Kimpels Hickory Acres Introduce
For those in the Northwest Ohio region searching for exceptional "camping near me," Kimpels Hickory Acres, located at 1240 Ridenour Rd, Edgerton, OH 43517, USA, offers a compelling option. This expansive campground boasts a variety of features and amenities, making it a noteworthy destination for both short-term visits and seasonal stays. While one review mentions a $50 fee for a full hook-up pull-through site without discounts, highlighting a potentially higher price point, the overall sentiment from other campers suggests a positive experience characterized by excellent staff, a wonderful location, and well-maintained facilities.
As a significant player in the "camping near me" category for the area, Kimpels Hickory Acres stands out due to its size and the range of amenities it offers. The mention of a "waterslide +" indicates a family-friendly environment with recreational features beyond the standard camping experience. This suggests that during the summer months, the campground could indeed be quite lively and offer a fun-filled atmosphere for children and adults alike, aligning with the reviewer's comment, "Must be wild in the summertime."
One of the consistent praises for Kimpels Hickory Acres is the quality of its staff. A camper explicitly stated, "The staff is terrific," underscoring a commitment to customer service that can significantly enhance the overall camping experience. Friendly and helpful staff can make a real difference in ensuring guests feel welcome and well-cared for throughout their stay. Coupled with a "wonderful location," as also noted by a reviewer, Kimpels Hickory Acres appears to offer a pleasant and accessible setting for campers.
In terms of campsite features, Kimpels Hickory Acres offers "all full hook up" sites, a significant advantage for RV campers who require water, sewer, and electrical connections. Additionally, many of these sites are "pull through," making setup and departure much easier, especially for larger RVs. Campers have also noted that the sites are "well maintained" and "decently level," contributing to a comfortable and hassle-free camping experience. The sites also offer a "good view of the lake," adding to the scenic appeal of the campground. It's important to note, however, that a reviewer mentioned, "There are no trees on these sites," which might be a consideration for campers seeking shade, particularly during the peak summer months. This lack of trees, however, is presented as a benefit for "spring and fall camping," which are described as the reviewer's "favorite time to camp," suggesting that the open sites are advantageous during cooler seasons.
The cleanliness and maintenance of the facilities at Kimpels Hickory Acres receive high marks. One reviewer specifically praised the "bathrooms," describing them as "very clean and well taken care of." The absence of trash and unpleasant odors is highlighted as a testament to both the campground's management and its clientele. Clean and well-maintained restrooms are a crucial aspect of any campground, and the positive feedback in this area indicates a commitment to providing a comfortable and sanitary environment for guests.
For those interested in fishing, Kimpels Hickory Acres features a lake. While one reviewer reported not having any luck catching fish, they did note that the lake is "full of fish," evidenced by the numerous encounters while swimming with children. This suggests that while fishing success might vary, the lake provides an opportunity for aquatic activities and wildlife observation.
Prospective visitors should be aware of a topographical feature mentioned in one of the reviews: a "large valley you have to go down and then back up (about a 7% grade)." While this might seem imposing, the reviewer, who pulled a 30-foot travel trailer with a rear-wheel-drive Durango, reassured that their vehicle "made it up just fine." This information is helpful for those towing trailers or driving larger vehicles, suggesting that while the incline exists, it is manageable for typical camping setups.
Regarding the availability of campsites, a reviewer noted, "There aren't that many weekend sites, as most of this place is seasonal." This indicates that Kimpels Hickory Acres caters significantly to seasonal campers, which can create a strong sense of community but might limit the number of sites available for short weekend stays. However, the same reviewer also mentioned, "That being said, I haven't had an issue with getting a reservation," suggesting that with advance planning, weekend stays are still possible.
While specific promotional information was not provided in the reviews, campgrounds often offer various discounts for seasonal stays, extended stays, or during off-peak seasons like spring and fall, which were highlighted as favorable camping times at Kimpels Hickory Acres. In conclusion, Kimpels Hickory Acres offers a large campground with full hook-up, pull-through sites, a lake, clean facilities, and even a waterslide, making it a noteworthy option for "camping near me" in Northwest Ohio. While the pricing for short stays might be on the higher side, the positive feedback regarding the staff, location, and maintenance, along with the recreational opportunities, suggests a worthwhile camping experience, particularly during the spring and fall seasons. Kimpels Hickory Acres Reviews
Expensive, FU pull thru $50 no discounts. Big, Very big, has waterslide +. Must be wild in the summertime.
Oct 04, 2024 · Joanne LoydI've enjoyed this place since we've started camping. The staff is terrific, and the location is wonderful. The sites are all full hook up, and many of them are pull through. They are well maintained, decently level, and have a good view of the lake. There aren't that many weekend sites, as most of this place is seasonal. That being said, I haven't had an issue with getting a reservation. There are no trees on these sites. That being said, this is great place for spring and fall camping. Which also happens to be my favorite time to camp.Bathrooms are very clean and well taken care of. That's all I need to say. No trash, no smells, just a good clean facility. It's a testament to their clientele.I've gone fishing in the lake and haven't had any luck, although it is full of fish. When I would go and play with our kids in the lake, I'd always have a fish bumping into me constantly. It was pretty funny.Be aware that there is a large valley you have to go down and then back up (about a 7% grade according to my car). I wouldn't worry too much. We pull a 30 foot travel trailer with a RWD Durango, and it made it up just fine. It just looks imposing.
May 20, 2023 · Caleb WeberAbsolutely exceeded expectations! Stayed in Cabin 1. This is not just a cabin, its truly as good (if not better than) a VRBO. It was very clean, nice size, and well equipped. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. The playground is honestly the best one I've ever seen at a campground. My kids were in heaven. The pond for swimming fishing, and playing was well maintained, and the entire family enjoyed it. We visited the waterpark on site for 2 of the days, and it was such a relaxing time. Not the biggest around, but it is so well maintained and secure a parent can let their guard down for a bit and let the kids enjoy themselves. Every staff member was considerate and accommodating. Thank you for an amazing get away!!!
Aug 04, 2022 · Stacy ClarkWe went on a spur of the moment trip with our littles and this was by far the best trip. They had such a blast and we are thinking of making this our yearly family trip. We hope to be able to stay longer so that they can have more fun. Very friendly staff and also very clean and quiet!!!
Jun 14, 2022 · Kimberly ShopeEnjoyed our stay ... 8 kids aged 3 to 17 really enjoyed the water park. Owner Chris is a nice person and willing to help with any problems. I saw that they had several events planned thru the season.
