Barton Cabins Introduce
For local users seeking a rustic and nature-focused 'camping near me' experience, Barton Cabins located at Weller Cabin Trail, Salamanca, NY 14779, USA, offers a step back to basics within the scenic surroundings of Allegany State Park (ASP). While specific contact information like a phone number is not provided in the available details, the location suggests a gateway to outdoor adventures and a more traditional camping feel.
Based on feedback from recent visitors, Barton Cabins provides a no-frills accommodation option for those looking to immerse themselves in the natural environment. It's important to note that at least some, if not all, of the cabins, such as cabin number 4 on the Barton Trail, are non-electric. These cabins are equipped with essential amenities for a comfortable, albeit basic, stay, including a small propane stove for cooking and a wood stove for heating. They also feature multiple beds, with cabin 4 specifically mentioned as having four beds, making it suitable for families or small groups.
The primary appeal of Barton Cabins lies in its location within Allegany State Park, which offers a wealth of outdoor activities. The reviews highlight the exceptional access to hiking trails, with one long-time visitor mentioning frequent hikes in the area since childhood. Notable trails include a portion of the Bear Caves Trail and the Sweet Water Trail, which is described as a particularly favorable trail for solo hikes. This proximity to extensive trail systems makes Barton Cabins an excellent choice for hikers and nature enthusiasts looking for 'camping near me' with readily available opportunities for exploration.
One reviewer who stayed at Barton Cabins for a week with two children and two dogs emphasized the great and private location of the cabins. This suggests that while the cabins themselves might be basic, the setting offers a degree of seclusion and immersion in nature that many campers appreciate. The pet-friendly aspect, as indicated by the presence of dogs during their stay, is also a potential draw for those who like to travel with their furry companions. However, it's always advisable to confirm the specific pet policies and any associated fees directly with the management.
While the experience was overall positive for the reviewer who stayed in cabin 4, they did note a few practical considerations. The check-in time of 3 PM was mentioned as potentially late in the season for non-electric cabins, as daylight hours become shorter, making setup more challenging. This is a valuable piece of information for future guests to consider when planning their arrival, especially during the late fall or early spring.
Another crucial piece of feedback concerned the availability of firewood for the wood stoves. The reviewer noted that they were not informed about the option to buy firewood in quantity upon check-in, which would have been helpful for their week-long stay. This suggests that while wood stoves are provided for heating, guests should inquire about firewood purchasing options and potentially plan accordingly, especially for longer stays or during colder periods when wood consumption might be higher. The reviewer did mention that "wood gets expensive," indicating that firewood is an additional cost to factor into the overall camping budget.
In terms of the cabin itself, the reviewer described it as "nothing special" but "just fine for sleeping in," especially in comparison to tent camping. However, they did mention an issue with the door handle falling off multiple times, which was an annoyance. This suggests that while the cabins provide basic shelter, guests should be prepared for potentially rustic conditions and minor maintenance issues. It's a trade-off for the location and the opportunity for a more traditional camping experience.
Beyond the immediate vicinity of the cabins and the hiking trails, the reviewer also mentioned nearby attractions within Allegany State Park that might be of interest to guests staying at Barton Cabins. These include the Red House area, where the kids enjoyed looking at merchandise and taxidermy animals, Thunder Rocks, Science Lake, and a playground located near the Quaker General Store and rental office. The creek near the rental office was also a hit with the children. This indicates that while the cabins themselves are basic, their location provides access to a range of family-friendly activities and natural landmarks within the park.
The reviewer's reflection on their stay suggests that for future visits with children and dogs, they would likely opt for an electric cabin. This highlights the convenience that electricity can provide, especially for families needing to power lights, charge devices, or use appliances. The fact that electric cabins are available at Allegany State Park offers an alternative for those who prefer more amenities.
In conclusion, Barton Cabins offer a rustic and private 'camping near me' experience for those looking to explore the natural beauty of Allegany State Park and its extensive hiking trails. The non-electric cabins provide basic shelter with propane and wood stoves, and multiple beds. While guests should be prepared for potentially basic conditions and inquire about firewood options, the location offers excellent access to outdoor activities and a sense of seclusion. Families with children and pet owners may find the spaciousness and proximity to attractions appealing. For those who value a more traditional and less amenity-driven camping experience, Barton Cabins could be a suitable choice. However, potential guests should consider the non-electric nature of some cabins and plan accordingly for lighting and power needs. Further research into booking procedures and specific cabin amenities through Allegany State Park's official channels is recommended to ensure a well-prepared and enjoyable stay.

Barton Cabins Reviews
Check in time at 3 is a little difficult late in the season for cabins without electricity as daylight is nearly gone to set up. Also, upon check in, nobody told us that we could buy firewood in quantity, also extremely helpful information late in the season.
Oct 25, 2024 · Amanda FaraciThe location was great and private! The cabin itself was nothing special and had a small propane stove inside along with a wood stove and 4 beds. It was a non electric cabin. The door handle fell off a bunch of times also, so that was annoying. We stayed for a week with 2 kids and 2 dogs. Wood gets expensive, but it was still a great experience and our first time camping there! I've come here since I was a small child, I hike here often. We hiked part of the bear caves trail and all of the sweet water trail, which is my most favorable trail to hike solo. We stopped by Red House a couple of times as the kids love looking at all the merch and the taxidermy animals. We went to Thunder Rocks, Science Lake, and the playground just down from the quaker General Store and rental office. The kids love to play in the Creek there! Next time, I'd probably go for an electric cabin if we take the kids and dogs again! We stayed at cabin 4 on the barton trail. Some reviews weren't so great, but overall, the cabin was just fine for sleeping in, I'm used to tent camping, so I was happy with it for the price! We left a bunch of painted rocks there, I hope that's ok! Thanks for the memories ASP!! We'll be back soon!
Aug 06, 2024 · Kelsey ButcherJust came back from a week stay in Allegany. We were on Barton and while the cabins are definitely quite old, they were newly painted and felt relatively clean. The naturalist programs thru Camp Allegany were fantastic. Highly recommend for both kids and adults. Mr. Tom, Ms. Adele, and Miss Haley were so knowledgeable and fun for the kids. They did an excellent job of explaining things to the kids but also educating the adults. The ice cream shop on Quaker is a must but be sure to order small! Even the baby size is crazy big. Bridal falls is beautiful and the bear caves were a great hike. And you can't go to Allegany without going to Thunder Rocks. There is a picture in the Administration building on Red House that has a lot of info about Thunder Rocks that is worth checking out before you go. The bathrooms, well, like most state park bathrooms, spend as little time there as you can. But right after they were cleaned, they were spotless! Overall, it was a fantastic trip and a great place for a family trip.
Aug 23, 2020 · Carrie ThielFun place to camp with the family. Cabins are clean. Bathrooms could use some updating in Barton. But you can always drive down to the shower house right down the street. But otherwise a beautiful place to go!!
Sep 06, 2020 · Mary LavtarI am city dweller and I need my creature comforts the cabin I stayed I. With friends didn't have electricity or indoor plumbing if you enjoy going back to basics and getting in touch with nature it's great.
