Apr 17, 2022 · LivingLifeFuckNiggaFree GodinezA really fabulously lovely recreation retreat for groups that come together to play once a year in the boonies of central TX. There’s quite a long waiting list for groups because it it has been a coveted place to stay for 28 years. I joined a group as a nurse managing Med administration and first aid situations for 80 adult campers with intellectual disabilities and 40 staff and counselors. The CFA website shows fabulous photos, better than my own, so check it out. Everything and everywhere is handicap friendly on the grounds. Archery, boating, pool and water activities, Zip line, arts and crafts, rock climbing, dancing, basketball - who could ask for more??Food was tasty, but lots of salt. Vegetables were provided including a nice healthy salad bar. July was extremely hot and dry in 2022, so campers were really coached to drink lots of fluids as they went from fun event to fun event. As a result, we only had a few campers suffering heat related health issues. Some room for improvement might be to add more opportunities for campers to be in shade while swimming, at certain activities like being in the amphitheater. Loud speakers in several cabins were faulty, causing horribly loud announcements that truly hurt ears. The water pressure was intermittently unreliable and sewage smells in the main building and a few cabins resulted from slow drains.Overall, the CFA staff and volunteers were phenomenal getting 5 out of 5. Kitchen staff was fabulous, kind, patient and extremely clean = 5 out of 5. The 4 out of 5 rating reflected excessively salty food, faulty loud speakers in some cabins, water pressure and lack of adequate shade for many activities, however, in a summer that has been the hottest on record, some of these observations are not in anyone’s control. I’d be honored to return again and am telling everyone about how terrific the experience has been.
Aug 02, 2022 · Jeanne BoyleI had the pleasure & honour to be a camp counsellor for X-TREME SPORTS CAMP for 4 summers at CAMP FOR ALL. Unfortunately , I was transferred to Iowa 😔 & am unable to come back right now. CFA is the most adapted, accessible camp facility I have ever been to. I can't say enough about all of the adaptations. Truly loved the nearly 0° Access to all buildings, the Dining Facility & Staff, the Totally Accessible Bunkhouses & many, many Fantastic Activities: Climbing Wall & Zip Line, Kayaking, Fishing, Bike Trails Etc, .... just to name a few. My favourite:: The Tree House. After my accident in 2000, I never thought I would be able to "climb" a tree or experience being in a treehouse again. Thank you & Kudos to the CFA Staff & Architects for making trees accessible again.
