Looking for an exceptional camping and retreat experience in Southern California? Under the platform category "Camping Near Me," we proudly present Forest Home, a remarkable destination nestled at 40000 Valley of the Falls Dr, Forest Falls, CA 92339, USA. Based on glowing reviews and detailed feedback from past visitors, Forest Home offers a wide array of experiences, catering to families, children, and even non-religious groups seeking a unique venue for their events.
Forest Home appears to be more than just a traditional campground; it functions as a well-organized camp and retreat center with a rich history of providing memorable experiences. Reviews consistently highlight the stunning natural environment, the quality of the programs, and the caring nature of the staff, making it a standout choice for those seeking more than just a place to pitch a tent.
An "AMAZING" Camp Experience in a Picturesque Setting
One enthusiastic reviewer describes Forest Home as "AMAZING!" and notes having visited numerous camps across different states, emphasizing that this one is "extra special." This sentiment speaks volumes about the unique atmosphere and offerings of Forest Home. The location in Forest Falls provides a beautiful backdrop, likely characterized by the natural beauty of the San Bernardino Mountains, creating a serene and engaging environment for all visitors.
Exceptional Programs and Loving Counselors
A recurring theme in the positive feedback is the quality of the counselors. Described as "kind and loving," their sincerity is said to be obvious, making children feel genuinely cared for. This is particularly important for families considering sending their kids to camp programs. The reviewer with five children felt that their kids were well-loved by everyone, highlighting a nurturing and supportive environment. Furthermore, the programming is lauded as "top notch," suggesting well-organized and engaging activities for participants of all ages.
Delicious Food and Abundant Outdoor Activities
Another significant aspect praised by visitors is the delicious camp food. Nutritious and enjoyable meals are a crucial part of any camp experience, and the positive comments indicate that Forest Home excels in this area. Complementing the good food are the "abundant outdoor activities" available. While the specific activities are not exhaustively listed, the natural mountain setting likely offers opportunities for hiking, exploring, and various outdoor adventures, ensuring that there is always something to do and see.
Family-Friendly Amenities: Playground and Laundromat
For families with toddlers, Forest Home offers practical and convenient amenities. The presence of a laundromat is a significant advantage for longer stays, allowing families to keep clothes clean and fresh. Additionally, the inclusion of a playground provides a dedicated space for young children to play and burn energy in a safe environment. There is also mention of an indoor play area for little ones, offering an alternative for less favorable weather conditions.
Comfort and Convenience: Camp Store and Coffee Shop
Forest Home goes the extra mile in providing convenience for its guests. A camp store is available, offering the opportunity to purchase camp clothing, including sweatshirts – a useful item, as one reviewer advises bringing layers even in early summer due to fluctuating temperatures and potential foggy days. For those in need of a caffeine fix or a quick bite, there is also a coffee shop on-site, along with a grill that serves items like fries and sodas, providing additional dining options beyond the main dining hall.
Inclusivity: Welcoming Non-Religious Groups
Despite its identity as a religious camp, Forest Home also opens its doors to non-religious groups for various events. This inclusivity makes it a versatile venue for a wide range of gatherings, from corporate retreats to educational trips. However, one reviewer shared an experience of sharing facilities (lake area and dining hall) with another group, which led to some frustrations regarding dining service and lake access rules (requiring a lifeguard even for wading).
Accommodation: Rustic Cabins
The cabins at Forest Home are described as "decent" but do not have air conditioning. This is an important consideration for visitors, especially during the warmer months. Being prepared for potentially warm conditions inside the cabins is advisable. Despite this, the "attractions" are noted as fun, suggesting that the overall experience remains positive due to the activities and the environment.
Overall Impression: A Gem with Minor Considerations
While one reviewer expressed being only "moderately impressed" due to shared facilities and specific rules, the overwhelming majority of feedback paints a picture of Forest Home as a truly special place. The positive comments regarding the staff, programs, food, and amenities outweigh the concerns about sharing facilities and the lack of air conditioning in the cabins. For those seeking a well-rounded camp or retreat experience with a strong emphasis on outdoor activities and a supportive community, Forest Home appears to be an excellent choice.

