Anderson Cabins

Anderson Trail, Salamanca, NY 14779, USA

Would give full stars if not for the mice. Three or four of them getting in through a small hole in the floor where the heating pipe goes through. Woke up to mouse poop all over the stove/counter/etc and the sounds of them scampering around kept us awake. Not really the park's fault though - just be prepared with plastic bins to store food and cleaning supplies to sanitize your cooking surfaces.Otherwise, lovely cabin. Nice pine interior with full size fridge and stove. Cots weren't too uncomfortable. A lot of these cabins on this loop are too close together, so I'd recommend renting number 17 or 16 at the end of the loop to be more secluded. You're more far from the bathrooms this way though. - Abram Fitzsimmons

Anderson Cabins Introduce

For local residents searching within the "camping near me" category in the Salamanca, New York region, Anderson Cabins, located on Anderson Trail within Allegany State Park (address typically associated with the park, Salamanca, NY 14779, USA), offers a potentially quiet and nature-filled camping cabin experience. While the reviews highlight some important considerations, particularly regarding wildlife and accessibility for certain cabins, Anderson Cabins and the surrounding "loop" appear to be a favored alternative for those familiar with the park.

The environment of the Anderson Cabins loop is described as "a quiet area with lots of nature and great birds!" This suggests a peaceful and serene setting, ideal for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Allegheny State Park. The abundance of birdlife indicates a healthy and thriving ecosystem, which could be particularly appealing to bird watchers and nature enthusiasts. The overall atmosphere seems to be more tranquil compared to other areas within the park, making it a potential haven for those seeking a more secluded retreat.

In terms of cabin features, the reviews mention that the cabins have a "nice pine interior" and are equipped with practical amenities such as a "full-size fridge and stove," allowing guests to prepare their own meals conveniently. The sleeping arrangements in at least some cabins consist of "cots" which, while described as "not too uncomfortable," might be a consideration for those with specific comfort preferences. The cabins also offer a basic level of comfort and functionality for a camping experience within a more structured setting than traditional tent camping.

However, a significant issue raised in one of the reviews is the presence of mice within the cabins. The reviewer reported "three or four of them getting in through a small hole in the floor where the heating pipe goes through" and finding "mouse poop all over the stove/counter/etc." The sounds of mice scampering around also reportedly kept them awake. While the reviewer acknowledged that this might not be the park's direct fault, they strongly advised future guests to "be prepared with plastic bins to store food and cleaning supplies to sanitize your cooking surfaces." This is a crucial piece of information for potential renters to consider and plan for accordingly.

Another aspect to consider when choosing an Anderson Cabin is the proximity of the cabins to each other. One reviewer noted that "a lot of these cabins on this loop are too close together," which could impact the sense of privacy for some guests. To mitigate this, they recommended "renting number 17 or 16 at the end of the loop to be more secluded." However, this increased seclusion comes with a trade-off, as these cabins are "more far from the bathrooms." This highlights the importance of considering individual preferences regarding privacy versus convenience of accessing shared facilities when selecting a specific cabin within the Anderson loop.

Accessibility is another significant factor highlighted in the reviews, particularly concerning cabin number 5. This cabin is described as "TERRIBLE for access" due to a "very steep front yard area and no driveway to walk up either." The reviewer recounted that "the mornings until close to noon getting up or down from the cabin was treacherous for sure" due to slipperiness, and even when dry, it remained a challenge for elderly family members. While the reviewer noted that "most of the others with hills at least had driveways," this experience underscores the need to inquire specifically about the terrain and accessibility of individual cabins within the Anderson loop, especially for guests with mobility concerns.

Despite these drawbacks, the overall sentiment towards the Anderson loop remains positive for some. One reviewer mentioned that they "really loved the Anderson ‘loop’, unexpectedly" as a plan B when their usual Beehunter cabin was fully booked. They appreciated the quiet atmosphere, abundant nature, and excellent bird watching opportunities. They also noted the variety in cabin sizes and capacities, with the "upper ones" offering "great views" but "mostly not so great yard areas." This suggests that different cabins within the loop might offer varying advantages and disadvantages depending on individual priorities.

Finally, one reviewer pointed out that the Anderson loop is "not as easy walk to the beach and other areas as Beehunter is." This implies that while the Anderson area offers a quieter and more nature-focused experience, it might require a bit more travel to access some of the main recreational facilities within Allegany State Park, such as the beach or other central activity hubs.

Promotional information is not provided within the reviews. Local users interested in booking an Anderson Cabin should contact the Allegany State Park administration or the relevant booking platform to inquire about availability, pricing, specific features of individual cabins (including accessibility), and any potential discounts or special offers for local residents or off-season stays. Given the varying characteristics of the cabins within the Anderson loop, it would be beneficial to ask detailed questions about the specific cabin being considered to ensure it meets your needs and preferences, particularly regarding potential wildlife issues and accessibility.

In conclusion, Anderson Cabins in Allegheny State Park offer a quieter and more nature-oriented "camping near me" option in Salamanca, NY. The loop is appreciated for its tranquility, bird watching, and variety of cabin sizes. However, potential guests should be aware of the reported issue with mice and carefully consider the location and accessibility of individual cabins, with numbers 16 and 17 recommended for more seclusion but being further from bathrooms, and cabin 5 noted for significant accessibility challenges. The distance to main park facilities like the beach might also be a factor for some. Despite these considerations, the Anderson loop appears to be a liked alternative for those seeking a peaceful retreat within the park. Direct contact with the park or booking agency is recommended to obtain specific cabin details and booking information.
