Clubhouse Campground Introduce
For local users in Minnesota seeking a more traditional and rustic "camping near me" experience, Clubhouse Campground, located in Marcell, MN 56657, USA, offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature. Situated within a national forest, this campground provides a tranquil environment characterized by beautiful lakeside sites and scenic views. The provided customer reviews offer valuable insights into the environment, features, and important considerations for potential visitors.
The environment of Clubhouse Campground is frequently described as beautiful and tranquil, with lakeside sites offering particularly appealing views. The presence of a lake naturally suggests opportunities for water-based activities, with fishing being specifically mentioned as a great feature. For families with young children, there is a quaint swimming beach, providing a safe and enjoyable area for kids to enjoy the water. However, as with many outdoor locations in Minnesota, particularly during the warmer months, it is essential to be prepared for mosquitoes, often referred to humorously as the "MN state bird." Bringing appropriate insect repellent is highly recommended to ensure a comfortable stay.
In terms of services, it is crucial for local users considering "camping near me" at Clubhouse Campground to be aware of its rustic nature. A significant point highlighted in the reviews is the absence of running water and electricity. All water must be sourced from a hand pump, emphasizing the need for campers to be self-sufficient in their water needs. Additionally, there is a good chance of experiencing limited or no cell phone coverage. For some, as one reviewer notes, these limitations might be seen as a plus, contributing to the unplugged and back-to-nature feel of the campground. However, for others, these are important factors to consider regarding convenience and safety.
Despite the minimal infrastructure, Clubhouse Campground offers several appealing features. The swimming area is noted as quite nice and popular among campers, suggesting a well-maintained and enjoyable space for water recreation. For those interested in light exercise and exploration, there is a short hiking trail within the campground. Furthermore, an accessible fishing pier is available, providing opportunities for anglers of all abilities to try their luck on the lake. The combination of swimming, fishing, and a hiking trail offers a diverse range of outdoor activities for campers.
Maintenance at Clubhouse Campground appears to be somewhat minimal, as indicated by a reviewer's observation that the beach and picnic area did not seem to have been mowed for a significant portion of the season. While this suggests a more natural and less manicured environment, it's something to be aware of for those who prefer meticulously maintained grounds. On a positive note, road grading was observed on the gravel campground loops, indicating some level of upkeep to ensure accessibility within the campground.
Interestingly, there seems to be a transition occurring with some of the off-lake campsites. Several are reported as being without picnic tables, suggesting they might be in the process of being decommissioned. Simultaneously, a stack of new, unused picnic tables was seen near a firewood storage building, hinting at potential future improvements or reconfigurations within the campground. This suggests that while some areas might appear less maintained, there is also evidence of ongoing efforts to provide essential amenities.
For local users planning their "camping near me" trips, the reviews offer valuable insights into campsite availability. During summer weeknights, it appears that securing a lakeside site is generally not an issue, even without prior reservations. However, by Friday night, the lakeside sites tend to fill up, along with approximately half of the off-lake sites. This information is crucial for those hoping for a prime lakeside location and suggests that arriving earlier in the week or being flexible with site selection might be necessary for weekend camping.
The surrounding area of Marcell, MN, offers convenient access to essential supplies and services. Nearby towns provide options for groceries, bait for fishing, and restaurants. This is particularly helpful given the limited amenities within the campground itself, allowing campers to easily resupply or enjoy a meal out if desired. This accessibility to nearby towns balances the rustic nature of the campground, providing a degree of convenience without compromising the natural experience.
In terms of promotional information, Clubhouse Campground appeals to those seeking a more primitive and natural camping experience. The beautiful lakeside setting, coupled with opportunities for fishing, swimming, and hiking, are key attractions. The tranquility and scenic views offer a peaceful escape from more developed campgrounds. For local users specifically looking for "camping near me" that provides a break from technology and the hustle of modern life, the lack of electricity and limited cell service could be a significant draw. The affordability of camping in a national forest campground is also often a promotional point, though specific pricing is not provided in the reviews.
Local users should be aware that Clubhouse Campground caters to a specific type of camper – one who is comfortable with self-sufficiency and values a natural, less developed environment. If you are looking for a "camping near me" experience with full hookups, running water at each site, and reliable cell service, Clubhouse Campground is likely not the ideal choice. However, if you appreciate beautiful scenery, enjoy basic outdoor activities, and are prepared for a more rustic setting, this national forest campground in Marcell, MN, could offer a rewarding and tranquil getaway.

Clubhouse Campground Reviews
Beautiful sites, tranquil views, some great fishing, and quaint swimming beach for the young ones. Make sure to bring your preferred way to deal with the MN state bird, mosquitos. The nearby towns offer some great options for groceries, bait, and restaurants if you don't have any luck on the lake. BE INFORMED there is NO running water or electricity here, all water comes from a hand pump, and there is a good chance you WON'T have cell coverage. I think these things are a plus, but you may not.
Aug 07, 2023 · Blam BamAn idyllic rustic national forest campground. Maintenance efforts here appear minimal; as of late July, the beach and picnic area didn't look to have been mowed all season. The campground isn't completely neglected, though. A road grader made two passes through the gravel campground loops during our stay.A number of off-lake campsites appear to be getting decommissioned, as they're without a picnic table. Meanwhile, a stack of new picnic tables sat unused outside a firewood storage building. If you visit on a summer weeknight, you shouldn't have any issue getting a lakeside site, even without reservations. By Friday night, lakeside sites filled along with about half of the off-lake sites. The swimming area is quite nice and very popular among campers. There's also a short hiking trail here, along with an accessible fishing pier.