Forest Home Reviews
I was talking to some friends about Forest Home and how much we loved our family camp experience in 2023 and the thought prompted me to leave a review. I had no idea what we would do or what the camp even really looked like prior to coming…so I thought I’d share some photos from our experience for people who are considering coming. This camp is AMAZING! I have visited several camps over the years in Washington, North Carolina, and throughout California and this one is extra special. The counselors are such kind and loving people. Their sincerity really was obvious and my 5 kids felt so loved by everyone. The camp food is delicious and the programming is top notch. Outdoor activities abound and it’s just truly a gem of a place. We would go back every summer if we could! For families with toddlers considering coming: there is a laundromat and there is a playground! They also have an indoor play area for little ones. For anyone: bring layers in early summer. We had several days where it was warm, but we had several foggy days as well, and I was really thankful I had a few sweatshirts to wear in rotation. There is a camp store though if you would like to buy some camp clothing—sweatshirts included! They also have a coffee shop and a grill where you can get fries and sodas (among other things I can’t quite remember.) This camp has it all.
Jun 11, 2024 · Emily SuddathEven though it's a religious camp, they rent out to non-religious groups for different events. We shared the lake area with a private college's water Athletics department for an annual retreat that they do. We also had to share the dining hall with them. It was frustrating to have to wait for them to get their food before we got ours, especially since they completely ignored the serving sizes. (A plate piled HIGH with scrambled eggs, for example, when we were only allowed a small scoop each). Want to go in the lake up to your ankles? NO! Not without a lifeguard present! Insert eye-roll here. The cabins were decent (do NOT plan on air conditioning), and the attractions were fun, but all in all, I was only moderately impressed.
Sep 18, 2023 · Gil B. Jr.We loved our Memorial weekend at Forest Home family camp! Great location, activities, food, people, etc. It's so great that they have times on the schedule where kids and adults are separated by age, but also times where families are doing activities together. And incredible how they have childcare in the evenings for adults to do their own thing!!The long weekend was definitely too short, so we would recommend doing the full week - although it's expensive. However, we would not recommend it for kids that still have to nap. We felt that we wasted a lot of the precious time by coming back to the cabin for naps, so we missed out on being able to do some free time activities. We will probably be back when all our kids are 5+.
Dec 13, 2024 · Melinda MuyargasOur family was surprised by how amazing our first family camp experience was. We thought it would be a fun week away but we were blown away, and ended up returning for a second year. The fellowship with other families, worship and teaching, outdoor activities, and food were all exceptional. The balance between leisure time and structured time was nice. The feeling of being “away from it all” but being only a short drive from the major freeways was convenient. But the best part, and what really seems to set Forest Home family camp apart is the CCA (childcare assistant) program, which was such a huge blessing to our family. We got to basically have date nights every night and enjoy solid teaching while our kids enjoyed time with the young lady who was assigned to our family for the week. The CCAs are well-trained to handle challenges (and when to call in for backup like when my son got an altitude-induced bloody nose) and we’ll prepared to have fun with the kids. They also made an effort to connect more with our families during free time and generally make the kids feel special. Also, the milkshakes and fries are delicious and the water slide is super fun! 😊
Mar 17, 2018 · Nicole BennettWe had an incredible experience on the mountain with Family Camp. The food was incredible. Literally each day was like a journey across the world. From ramen with nori and mushrooms to steak and potatoes. We even were served Mediterranean with hummus, pita and couscous salad. My children loved everything. Mainly the connections with the CCA babysitters, other kids and staff. There was a video they showed in the beginning of camp with Billy Graham testifying of his experience there, it was beautiful. There was also a speaker named Jo-Nathan Brown who by God brought depths of parenting knowledge that you could never put a price tag on. We were truly blessed here!!!
