Tiller, OR 97484, USA

4.0
This campground is extremely enjoyable. Located in Tiller, it features 3 individual campsites for $10 per site plus $5 per additional vehicle. Each site has its own grill, fire pit and picnic table. There is a communal bathroom which is convenient, however so smelly that when the wind blows certain ways it is hard to breatheDespite that, the campground is worth it due to the communal path to the swimming hole. It is a very nice, albeit rocky, beach with shallow wading areas with deeper patches for swimming. Tons of exploring nearby too. Bring swimming shoes as the rocks can make your feet sore quickly. Floats and/or rafts recommended for relaxation. - John VanSickle

You can reach them at (541) 957-3200 or +1 541-957-3200 for inquiries and potential reservations. Based on the available customer reviews, Dumont Creek Campground offers individual campsites with basic amenities and a significant natural attraction, although there is a notable concern regarding the communal bathroom.

Environment and Location:

Dumont Creek Campground is situated in Tiller, a small community in Douglas County, Oregon. The campground's location suggests it is nestled within the natural beauty of the region, likely surrounded by forests and the South Umpqua River. One reviewer specifically mentions stopping there while traveling up the South Umpqua River, indicating its proximity to this waterway, which serves as a key recreational feature.

The standout environmental feature highlighted in the reviews is the "communal path to the swimming hole." This indicates direct access to a natural swimming area on the South Umpqua River, described as a "very nice, albeit rocky, beach with shallow wading areas with deeper patches for swimming." This natural swimming hole is a significant draw, offering a refreshing way to enjoy the river. The reviewer also recommends bringing swimming shoes due to the rocky nature of the beach and suggests using floats or rafts for relaxation in the water.

Beyond the immediate campground and swimming hole, the first review mentions "tons of exploring nearby too," suggesting that the Tiller area offers additional opportunities for outdoor adventures, such as hiking, nature walks, or exploring other parts of the South Umpqua River and surrounding forests.

Services and Amenities:

Dumont Creek Campground offers a basic yet functional set of amenities. According to one review, it features "3 individual campsites" available at an affordable rate of "$10 per site plus $5 per additional vehicle." This pricing structure makes it a budget-friendly option for individuals and small groups. Each campsite is equipped with its own grill, fire pit, and picnic table, providing essential infrastructure for cooking and enjoying the outdoors.

A "communal bathroom" is available for campers' convenience. However, this is also the source of a significant concern, as the reviewer describes it as "so smelly that when the wind blows certain ways it is hard to breathe." This is a serious drawback that potential visitors should be aware of, as it could significantly impact their comfort during their stay. Despite this issue, the reviewer still found the campground "worth it" due to the swimming hole access.

It is important to note that the reviews do not mention the availability of other common campground amenities such as showers, electrical hookups, or water hookups at individual sites. Based on the description and pricing, Dumont Creek Campground likely offers a more rustic camping experience with basic facilities.

Features and Campsite Details:

The campground is described as having "3 individual campsites," which suggests a small and intimate camping area. The provision of a personal grill, fire pit, and picnic table at each site enhances the individual camping experience, allowing each group to have their own cooking and gathering space.

The primary feature that sets Dumont Creek Campground apart is its direct access to the swimming hole on the South Umpqua River. The description of the rocky beach, shallow wading areas, and deeper swimming spots indicates a natural and enjoyable water recreation area suitable for various ages and preferences. The recommendation to bring swimming shoes highlights the natural, potentially uneven terrain of the swimming area.

The mention of nearby exploring opportunities adds to the appeal for those who enjoy hiking or exploring the surrounding natural environment beyond the campground itself.

Despite the negative feedback regarding the smell of the communal bathroom, the overall sentiment from the reviews suggests that the positive aspects of the campground, particularly the swimming hole and the individual campsite amenities, outweigh this drawback for some visitors.
