Highbanks Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a diverse range of lodging options within the 'camping near me' category, Highbanks Campground, located at 1370 W Bank Perimeter Rd, Steamburg, NY 14783, USA, presents an interesting choice. Situated near the Allegany Reservoir, this campground offers both traditional campsites and a variety of cabins, catering to different preferences and needs. Reviews from recent visitors highlight both positive aspects, such as friendly staff and beautiful views, and some areas for potential improvement, particularly concerning the cabins. This introduction aims to provide a balanced overview for local users considering a stay at Highbanks Campground.
The environment surrounding Highbanks Campground is a significant asset. Its location near the Allegany Reservoir suggests access to waterfront activities and scenic views of the river and potentially surrounding mountains, as mentioned by one reviewer. The presence of a boat ramp at the campground is a notable feature, making it particularly appealing for those who enjoy boating, fishing, or other water-based recreation on the reservoir. The natural landscape of the area likely includes wooded areas and the expansive waters of the reservoir, offering a picturesque backdrop for a relaxing getaway. Getting a cabin by the edge for a nice view of the river and mountains is specifically recommended by a satisfied guest, indicating that the location leverages the scenic beauty of the area.
In terms of services, Highbanks Campground appears to prioritize customer service. One reviewer praised the "Great staff and friendly service," recounting a positive experience upon arrival after the office was closed, with staff going out of their way to assist and provide information about the area. The delivery of firewood directly to the campsite also highlights the accommodating nature of the staff. Additionally, the cleanliness of the cabins upon arrival and the relatively clean showers were noted as positives. The availability of cabins ranging from "rustic to fully equipped" is a significant feature, offering options for different levels of comfort and amenities. Local users should inquire about the specific features of each cabin type when making a reservation to ensure it meets their needs.
However, some reviews also point out potential drawbacks, particularly concerning the cabins. One reviewer mentioned issues with cabin 20, including mattresses not being on bed frames (just placed on the floor, hanging over the sides of heavy steel frames with four twin beds), and inconsistent water pressure, which at one point reduced to a mere drip. This inconsistency in water pressure could be a significant inconvenience, especially for those relying on showers. Furthermore, a major security concern was raised regarding the lack of functioning locks on the cabin doors. The reviewer noted that their cabin was unlocked upon arrival and could not be locked, forcing them to improvise with a croquet stick for security, especially concerning for female members of their group. This is a serious issue that potential guests should be aware of and address with the management before or upon arrival.
Despite these issues with some of the cabins, the campground itself seems to offer a pleasant environment and helpful staff. The spaciousness of the cabins (appearing larger than expected from the outside) is a plus for those choosing this type of accommodation. The fact that one reviewer considers Highbanks Campground "one of my favorite Campgrounds I've ever stayed in" suggests that the positive aspects, such as the location and staff, can outweigh the shortcomings of some of the cabin amenities. However, it is crucial for local users to be aware of the potential for issues like inconsistent water pressure and non-functional locks, and to inquire specifically about the condition and security features of their chosen cabin.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. Local users interested in staying at Highbanks Campground should contact the provided phone numbers, (877) 764-2267 or +1 877-764-2267, to inquire about current rates, availability, and any potential seasonal discounts or special offers. Given the range of cabins (from rustic to fully equipped) and campsites, pricing is likely to vary, and it's important to get detailed information based on specific needs and preferences. Asking about the specific amenities included in each type of cabin and campsite will also help in making an informed decision.
The location in Steamburg, NY, places Highbanks Campground in the vicinity of the Allegany Reservoir, which is part of the Allegheny National Recreation Area. This area offers numerous opportunities for outdoor activities beyond the campground itself, such as hiking, fishing, and exploring the natural beauty of the region. The campground's boat ramp further enhances its appeal for those looking to enjoy the reservoir directly. Local users might find it beneficial to research the Allegany National Recreation Area for additional attractions and activities in the vicinity of Highbanks Campground.
