Situated directly on the scenic banks of the Yellow River, this 8-site campground offers a tranquil escape for both tent and RV campers seeking a convenient and affordable outdoor adventure.
Gilman Scout Park boasts a naturally beautiful environment, characterized by its heavily wooded and shady terrain. This makes it an ideal retreat, especially during the warmer months, providing ample protection from the sun and creating a cool and comfortable atmosphere for relaxation. Imagine waking up to the gentle sounds of the river and the dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves – a truly immersive nature experience awaits.
Despite its modest size, Gilman Scout Park is well-equipped with the essential amenities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Each of the eight campsites features a designated fire pit, perfect for evening campfires and cooking under the stars. You'll also find picnic tables, some of which are conveniently sheltered, providing a dedicated space for meals and gatherings. For vehicle parking, the campground offers paved areas suitable for both cars and recreational vehicles, ensuring easy access to your campsite.
Understanding the importance of basic necessities, Gilman Scout Park provides pit toilets for sanitation. While the water source is a hand pump, it offers a rustic touch and allows campers to stay hydrated throughout their visit. It's always a good idea to bring extra water or a water filter as a precautionary measure.
One of the unique advantages of Gilman Scout Park is its close proximity to the village of Gilman. Within a convenient 1.5-mile radius, campers have easy access to a range of local services and conveniences. Need to refuel your vehicle or grab some last-minute supplies? You'll find two gas stations nearby. For groceries and other essentials, a local grocery store is readily accessible. If you happen to need any hardware or camping gear, a hardware store is also located in the village. When it comes to dining options, you can choose from a local restaurant or unwind at one of the two bars in the area. This accessibility to town amenities offers a blend of natural camping with the convenience of nearby services, making Gilman Scout Park a practical choice for many.

Based on feedback from fellow campers, Gilman Scout Park generally receives positive reviews for its cleanliness and easy access. Many appreciate the well-maintained sites and the convenience of having essential amenities available. The wooded environment and the proximity to the Yellow River are also frequently highlighted as major draws.
However, it's important to note a couple of points raised by previous visitors. One camper mentioned that the area felt "a little too open" for their personal camping preferences, suggesting that some sites might offer less privacy than others. Additionally, the presence of nearby train tracks was noted, which could potentially result in some noise. If you are particularly sensitive to noise, this is something to keep in mind when choosing your campsite.
In summary, Gilman Scout Park presents a wonderful opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Wisconsin without straining your budget. Its location on the Yellow River, coupled with its wooded campsites and essential amenities like fire pits, picnic tables, and convenient parking, makes it a solid choice for those searching for "camping near me."
