Neosho State Lake Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Parsons, Kansas area? Neosho State Lake, located at 3645 Scott Rd, Parsons, KS 67357, USA, offers a local camping experience with some unique natural attractions. While opinions on the lake itself vary, with one visitor noting it's "nothing special," the area boasts a set of "absolutely spectacular" waterfalls near the dam that are particularly impressive when flowing. This local campground and lake area presents an opportunity for an outdoor getaway close to home. Let's delve into what Neosho State Lake offers in terms of its environment, services, features, and insights from visitor reviews to help you decide if it's the right "camping near me" destination for you.
The Natural Environment of Neosho State Lake
The environment at Neosho State Lake is centered around the lake itself. While one review suggests the lake might not be the primary attraction for everyone, the presence of water naturally invites certain types of outdoor activities and provides a scenic backdrop. The key environmental highlight appears to be the waterfalls located near the dam. According to a visitor, these waterfalls are "absolutely spectacular" when flowing and are "definitely worth checking out." This suggests that the area around the lake and dam offers more than just the lake itself, with potential for scenic walks and the enjoyment of natural hydrographic features. However, it's important to note a visitor's encounter with "about a dozen water snakes (possibly cottonmouths)," advising caution in those areas. This highlights the importance of being aware of local wildlife when exploring any natural environment. The overall environment likely includes typical Kansas landscapes around a state lake, possibly with grassy areas and some tree cover, providing a setting for camping and picnicking.
Services and Facilities at Neosho State Lake
Based on the provided reviews, the services at Neosho State Lake appear to be somewhat basic, at least in certain areas. One reviewer mentioned camping in the picnic area and noted, "There was no restroom, but there was no charge." This suggests that while camping might be permitted in certain areas like the picnic grounds, the amenities might be limited in those specific spots. It's important to note that this observation might not apply to all camping areas within Neosho State Lake. Typically, state lakes with campgrounds offer designated camping areas with varying levels of amenities. These can range from primitive sites with just a place to pitch a tent to more developed sites with electric hookups, water access, and nearby restrooms and showers. To get a comprehensive understanding of the services available, it would be advisable to contact Neosho State Lake directly at the provided phone number, (620) 763-2280 or mobile +1 620-763-2280, or to check the official website if one exists. This would provide clarity on the availability of restrooms, water, electric hookups, and other camping-related services across the entire campground area, not just the picnic area.
Features and Attractions of Neosho State Lake
The standout feature of Neosho State Lake, based on the customer review, is undoubtedly the set of waterfalls near the dam. Described as "absolutely spectacular" and "large," these falls seem to be a significant natural attraction that makes a visit worthwhile, especially when they are flowing well. This suggests that exploring the area around the dam is a key feature for visitors. While the lake itself received a less enthusiastic review, it still likely offers opportunities for activities typically associated with lakes, such as fishing, and potentially boating or kayaking, although the reviews do not explicitly mention these. The fact that camping is available, even if one reviewer camped in the picnic area, indicates that overnight stays are possible, allowing visitors more time to explore the lake and its surroundings, including the notable waterfalls. The presence of a picnic area also suggests facilities for day use, allowing locals to enjoy a meal outdoors in a natural setting. However, the mention of water snakes is a feature of the environment that visitors should be aware of and exercise caution around, particularly near the water.
Potential Promotional Information
Based solely on the provided information, there are no explicit details about current promotions or special offers at Neosho State Lake. Typically, state-run recreational areas might have seasonal camping rates, potential day-use fees (though the picnic area was mentioned as having no charge for camping in that instance), or possible discounts for seniors or individuals with disabilities. To obtain information about any current promotions, it would be best to contact Neosho State Lake directly using the provided phone numbers: (620) 763-2280 or +1 620-763-2280. You could inquire about camping fees, day-use policies, and any ongoing discounts or special rates. In conclusion, Neosho State Lake offers a local "camping near me" option in Parsons, Kansas, with a notable highlight being the "absolutely spectacular" waterfalls near the dam. While one review indicated basic facilities in the picnic camping area, the overall campground might offer more comprehensive services. Visitors should be mindful of potential wildlife, such as water snakes, as mentioned in a review. To get the most accurate information about camping facilities, services, and any current promotions, contacting Neosho State Lake directly at (620) 763-2280 or +1 620-763-2280 is recommended. Despite mixed opinions on the lake itself, the impressive waterfalls make Neosho State Lake a potentially worthwhile local destination for those seeking natural beauty and outdoor experiences "camping near me."

Neosho State Lake Reviews
The lake itself is nothing special, but if you take the time to look for it, there is a set of waterfalls that come out of the lake near the dam that are absolutely spectacular when flowing. I was blown away by how large they were and it was definitely worth checking out. I did encounter about a dozen water snakes (possibly cottonmouths) so watch out for those if you go but other than that, I would highly recommend checking out these falls.
May 07, 2024 · Brett JacksonWe camped in the picnic area. There was no restroom, but there was no charge.
Apr 17, 2025 · Bob PattonDrove over 400 miles and as soon as we got here, we disturbed a bald-faced hornets nest. They attacked our van and left pheromones on the back window. We couldn't get out of the van and they followed us for miles back and forth, so we had to just leave and sleep at Walmart because it got dark.
Sep 20, 2018 · Erin SmithNice small park no power, water or sewage. A couple of houses. Ramp is steep and covered in algee or moss kinda slick. Older lake.
