Lake Hemet Campground Introduce
If you're a local outdoor enthusiast in Southern California searching for the ideal "Camping Near Me" that combines excellent camping facilities with outstanding fishing opportunities, Lake Hemet Campground, located at Box 4, 56570 CA-74, Mountain Center, CA 92561, USA, should be high on your list. You can reach them at (951) 659-2680 or +1 951-659-2680. Based on glowing reviews from regular visitors, Lake Hemet Campground has established itself as a premier destination, particularly for those who enjoy combining a camping getaway with exceptional trout fishing in a picturesque lake environment.
One of the most frequently praised aspects of Lake Hemet Campground is its prime location for fishing enthusiasts. The proximity of the campsites to the fishing areas is a significant advantage, allowing for easy and convenient access to the lake. Furthermore, the unique feature of being able to drive onto the beach and fish when the lake levels are low makes this campground a truly distinctive offering in Southern California. This accessibility caters to anglers of all abilities and preferences, whether they prefer casting from the shore or fishing directly from their vehicle.
While one reviewer noted that camping at Lake Hemet Campground is "a little pricey compared to other places," they also emphatically stated that it is "well worth the extra money." This premium pricing is justified by the campground's commitment to maintaining a high-quality fishing experience. Unlike campgrounds that rely solely on stocking from the Department of Fish and Game, Lake Hemet Campground invests significantly in keeping the lake "full of super sized premium trout." This proactive management ensures a consistently rewarding fishing experience for visitors, with the opportunity to catch larger and healthier trout.
Beyond the exceptional fishing, Lake Hemet Campground also boasts excellent facilities that contribute to a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. A standout feature, often hard to come by in other campgrounds, is the availability of showers with "decent water pressure" and, crucially, "hot water." This amenity is highly valued by campers looking to freshen up after a day of outdoor activities. Additionally, the restrooms at Lake Hemet Campground are consistently praised for being "cleaned and restocked frequently," indicating a commitment to hygiene and guest comfort.
The overall environment of Lake Hemet Campground is described as a "pleasure to visit," with one reviewer stating they have camped there multiple times over the past two years, making it their "favorite place for a combined camping/fishing trip." This suggests a welcoming and well-maintained atmosphere that keeps visitors returning. The location near Mountain Center implies a scenic mountain setting, likely offering beautiful views of the lake and surrounding natural landscape. The elevation may also contribute to cooler and more pleasant temperatures, especially during the warmer months in Southern California.
However, not all experiences have been entirely flawless. One reviewer shared a significant issue encountered upon arrival: a fire pit ring that was full of a "huge pile of burnt wood, charcoal and ashes" left by previous campers. This lack of cleanup required the new arrivals to shovel the debris themselves and haul it to the dumpster. The reviewer rightly suggested that a cleaning crew should be responsible for tidying up campsites after departure to ensure a clean and welcoming arrival for new guests. This feedback highlights an area where the campground could improve its service to match the otherwise high standards of its facilities and fishing program.
Despite this isolated incident regarding campsite cleanliness upon arrival, the overwhelming sentiment from the available reviews is positive, emphasizing the enjoyable atmosphere, excellent fishing, and quality facilities. The combination of a beautiful lake setting, the opportunity for productive fishing, and the availability of hot showers and clean restrooms makes Lake Hemet Campground a strong contender for those seeking a comprehensive and rewarding "Camping Near Me" experience.
While the provided information does not include specific promotional offers, the consistent positive feedback and the unique draw of premium trout fishing serve as a strong form of promotion for Lake Hemet Campground. The investment in maintaining a high-quality fishing environment and providing well-kept facilities clearly resonates with campers, justifying the slightly higher cost compared to other options.
For local users considering Lake Hemet Campground, it's important to note that it likely caters to both tent campers and RVers, although the reviews do not specify the types of campsites available. Given the mention of facilities like showers and restrooms, it is reasonable to assume that the campground offers a range of amenities suitable for different camping styles. If you are an RV owner, it would be advisable to inquire about the availability of hookups (water, electricity, sewer) when making a reservation.
