site kiosk for essential supplies like ice and firewood adds practical value for local campers.
However, the reviews also provide important details about the cabin amenities and associated costs. It's crucial for local users considering cabin rentals to note that the cabins "do not have electricity or water." While one reviewer found this "fine for what we needed," it implies a more rustic cabin experience that requires guests to be prepared for off-grid living. This lack of standard utilities might not be suitable for all local users seeking a "camping near me" option with more modern conveniences.
Another important point regarding the cabins is the discrepancy between the advertised sleeping capacity and the actual number of beds. One reviewer mentioned that a cabin listed online as sleeping six only contained "two beds. One was a bunk bed and another a full sized single." This significant difference in sleeping arrangements is a critical factor for local groups or families planning to rent a cabin and highlights the importance of verifying the exact layout and capacity with the park management when booking.
The cost of cabin rentals was described as "a little pricey for what's included," with one reviewer paying $140 for two nights. This suggests that while the location and views might be appealing, the lack of amenities within the cabins could be perceived as not fully justifying the price. Local users on a tighter budget might want to weigh this cost against other "camping near me" options in the area.
Furthermore, Alcona Park has specific policies regarding additional setups on the property. The review mentions that "you cannot put any additional tents or anything on the property without paying extra." This is an important consideration for larger groups who might assume they can set up extra sleeping arrangements alongside a rented cabin. Local users traveling with multiple families or requiring additional space should inquire about these extra charges when making their reservations.
The shower facilities at Alcona Park operate on a token system. Guests need to "buy tokens from the office" at a cost of "$0.25 each" for "about 5-7 minutes per token." While the reviewer acknowledged that this is "not expensive," they also felt that "for the overall price, showers should be included." This is a matter of convenience and perceived value that local users might want to consider when comparing Alcona Park with other "camping near me" options that might offer free shower access.
For restroom facilities, Alcona Park provides "outhouses located throughout the park." The reviewer noted that "most of them are fairly clean but do not usually have toilet paper." While cleanliness is a positive aspect, the lack of provided toilet paper is a practical detail that local campers need to be aware of and plan for by bringing their own supplies.
Despite these considerations, the overall experience of the reviewer was "good," indicating that the positive aspects of Alcona Park, such as the views, privacy of some cabins, boat launches, and clean environment, outweighed the drawbacks for their particular needs. However, the detailed feedback provides valuable insights for other local users to make an informed decision based on their own priorities and expectations for a "camping near me" getaway.
To obtain the most up-to-date information on pricing, cabin layouts, amenity availability, and any current promotional offers, local users are encouraged to contact Alcona Park directly using the provided phone numbers: (989) 735-3881 or +1 989-735-3881. Speaking with the park staff will allow potential guests to clarify any uncertainties and ensure that Alcona Park meets their specific requirements for a local camping experience along the beautiful Au Sable River.
In conclusion, Alcona Park in Glennie, Michigan, offers a "camping near me" option with stunning river views from some cabins and excellent access to the Au Sable River via two boat launches. The park is noted for its cleanliness and friendly staff. However, potential guests should be aware that the cabins lack electricity and water, may have discrepancies in advertised versus actual sleeping arrangements, and that showers require tokens. Additionally, extra charges apply for additional tents or items on the property, and the outhouses may not always have toilet paper. Despite these points, for local users prioritizing river access and scenic views and prepared for a more rustic cabin experience, Alcona Park could be a wonderful choice.

Alcona Park Reviews
Beautiful views from the cabins on the East side. They are pretty private and it's nice because we don't drink or party and sometimes it's hard to separate from others who are out partying all night. Cabins do not have electricity or water but it was fine for what we needed. It says on the website that the one we rented sleeps six but there were just two beds. One was a bunk bed and another a full sized single. Rentals are a little pricey for what's included. It was $140 for two nights and you cannot put any additional tents or anything on the property without paying extra. Showers take tokens, which you have to buy from the office. Tokens are $0.25 each and get you about 5-7 minutes per token. That's not expensive but for the overall price, showers should be included. There are outhouses located throughout the park and most of them are fairly clean but do not usually have toilet paper. Overall we had a good experience but there are some things that could be improved.
Aug 08, 2023 · Amanda PoppitiThis is a wonderful park, with two public-use boat launches. The Eastern launch is for the trailer-needed boats, and a smaller one for the kayak/paddleboard crowd. Very clean park, with good energy, kind staff, and a fully staffed ice and wood kiosk at the camp entrance.
