Cedar Mountain Campground Introduce
For local users in the Culpeper, Virginia area (zip code 22701) who are searching within the "camping near me" category, Cedar Mountain Campground, located at 20114 Camp Rd, Culpeper, VA 22701, USA, offers a location in a seemingly rural setting. However, recent reviews present a starkly contrasting picture of the campground, highlighting both its basic nature and significant concerns regarding management and safety. Local users should carefully consider these points before deciding to stay at Cedar Mountain Campground.
One reviewer described the location as being in the "middle of nowhere," suggesting a quiet and potentially isolated environment. This could be appealing to those seeking a secluded getaway away from more developed areas. The same reviewer, who stayed for a month in November in a Class A motorhome, noted the absence of amenities, stating, "no amenities, which wasn't a big deal for us." They also mentioned that they did not ascertain the condition of the bathrooms or whether showers were available. This indicates that Cedar Mountain Campground might offer a more primitive camping experience with limited facilities. The reviewer did highlight a positive aspect, noting that the water quality was good, with no rust or sulfur smell. They also mentioned the lack of internet or service providers in the area but pointed out that the campground is "not too far from town," approximately 10 minutes away, offering some convenience for accessing supplies or services.
In stark contrast, another recent review paints a highly negative picture of Cedar Mountain Campground. This reviewer strongly advises others to "Do not go here!!" Their account details a troubling experience involving their mother, who had moved to the campground in a camper after falling on hard times. According to the review, despite having paid for the month, the mother decided to move out. During the process of legally moving her camper, a "maintenance" lady named Helen allegedly confronted them, accusing them of trespassing. The situation escalated when this individual reportedly took pictures of the moving lady's vehicle after being asked not to. The reviewer emphasizes that their mother owned her camper and was only renting the lot space, which was paid for until the end of October.
The negative review further alleges a physical altercation, stating that after an exchange of words, the "Helen woman proceeded to reach into my mothers truck and smacked my mother!" The reviewer warns others to "Beware of this campground!" and describes it as "nothing but trouble," claiming that the owner supports the maintenance lady. Additional negative points raised include the campground being "run down," having "nothing to do for kids," and a frequent presence of law enforcement ("a bunch of cops in and out all the time"). This review strongly advises potential visitors to "Stay away!" due to these serious concerns.
Based on these two reviews, the services and features of Cedar Mountain Campground appear to be minimal and potentially problematic. The first review suggests a lack of standard campground amenities, with no certainty about the quality or even presence of bathrooms and showers. The positive mention of water quality is one of the few services explicitly highlighted. The second review does not focus on amenities but rather on alleged negative interactions with staff and safety concerns, implying a potentially hostile or unstable environment.
The features of Cedar Mountain Campground, as perceived through these reviews, are contradictory. One perspective suggests a quiet, albeit basic, location suitable for self-sufficient campers who prioritize a rural setting and good water. The other perspective paints a picture of a poorly managed, unsafe environment with confrontational staff and a lack of facilities for families. The mention of long-term stays (one month) in the first review indicates that the campground might cater to individuals seeking extended accommodation, but the negative review raises serious doubts about the suitability and safety of such stays.
Neither review provides any information regarding promotional offers or pricing. Local users would need to contact Cedar Mountain Campground directly at (540) 547-3374 or +1 540-547-3374 to inquire about rates, availability, and any specific policies or services offered. Given the significant negative feedback regarding management and safety, it would be prudent for potential visitors to ask detailed questions about these aspects and perhaps seek more recent reviews from other sources before making a decision.
In conclusion, for local users searching for "camping near me" in Culpeper, VA, Cedar Mountain Campground at 20114 Camp Rd presents a location with a seemingly rural environment and potentially good water quality. However, it is crucial to acknowledge the serious allegations of mismanagement, safety concerns, and even physical altercation raised in a recent review. While one reviewer found the lack of amenities acceptable for a long-term stay, the other strongly advises against visiting due to these significant issues. Local users should weigh these contrasting perspectives carefully and are strongly encouraged to conduct further research and direct inquiries, specifically addressing the safety and management concerns, before considering a stay at Cedar Mountain Campground.

Cedar Mountain Campground Reviews
Not as bad as the reviews make it seem. Middle of nowhere and no amenities, which wasn't a big deal for us, don't know what shape the bathrooms were in or if they had showers. Stayed here for a month in November in our class a motor home. Everyone pretty much keeps to themselves. Water is great, no rust or sulfur smell. No internet or internet providers able to come service. Not too far from town though, only amount 10 mins away.
Jan 03, 2017 · Sara AmoDo not go here!! My mother and her husband fell on hard times so she bought a camper and moved out there. It was nothing but trouble. She had her month paid up but decided to move out because she found a home and once she was moving her camper LEGALLY, the “maintenance” lady Helen came down running her mouth saying they were trespassing! We hired a lady to move her camper and this Helen lady started taking pictures of the moving lady’s vehicle after she had requested her not to do so. My mother owns her camper and was only renting the lot space. It was paid until the end of October. Then, to make matters worse, there were some words exchanged and the Helen woman proceeded to reach into my mothers truck and smacked my mother! Beware of this campground! It’s nothing but trouble and the owner backs up the maintenance lady. It’s run down, nothing to do for kids, and a bunch of cops in and out all the time. Stay away!
Oct 22, 2022 · Manda LoveWe've been going here for years. It is a dump, but there doesn't seem to be any place else around that has room for our huge family the weekends of the Apple Festival. Bathrooms are the worst, some toilets non-working, cobwebs everywhere, no paper towels to dry your hands and sometimes no toilet paper. On the up side, the owners usually have the place decorated nicely for Halloween and they bring firewood when we need it. It's an ok place if it's just for a weekend, but this year we are bringing our own bathroom in an RV. Can't take the nasty bathrooms anymore!
Oct 08, 2012 · Ann DerbyWe had requested 50amp, the first site didn’t have any power. We moved to another site, same issue. We ended up plugging into the site beside us, it ended up being only 120volt. Was very frustrating, luckily it was a cool night. Will not be returning.
Jul 14, 2019 · K. E. JonesIf I could do a negative stars I would. This place is awful! Smells like sewage all the time (sewage overflows into the pond). They have no amenities whatsoever! There are dead trees everywhere that they refuse to cut and they tell you they’re not responsible if they fall onto your property and do damage! Linda the owner is just rude and mean! If you ask her anything she will come around and stick a note on your door telling you she’s going to charge you extra for this and that just because you said something to her. She’s vindictive. She charges anyone that stays in the camper over 1 person 2$ extra a day! Then she charges outrageous fees to park there and it’s never the same! If you have more than one vehicle you have to pay an extra 10$!There’s always police there due to the drug addicts and lowlifes that live there. The mosquitos are awful! There’s never water if there is it’s always red and under a boil water notice. I advise to go down the road to the Madison campground. Stay away from here!
