Pope Haven Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" that offers a blend of relaxation and cultural exploration, Pope Haven Campground, located at 11948 Pope Rd in Randolph, NY, provides an interesting option. Situated in an area that allows visitors to "experience the Amish trail," this campground offers more than just a place to stay; it provides an opportunity to explore the local Amish community with its various stores and homes, a feature that one visitor found enjoyable even though it wasn't their initial expectation.
The environment of Pope Haven Campground is described as "fine," with the grounds being "clean" and the campsites spaced "enough apart," suggesting a comfortable and not overly crowded setting. The campground seems to cater primarily to seasonal campers, with a designated area for travelers. This mix could contribute to a friendly community atmosphere while still accommodating those just passing through or visiting for a shorter duration.
In terms of features and services, Pope Haven Campground offers both RV sites with "full hook up" and cabins. One reviewer who stayed in a cabin noted that they were "clean," although one cabin had a sticking door that didn't cause significant issues. The availability of full hookups for RVs is a significant amenity for those traveling with recreational vehicles, providing water, electricity, and sewer connections at the site.
Recreational activities at Pope Haven Campground include "swimming" and "fishing," as mentioned by a guest who had a "great time" with their family. They also participated in a "corn hole tournament," indicating that the campground may organize or facilitate social activities for its guests, enhancing the family-friendly experience.
Safety within the campground appears to be a priority, as the "5 mph" speed limit was reported to be "strictly enforced," which made one reviewer feel comfortable with their "kids running around." This emphasis on low speeds contributes to a safer environment for pedestrians, especially children.
However, some areas for potential improvement were noted by one visitor. While the speed limit for vehicles is 5 mph, they observed that golf carts were often driven much faster, sometimes cutting through the grass to avoid ruts in the road, and that even staff members were seen breaking this rule. Additionally, the speed bumps present on the roads were reported to be "a surprise" as they were not marked, which could be unexpected for drivers unfamiliar with the campground.
Another issue encountered by a guest involved groundskeeping. After they set up camp, local Amish boys trimmed the area, and inadvertently "trimmed a hole" in the camper's hose. This damage was not discovered until the guest arrived at their next destination six hours away. The presence of grass clippings on both the water and sewer hoses served as evidence. This incident suggests a need for more caution during grounds maintenance activities near occupied campsites.
Furthermore, the same reviewer experienced an issue with the sewer hookup at their site, noting that it was "too high" to allow for proper dumping without manually lifting the hose for gravity assistance. This is a practical inconvenience for RV users that could vary from site to site.
Despite these shortcomings, the overall sentiment from the reviews is that Pope Haven Campground is "fine" and "safe," with one family reporting they "had a great time." The opportunity to explore the Amish trail adds a unique dimension to a stay here, appealing to those interested in local culture and handcrafted goods. The cleanliness of the campground and cabins, along with the availability of amenities like full RV hookups, swimming, and fishing, contribute to its appeal as a "camping near me" option for families and travelers.
In conclusion, Pope Haven Campground in Randolph, NY, offers a clean and reasonably spacious camping environment with the added benefit of being located near the Amish trail. It provides RV sites with full hookups and clean cabins, as well as recreational activities like swimming and fishing. The strictly enforced 5 mph speed limit enhances safety within the campground. However, potential guests should be aware of unmarked speed bumps and the possibility of faster-moving golf carts. While generally "fine" and "safe," some campers have experienced minor inconveniences such as high sewer hookups and accidental damage during groundskeeping. For local users looking for a campground that combines a pleasant camping experience with the opportunity to explore the Amish culture, Pope Haven Campground is worth considering.

Pope Haven Campground Reviews
A great place to unwind and experience the Amish trail. Didn’t realize this is what we were coming to when we arrived but enjoyed deiving to the different Amish stores / homes. As for the campground, it was fine. Place is clean and spaced enough apart. This is mostly seasonal campers with some travelers in one area. Speed limit is 5 mph (which is fine) but golf carts are seen to go much faster and cut through the grass to avoid ruts in road (even staff breaks this rule). Speed bumps a plenty but they are a surprise when you hit one as they are not marked. After we arrived and set camp, the area was trimmed by local Amish boys who ended up trimming a hole in my hose (didn’t discover until I arrived at my next campground 6 hours away but there was grass clippings on my hose and sewer hose). Also, sewer is to high as i could not dump without disconnecting my hose in the air for gravity assist. Overall it was fine and safe, but not perfect.
Aug 04, 2024 · Kevin R.Had a great time this weekend at Popehaven with the family. Swimming, fishing and corn hole tournament. Cabins were clean, but the door on one of them was sticking but not enough to cause any problems. RV sites were full hook up and worked out great. Everyone was friendly. Didn't worry about the kids running around as 5mph was strictly enforced.
Jul 23, 2024 · Barbara KrauseVery muddy campground. Has 50amp hookups. Driving through campground was not fun. Muddy with tight squeezes between tree and very tall hills. Appears run down. Long term RVs that are obviously falling apart/not on working conditions. Location itself is a good ways from anything including main roads in area.I was by myself so had no issue staying. However wouldn't have felt comfortable having kids there. (Not that they would want to spend time outside RV if we're there anyway)
Nov 18, 2023 · Wayne CaffeyMe and my family have been camping here for years. I wanted to say, for a lot of the bad reviews, they were under past ownership. I've worked with the current owners for a few years and they're nice people. The campground is incredibly enjoyable and they're always adding new stuff every summer. Of course no place is perfect, but for a small team, they're doing pretty good. On top of this, I know several of the seasonals and they are always kind and willing to help.
Jun 12, 2023 · Sliced BreadWe stayed here over the three day Memorial Day holiday. We'd been traveling for about a month and made our reservations a week ahead. The campground was so crowded. It appeared that they let anyone stay in any spot despite the size of their camper. The sites were very rustic and far from level. The water pressure was so low that we could barely wash our hands-forget about taking a shower. There were many families there with children who seemed to have a great time. We would not recommend this campground. It needs a lot of work. Can't understand how Good Sam gave it such high marks. That will make me reconsider using Good Sam.
