Citizen's Lake Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Monmouth, Illinois area? Citizen's Lake Campground, located in Monmouth, IL 61462, USA, offers a range of camping options to suit various needs and preferences. With a phone number of (309) 734-2141 or mobile at +1 309-734-2141, reaching out to the campground for inquiries and reservations is convenient for local users seeking a nearby outdoor experience.
Based on recent customer reviews, Citizen's Lake Campground is generally well-kept and offers a pleasant environment for campers. The presence of a lake is a significant feature, providing opportunities for fishing and kayaking. According to one review, the lake is stocked with fish regularly, and a boardwalk offers ample cleared ground for accessible fishing around the entire lake. For those interested in angling, it's advisable to inquire about specific fishing regulations when contacting the campground.
For tent campers utilizing the "camping near me" platform, Citizen's Lake Campground offers a grassy area for ground tents. However, it's important to note that the tent camping space appears to be somewhat limited, with one reviewer estimating approximately 40x40 yards of mowed area available on a first-come, first-served basis without assigned spaces. The parking of vehicles may also be a short distance away from the tent spots, as indicated in one of the provided images. While electric hookups are available in the tent area, campers should be prepared with a potentially long extension cord (over 40 feet was needed in one instance).
The tent area includes a charcoal grill and two fire pits for communal use. Depending on the number of tent campers, privacy might be limited due to the proximity of neighboring tents (one reviewer mentioned being about 10 yards away from other tent families). Campers seeking a secluded and private tent camping experience might find this aspect less ideal, especially during busier periods.
A notable point for light sleepers or those specifically seeking the sounds of nature is the campground's proximity to a highway, resulting in vehicle traffic, including semi-trucks, and frequent train noise throughout the night. This is an important consideration for those prioritizing a quiet and undisturbed natural ambiance when searching for "camping near me."
For RV, auto, and pop-up campers, Citizen's Lake Campground provides concrete spaces that appear capable of accommodating large RVs. These lots are equipped with power and water hookups. While the exact pricing for these spaces was not mentioned in the reviews, one reviewer noted that the prices for full hookups are reasonable. Information regarding sewage hookups for RV sites was not available in the provided text, so it is recommended to inquire about this when contacting the campground.
The grounds manager, Dan, received positive feedback for his helpfulness. One tent camper recounted an instance where Dan brought a wooden picnic table to their site upon request and even loaned an extra extension cord when needed. This level of service contributes positively to the overall camping experience, making it a more comfortable and convenient stay for those exploring "camping near me" options.
Overall, one reviewer summarized their stay as a "great stay for the money," feeling rested, clean, safe, and comfortable. They mentioned that while it wasn't a "Five Star rated" campground compared to nicer, non-primitive options they had visited, it still offered a worthwhile experience. Another reviewer described the campground as "nice" and "very well kept," further highlighting the positive aspects of the property's maintenance and the appeal of the lake for fishing and kayaking.
Citizen's Lake Campground offers flexible stay options, accommodating overnight stays, short visits of a night or two, and longer durations, including monthly rates. This flexibility can be advantageous for local users with varying camping schedules and needs when searching for "camping near me."
In conclusion, Citizen's Lake Campground in Monmouth, IL, provides a reasonably priced and well-maintained camping option with the added benefit of a lake for recreational activities like fishing and kayaking. It caters to both tent and RV campers, although tent sites have limited space and proximity to other campers. The highway and train noise might be a concern for some. However, the helpfulness of the staff and the availability of essential amenities make it a viable choice for those in the local area seeking "camping near me." For specific details on site availability, pricing, and amenities like sewage hookups, contacting the campground directly is recommended.

Citizen's Lake Campground Reviews
We used a tent ground spot, grass (limited tent space/parked vehicle 30' away (see the picture, our tent shows in bottom right corner & our little black car to the far left)). $10 for night, with electric (40'+ extension cord needed) About 40x40 yards of mowed tent camping space available. First come, first serve, no assigned spaces. One charcoal grill & two fire pits in tent area. Had two other tent families nearby, about 10 yards away each (so limited privacy). The more tent campers, the less space to spread out (see photos of tent area). Campgrounds are right off a highway which means vehicles, semis & multiple trains thru night. Light sleepers or campers looking for ONLY sounds of nature will not like this.Lake boardwalk with plenty of cleared ground to access fishing all the way around lake & stocked with fish regularly (see fishing regulations photo).RV, Auto & pop-up concrete spaces available which will accommodate large RV's. Power & water hook up at each lot, price unknown. (limited spaces, unsure of sewage hook up. I did not visit the area but I included photos).Dan (grounds manager) brought a wooden park picnic table to our space, by request. Also he loaned me an extra extension cord, as I was over 20 ft. short. All in all a great stay for the money. Stayed rested & clean, felt safe & comfortable. Not Five Star rated only because I've visited nicer, non-primitive campgrounds.
Aug 12, 2023 · Chris BryantNice campground, very well kept, and lake to fish in and kayak on. Prices are reasonable for full hookups. You can stay for a night or two or however long and they also have monthly rates.
Jul 24, 2022 · Tracy ZimmNice quiet park with a fishing pond. There were many people fishing and I saw some actually catching fish, too :)
Apr 18, 2023 · Kelli FieldsThis was our 2nd summer staying at Citizen’s Lake Campground. Just a nice relaxing campground. Nice lake for fishing and boating on with electric motor only. They do not rent boats or any water crafts so bring your own. Camp host is great very helpful and polite. Prices are very reasonable for the area. Be sides being close to the high with the noice of the trucks and occasional train whistle, Citizens Lake is a very nice campground. We will be back.
Aug 11, 2024 · Kevin OlsonIt's loud. It was very, very loud as the semis travel up and down this highway only several yards away. And be mindful of the stink bugs. Those nasty things will find a way into your rv, and you will be dealing with them for days after you leave the park. However, the price is fair for full hook-ups, and the manager, Dan, is a very nice and helpful man.