In conclusion, Highbanks Campground offers a potentially enjoyable stay for local users, with friendly staff, scenic views of the Allegany Reservoir, and a boat ramp as key features. The availability of both campsites and a range of cabins provides options for different camping styles. However, potential guests, particularly those considering cabin rentals, should be aware of reported issues such as inconsistent water pressure and non-functional locks in some cabins. It is highly recommended to inquire specifically about the condition and amenities of the chosen accommodation when booking. Despite these concerns, the positive feedback regarding the staff and overall location suggests that Highbanks Campground can be a favorable option for a local outdoor getaway, especially for those looking to enjoy the Allegany Reservoir.

Highbanks Campground Reviews
Good place cabin could definitely be great. Very clean when walking in (but a friend's family in the cabin next door had a BIG/SMALL 😉 PROBLEM), bathroom surprisingly big (for a cabin) we had 4 twin beds MATTRESS not on twin bed frames, the mattress hung over the side (are group had 6 cabins and this appear to be an issue in cabin 20 BUT on the plus the bed frames were made of heavy steel) HUGE ISSUE he had was water pressure was very inconsistent. I was their for an event were the main reason we stayed here was a shower and was very lucky we had water pressure because that night when we got back it was literally a drip coming out the shower head and the other issue LOCK. Your cabin isn't locked when u get there and u can't lock your cabin. We had a croquet set with us so we could use the stick at night in the sliding door. We had young ladies in are group that had no way to lock their cabin at night. we were there for 4 days and for an event so we had to leave the camp grounds. we had some expensive things with us but had equipment that us had to risk it.
Oct 01, 2024 · Dwight HI loved staying here. The Campground had Great staff and friendly service. They helped me right away when I showed up after the office was closed. Brought fire wood to my site and were very accommodating and informative of the area. The cabin was clean and more spacious than they looked and they keep the showers pretty clean. The views are awesome and there is a boat ramp located at the campground. The cabins range from rustic to fully equipped and there are quite a few to choose from. By far one of my favorite Campgrounds I've ever stayed in. Get a cabin by the edge for a nice view of the river and mountains.
Jul 26, 2023 · Amber WestwoodGreat family getaway. Everyone has been very friendly and welcoming place is unlike any other We got lucky sitting at the river. This is what our camera picked up. Happy camping. We definitely will be back.
Aug 12, 2024 · JACKLYNN VOnly two issues. 1. The computer messed up or there was an office error with a rezzo, but they immediately called when they found out and were ready to deal with it however, and they not only got us another cabin, bit an UPGRADE! THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS WAS MY FIRST EVER VACATION, EVER. WITH A FAMILY. Problem 2. At night there were some CRAZY large bee/wasp trio flying around...they were as large as my thumb. I will include a photo if I can. Seriously. These things are (expletive deleted) huge. No one's really here at this time so it's kinda...dead giving it the perfect spooky feel. I love it here.
Sep 08, 2023 · Jesse ProfotaNot all sites are the same. They have sites for RV's and campers, tents, "rustic" cabins (means NO BATHROOM inside of those cabins), and luxury cabins. There's multiple restrooms with showers for those who like the more rustic conditions. There's a swimming pool with lifeguards. There's a play area with a volleyball court for the kids. They have a small convenience store inside the registration office (office is not open all the time). We stayed in the luxury cabin which has been beautifully remodeled and is handicapped accessible! With air conditioning. There's a ramp for the entrance and an accessible shower. And wow, no worry about the hot water as there was plenty. My only concern was the loft: there was no way I could go up & down the very narrow stairs, especially at night to go to the bathroom. Luckily I knew that ahead of time and brought an air mattress with me. The luxury cabin has full size appliances. This campground is immaculate. They have cleaners come to sanitize after you leave, as well as picking up trash around your site (don't be a jerk and litter, though). It goes to show how much they love their land and are proud of it. They also have security patrolling the grounds. Bring bug spray and lots of sunscreen. Bird lovers should bring binoculars as there's bald eagles in the area.
