Island Park Campground, located at 175 Holston Dr, Bluff City, TN 37618, offers a peaceful waterfront setting with the exceptional feature of its own private island. For local users searching under the 'camping near me' category seeking a relaxing getaway with opportunities for water activities and a strong sense of community, Island Park Campground presents a compelling option. You can reach them at (423) 534-3064 or +1 423-534-3064 to inquire about availability and make arrangements for your visit.
The environment of Island Park Campground is a significant draw, being situated "right on the water" with its own "private island." This waterfront location offers a serene and picturesque setting, perfect for relaxation and enjoying nature. The private island, complete with kayaks, a fire ring, and a picnic table, provides a unique amenity for campers to explore and enjoy exclusive waterfront activities. Imagine kayaking around your own private island, having a picnic with stunning water views, or gathering around a fire ring under the stars in this secluded setting. The presence of the Holston River and potentially surrounding bluffs, as mentioned by one reviewer who enjoys the "views of the river and the bluffs," further enhances the natural beauty of the location. The overall atmosphere is described as "quiet and peaceful," making it an ideal retreat for those seeking tranquility.
Island Park Campground offers a range of services and features that cater to both short-term campers and long-term residents, creating a unique community feel. While the owners are not on-site, they are conveniently located just five minutes away and are described as "very friendly." They request that guests "call ahead of time and they will meet you here," indicating a personalized welcome and check-in process. The campground features a "2 room bath house," which, while functional, has concrete floors that can get cold during the fall, as noted by one reviewer who recommends bringing something to stand on for insulation. The grounds are reported to be "well kept," suggesting attention to maintenance and a pleasant overall appearance. The presence of a significant number of year-round residents (approximately 60% compared to 40% regular campers) contributes to a quiet atmosphere, with "very little activity after dark" and a reported "zero crime" over a nine-month period, indicating a safe and peaceful environment.
A notable feature of Island Park Campground is the access to kayaks for exploring the waterfront and the private island. The provision of a fire ring and picnic table on the private island further enhances the opportunities for outdoor enjoyment and social gatherings in a unique setting. The combination of waterfront access and a private island sets this campground apart from many others in the area.
While the location and amenities are highly praised, the reviews also mention some limitations in terms of connectivity. The campground reportedly has a "lack of internet, cell reception (AT&T and Verizon ) and cable TV." This is an important consideration for campers who rely on these services. However, one resourceful reviewer offered a potential solution: "Get a T-Mobile WIFI hotspot and use internet TV. Problem solved on all fronts for 35 bucks a month." This suggests that while direct connectivity might be limited, there are workarounds for those who need internet access.
The pricing was mentioned by one reviewer as being "a bit on the expensive side," citing $200 for three nights in the autumn without being plugged into utilities (generating their own power). This suggests that while the location and unique features are appealing, the cost might be higher compared to other campgrounds in the area. However, another reviewer states that it is "worth the wait compared to the other parks / pricing in the tri-cities area," implying that the value derived from the location and amenities justifies the potentially higher cost.
Promotional information for Island Park Campground is evident in the consistently positive feedback regarding the location, the unique private island amenity, the friendly owners, and the peaceful atmosphere. The five-star rating for location and the description of the amenities as "matching to location and better than you'd expect" highlight the exceptional setting. The well-kept grounds and the friendly, quiet community further enhance its appeal. The recommendation to "Give Ms. Pratt a call, she's super nice and will respond" encourages direct contact with the owner and suggests a personal and welcoming interaction. The concluding remark, "Good luck trying to get in, but it's worth the wait compared to the other parks / pricing in the tri-cities area," creates a sense of exclusivity and high demand, subtly promoting the campground as a desirable destination despite potential waiting lists.
For local users searching for 'camping near me' who value a peaceful waterfront location, unique amenities like a private island with kayaks, and a friendly community atmosphere, Island Park Campground offers a distinctive experience. While it might be on the pricier side and have limitations in terms of internet and cell service, the exceptional setting, the opportunities for water activities, and the positive feedback from other campers, particularly regarding the location and the owners, make it a compelling option for a relaxing local getaway.
To make the most of your stay at Island Park Campground, local users may want to consider the following:
- Call Ahead for Reservations: As mentioned in the reviews, it's essential to call Ms. Pratt ahead of time to arrange your arrival and check availability, especially given the potential for high demand.
- Plan for Connectivity: Be aware of the limited internet and cell service. If these are crucial for you, consider bringing a T-Mobile hotspot or making arrangements for offline activities and communication.
- Prepare for Cooler Weather: If camping during the fall or cooler months, remember to bring something to stand on in the bathhouse to insulate your feet from the cold concrete floors.
- Inquire About Pricing and Amenities: Confirm the current pricing and what is included (e.g., utilities if needed) when you call to make your reservation.
- Bring Water Activity Gear: Take advantage of the waterfront location and the provided kayaks to explore the Holston River and the private island.
Island Park Campground offers a unique and tranquil waterfront camping experience with the exceptional amenity of a private island. The positive reviews highlight the stunning location, the friendly owners, and the peaceful community. For local users seeking a 'camping near me' destination that goes beyond the ordinary and offers a chance to connect with nature in a serene setting, Island Park Campground is definitely worth the effort to book a stay.

Island Park Campground Reviews
Owners not on site, but only 5 minutes away and very friendly, just call ahead of time and they will meet you here. Quiet and peaceful, very relaxing. Bit on the expensive side, $200 for 3 nights (autumn) and I'm not even plugged in (I generate my own power). Right on the water with their own private island, complete with kayaks, fire ring and picnic table. 2 room bath house, concrete floors are cold during fall, so bring something to stand on to keep from freezing your feet. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars.
Oct 09, 2022 · Thomas Jordi5 stars for location, amenities are matching to location and better than you'd expect, grounds are well kept, people are friendly and quiet as well as it's about 60/40 year round residents to regular campers, so there's very little activity after dark and there has been zero crime in my 9 months of enjoying the views of the river and the bluffs. The only negative thing one could complain about is the lack of internet, cell reception ( AT&T and Verizon ) and cable TV.Get a T-Mobile WIFI hotspot and use internet TV. Problem solved on all fronts for 35 bucks a month.P.S. Good luck trying to get in, but it's worth the wait compared to the other parks / pricing in the tri-cities area. Give Ms. Pratt a call, she's super nice and will respond.