The proximity to Mountain Center also suggests access to other nearby attractions and outdoor activities, although these are not detailed in the provided reviews. The Mountain Center area is known for its natural beauty and access to hiking trails and other recreational opportunities in the San Jacinto Mountains. Lake Hemet itself may also offer opportunities for boating or other water-based activities, although the focus of the reviews is primarily on fishing and camping.
In conclusion, Lake Hemet Campground near Mountain Center, CA, stands out as a premier "Camping Near Me" destination, particularly for those who value excellent trout fishing in a beautiful lake setting. While it may be slightly more expensive than other campgrounds, the investment in stocking premium trout and maintaining high-quality facilities like hot showers and clean restrooms is considered well worth the cost by many visitors. The only significant concern raised in the available reviews is the potential for campsites to be left unclean by previous occupants, suggesting an area for potential improvement in campground services. Overall, Lake Hemet Campground offers a memorable and enjoyable camping experience, making it a favorite for repeat visitors and a strong recommendation for anyone seeking a top-tier camping and fishing getaway in Southern California.

Lake Hemet Campground Reviews
It's always a pleasure to visit lake Hemet campground. I've camped here quite a few times over the last 2 years and it has by far become my favorite place for a combined camping/fishing trip. The proximity of the campsites to the fishing areas and the ability to drive onto the beach and fish when the lake is low makes this place a one of a kind for southern California. Camping here is a little pricey compared to other places but in my opinion it's well worth the extra money, these guys pay big money to keep the lake full of super sized premium trout and don't just rely on stocks from the department of fish and game. They have excellent facilities, Showers actually have decent water pressure and have hot water which is hard to come by in other campgrounds, restrooms are cleaned and restocked frequently. It's always a pleasure to visit lake Hemet campground and I can't wait to see you again!
Apr 30, 2025 · Jason HuffOverall, the stay was amazing, the only complaint I have was when we arrived. The fire pit ring was pulled from its ashes and was never cleaned so we had a huge pile of burnt wood, charcoal and ashes in a 4 foot pile and we had to shovel it and put it in trash bags And haul it to the dumpster ourselves. I think that there should be cleaning crew that come by after people leave and clean up any unwanted mess for the new arrivals.
Mar 24, 2025 · ROBERT DOMINGUEZWhat an absolute amazing experience when we arrived our first sight wasn't what we wanted and Landon the associate there got us a spot in a absolutely beautiful location on one of the campsites Lakeview absolutely gorgeous I wanted to thank Landon for all of his help and professionalism in making our trip one of the best ever great job team!
Apr 22, 2025 · Shawn MichaelThis is a very underrated camping spot (I think the name turns some away). Our lakeside spot was spacious with awesome views. Restrooms were very clean (surprisingly clean for a campground!). Campground staff were friendly and helpful. There's a small market at the entrance that's perfect for items you may have forgotten to pack. This is a great campground, especially for new campers. My only complaint, and it's not the campgrounds fault, is that we had neighbors on both sides that didn't respect "quite hours". I'm all for everyone having a good time, but when it's near midnight after a long day and large parties are still going strong, it's a bit much.
Oct 21, 2024 · Vladimir LacroixLovely place. Clean all around. I was nervous about the restrooms but they were clean and didn't stink like a portapoty. The fire pit we got didn't have a grill on top like most of the others ones did but it was alright. In the three days we stayed we only saw one person reel in a small fish. We possibly got a nibble but it could have been the wind.Lots of different birds to see. I wish I knew the names of them but lots of little black birds with yellow eyes with the funniest sounds that you couldn't help to mimic them. We saw lots of vultures in the morning just spreading there wings out and looking for food here and there. Ducks liked to hang out by the campsite too. Saw some squierls aswell. At night we had to put our food in the car because the mice starting looking around our boxes of food lol The black birds with the yellow eyes will also get your food if you are not there. We went for a walk and came back finding our paper towels and bananas being pecked at lolWe heard coyotes at night too!People need to leash their dogs though. Saw a dog attack another dog (both not leashed) The lady had gotten her dog on the bench to keep it away from the other dog but the other dog jumped up there and got attacked. Luckily no serious injury to any of them.Over all it was a fun experience. Can't wait to come back again someday.
