Hoop Lake Campground Introduce
For local outdoor enthusiasts in the Evanston, Wyoming area searching for "camping near me," Hoop Lake Campground, located at FR 079, Evanston, WY 82930, USA, offers a promising natural setting for a camping getaway. Situated near the beautiful Hoop Lake, this campground is lauded for its scenic beauty and opportunities for outdoor recreation, particularly hiking and fishing. However, recent feedback also highlights some aspects that potential visitors should be aware of when planning their trip.
Hoop Lake itself is described as beautiful, and the fishing is consistently reported as good, with a variety of fish available. This makes Hoop Lake Campground an attractive destination for anglers looking to enjoy a lakeside camping experience. The presence of diverse fish species adds to the appeal for those who enjoy spending time by the water, whether for leisurely fishing or simply enjoying the serene views of the lake.
The environment of Hoop Lake Campground is further enhanced by the abundance of trees, which are appreciated by campers for providing shade and contributing to a more immersive natural experience. The campground is divided into two sections: one located straight ahead upon arrival and another situated off to the right. Importantly, both sections offer access to the lake, providing more options for campers to choose a site that suits their preferences and needs, particularly regarding proximity to the water.
One of the notable features of Hoop Lake Campground, as mentioned by a frequent visitor, is the absence of phone service. While this might be a drawback for some who need to stay connected, it can also be a significant advantage for those seeking a true escape from the digital world and an opportunity to fully immerse themselves in nature without the distractions of constant communication. This lack of connectivity can contribute to a more peaceful and secluded camping experience.
However, despite these positive aspects, recent reviews also point out some significant areas of concern regarding the maintenance and upkeep of the campground. One reviewer notes that the campground has been neglected, with camp spots no longer level due to years of erosion. This could pose challenges for setting up tents or parking RVs and trailers comfortably and safely. Uneven sites can also affect the functionality of RV appliances that require a level surface.
Further concerns are raised about the condition of the fire pits, which are described as rusted out of the ground. This suggests a lack of maintenance that could impact the safety and usability of these essential camping amenities. Rusted and unstable fire pits may not be safe for building campfires, which are often a central part of the camping experience for cooking and gathering.
The road leading into the campground is also reported to be in poor condition, having not been graded in years. This has resulted in "huge pit holes" that can make it difficult to navigate, especially when towing trailers. The poor road conditions could potentially cause damage to vehicles and trailers and detract from the overall camping experience from the moment of arrival.
Another significant issue mentioned in a recent review is that the water has been turned off at the campground. The availability of potable water is a fundamental requirement for any campground, and its absence can severely impact the comfort and safety of campers, especially for longer stays. Visitors would need to bring their own water supply, which might limit the duration and convenience of their camping trip.
Despite these maintenance issues, the reviews do offer some positive feedback. The bathrooms are reported to be clean, which is a crucial aspect of campground comfort and hygiene. Additionally, the camp hosts are described as friendly, suggesting a welcoming and helpful presence on-site. Friendly camp hosts can enhance the camping experience by providing assistance, information, and a sense of community.
One visitor mentioned that Hoop Lake Campground is "a little spendy for a place that has no hook-ups for campers." This highlights that the campground is a no-hookup facility, meaning there are no direct connections for water, electricity, or sewer at the individual campsites. While this is common in more rustic or remote campgrounds, the price point, in relation to the lack of these amenities and the reported maintenance issues, might be a consideration for some campers. Visitors planning to bring RVs or trailers should be aware that they will need to be self-sufficient in terms of power and water.
For local users searching for "camping near me" who appreciate beautiful lakes, good fishing, and a natural environment with plenty of trees, Hoop Lake Campground still holds appeal. The lack of phone service might be a bonus for those seeking a digital detox. However, potential visitors must be aware of the reported issues with uneven campsites, rusted fire pits, poor road conditions, and the lack of running water. The fact that it is a no-hookup campground and is considered somewhat expensive for such facilities should also factor into their decision-making process.
Before planning a trip to Hoop Lake Campground, it would be advisable to contact the managing authority (likely the Ashley National Forest, given the address format) to inquire about the current status of the water supply and any plans for addressing the maintenance issues with the campsites and roads. Additionally, confirming the current camping fees would be prudent to assess the value proposition given the described conditions and lack of hookups.
In conclusion, Hoop Lake Campground offers a picturesque setting with good fishing and hiking opportunities around a beautiful lake, surrounded by abundant trees. The absence of phone service can be a plus for those seeking a secluded natural experience. However, potential visitors should be aware of recent reports indicating neglected conditions, including uneven campsites, rusted fire pits, a poorly maintained access road, and the potential lack of running water. Additionally, it is a no-hookup campground that some visitors find a bit expensive for the amenities offered. While the bathrooms are clean and the camp hosts are friendly, a thorough understanding of the current conditions is essential for anyone considering "camping near me" at Hoop Lake Campground.

Hoop Lake Campground Reviews
Our favorite place to camp. No phone service. Good hiking and fishing. There is a good variety of fish too. A little spendy for a place that has no hook-ups for campers (in my opinion). There are two sections to camp. One straight ahead and then one off to the right. Both have access to the lake. I love all the trees.
Aug 05, 2023 · Danielle RHoop lake is beautiful and fishing is always good, however the campground has been neglected, camp spots are no longer level from years of erosion, fire pits are rusted out of the ground, and the road into the campground hasn’t been graded in years resulting in huge pit holes that you can barely get your trailer thru!! The water has been turned off ! The bathrooms are clean and the camp hosts are friendly however!
Aug 08, 2024 · Jeff MalanCaution: Sites are SMALLER than what is posted in the reservation site. Much smaller. We booked Site #2. Reservation said 85ft pull through... Our 33ft trailer couldn't fit in the horseshoe shaped spot. Majority of sites will not fit over a 20' trailer. We even witnessed people using chainsaws to gain more room. You can only imagine the stumps left behind! Camp host apologized and stated it is happening to alot of people. This campground is very tight and full of trees that there is not much room to get in and out of.We were lucky to get turned around by the boat dock. This is the size of trailer that they got in there...not sure how they will get it out.
Sep 06, 2020 · Carrie BakerWe stayed 5/27/2024. The road to the campground was like 13 miles of dirt roads that got progressively worse the closer you got. Toilets were locked and water was not on yet but it was a very peaceful and beautiful place.
May 28, 2024 · Stanton SchmidtThe campground is beautiful. The camp hosts were amazing very friendly and always taking care of the campground/campers. They always made sure the bathrooms were very clean for campers. We saw them several times outside cleaning up campsites as well. They definitely deserve a 5 star rating for their hard work and kindness. However the campsites were very small and unlevel. The road leading up to the campground was very rough and could use some work.
