Taft Cabin Introduce
For local users searching within the "camping near me" category in the Salamanca, New York area, Taft Cabin offers a unique camping cabin experience nestled within a beautiful location. While the exact address isn't specified beyond Salamanca, NY 14779, the reviews provide valuable insights into its environment, features, and important considerations for potential guests. Based on customer feedback, Taft Cabin presents a blend of rustic charm and convenient amenities, making it a noteworthy option for those seeking a local outdoor retreat.
The environment surrounding Taft Cabin is clearly a major draw, with one reviewer stating, "I love the cabin, & the location." Situated near Allegany State Park, it likely offers access to stunning natural landscapes, including forests, hills, and potentially nearby lakes or streams. The presence of multi-use trails directly accessible from the site further enhances its appeal for outdoor enthusiasts. Specifically, there is a "dirt & grass horse trail that people hike" with a trailhead visible across from the front porch. Additionally, another trail exists beyond a "Road Closed" sign at the rear of the cabin. These trails provide ample opportunities for hiking and potentially horseback riding, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region.
However, the easy access to these trails comes with a significant consideration: traffic. The signage at the end of the driveway for the multi-use trail attracts "lots of cars pulling in to check it out, as well as bicycles & hikers." One reviewer even experienced someone parking their car in their site to hike the trail. Therefore, local users seeking a high degree of privacy might find the level of foot and vehicle traffic around Taft Cabin to be a drawback. For those who don't mind having people around their cabin and site, the beautiful location might outweigh this factor. The reviewer who noted the traffic suggested considering other cabins in the area, such as McIntosh 40 in Red House or shorter trails in Quaker, for a more private experience within Allegany State Park.
Despite the traffic, the cabin itself appears to be well-regarded. One long-time camper described it as "by far the most unique one I’ve ever stayed at." Taft Cabin offers several notable features for a comfortable stay. It includes an "indoor flush toilet & running cold water," which is a significant convenience compared to more rustic camping options. The cabin also comprises "2 bedrooms, kitchen, and large main room," providing ample space for families or small groups. The presence of a kitchen allows for meal preparation, enhancing the self-sufficiency of a cabin stay. Additionally, there is a "screen room" on the front porch, offering a pleasant space to relax outdoors while being protected from insects.
However, there are a couple of interior considerations to note. The windows do not have drapes, so guests are advised to "bring your own" if they desire more privacy or light control. There is also a "high step into the cabin off the front porch," which might be a factor for individuals with mobility issues. One long-time camper mentioned missing a gas stove, indicating that the kitchen might have an electric stove or a different type of cooking arrangement.
The outdoor space includes "beautiful front and side porches," providing additional areas for relaxation and enjoying the surroundings. The screened area on the front porch is a particularly valuable feature. However, for pet owners, there is a crucial safety concern regarding the front porch. One reviewer cautioned that "some of the boards on the stairs & deck have separations that their claws could get stuck between." They even had an incident where their dog almost broke a nail and had to use duct tape to secure the loose boards. Therefore, guests bringing dogs are strongly advised to take precautions, such as bringing throw rugs or duct tape, to ensure their pet's safety on the porch.
In terms of the immediate surroundings, one reviewer mentioned hearing neighbors "next door on Stony and across the road on Kaiser," but noted that it "wasn’t bad." This suggests that while the cabin isn't completely isolated, the noise level from neighboring cabins was not overly disruptive during their stay.
Promotional information is not provided in the reviews. Local users interested in Taft Cabin would need to contact the relevant booking agency or the Allegany State Park administration directly to inquire about availability, pricing, and any potential discounts or special offers, especially for local residents or off-season stays. Given the positive feedback regarding the cabin itself and its unique character, it is likely a popular choice, so early booking might be advisable, particularly during peak seasons like the Labor Day week mentioned in one of the reviews.
In conclusion, Taft Cabin in Salamanca, NY, offers a unique and appealing camping cabin experience for those searching for "camping near me" in the Allegany State Park area. Its beautiful location with direct access to multi-use trails and features like an indoor toilet, cold running water, a kitchen, and a screened porch make it a comfortable and convenient option for families and groups. However, potential guests should be aware of the potential for traffic due to the nearby trail access and take necessary precautions if bringing pets due to the porch structure. Despite these considerations, the positive reviews highlight the cabin's charm and the beauty of its surroundings, making it a worthwhile option for a local outdoor adventure. Contacting the park or booking agency directly will provide the necessary details on availability and pricing.

Taft Cabin Reviews
Stayed here Labor Day week 2024. I love the cabin, & the location. But be prepared for all the traffic you’ll get at this site! Lots of cars pulling in to check it out, as well as bicycles & hikers, since there is a sign at the end of the driveway for the multi-use trail that starts at the site - not the paved bike trail, it is a dirt & grass horse trail that people hike. You can see the trail head across from the front porch. There is also a trail beyond the “Road Closed” sign at the rear of the cabin. Both attracted hikers & bikers while we were there, though the bikers didn’t attempt to go down either trail. It seems better suited for hiking or horseback. We even had someone park their car in our site to hike the trail. So if you’re looking for privacy, you’d probably be better off trying to rent McIntosh 40 in Red House, or one of the shorter trails in Quaker. If you don’t mind people around your cabin & site, it really is a beautiful cabin & spacious site! Indoor flush toilet & running cold water. 2 bedrooms, kitchen, and large main room. No drapes on the windows, so bring your own. High step into the cabin off the front porch, which has a screen room on it. We could hear our neighbors next door on Stony and across the road on Kaiser, but it wasn’t bad. Also, if you have a dog with you, be careful with the front porch. Some of the boards on the stairs & deck have separations that their claws could get stuck between. We used duct tape on them after our dog almost broke a nail. Bring throw rugs or duct tape for this reason.
Sep 05, 2024 · Lady Lightning98Great cabin! I’ve been camping her since I was a little boy and this cabin is by far the most unique one I’ve ever stayed at. Though I miss the gas stove at this site would be my only complaint. There is its own bathroom and a heater inside the main room. Beautiful front and side porches and a screened area on the front.
