One of the standout features of New River Campground and Canoe is its picturesque environment. Situated along the banks of the New River, the campground offers campsites with beautiful river views. Imagine waking up to the tranquil sounds of the river and enjoying the serene scenery right from your campsite. This proximity to the water not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also provides easy access for various water-based activities, which are a central draw of this location. The "breathtaking" views and "beyond relaxing" experience of being on the river, as mentioned by a local homeowner who frequently uses the campground for kayaking trips, underscore the natural beauty of the area.
The primary activity associated with New River Campground and Canoe, as the name suggests, is enjoying the New River itself. The campground likely offers canoe and kayak rentals, making it convenient for campers and other visitors to explore the river. One reviewer who regularly kayaks on the river notes that the "level of difficulty depends on the height of the water," with higher water levels resulting in a faster and stronger current. This variability makes the river accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages and skill levels, from leisurely paddles to more challenging excursions. The opportunity to embark on "kayaking trips down the river" directly from the campground is a significant advantage for water enthusiasts searching within the "camping near me" category.
Beyond the natural beauty and river activities, the staff at New River Campground and Canoe consistently receive high praise for their exceptional service. One reviewer specifically mentioned the camp host, Mike, as being "very helpful and friendly." One reviewer noted that the "shower is dated but clean, and it has hot water," indicating that basic hygiene needs are met. The spaciousness of the campsites is also a plus, with one visitor mentioning that "the spots are spacious, and it is easy to back in," which is particularly beneficial for RV campers. While not explicitly stated, it can be inferred that the campground likely provides other standard amenities such as restrooms, picnic tables, and fire pits at the campsites.
The location of New River Campground and Canoe offers additional conveniences. A reviewer pointed out that "there is a gas station and restaurant right up the road," providing easy access to fuel and dining options if needed. This proximity to local services can be particularly helpful for campers who may need to resupply or prefer occasional meals out.
Furthermore, the campground's proximity to attractions beyond the river adds to its appeal. It is located close to "New River National Park," suggesting easy access to the park's scenic trails, overlooks, and other natural features. This opens up opportunities for hiking, exploring, and further immersing oneself in the beauty of the region. Additionally, the mention of "Trail Explorer" being close by, which offers rides on old railway tracks using special cars, presents a unique and "very cool" local attraction that campers might enjoy.
While one reviewer noted some "train and truck noise from passing traffic," they also stated that, in their opinion, "it's not bad." This is an important point for potential visitors to consider, as proximity to transportation routes can sometimes introduce noise. However, the reviewer's overall positive rating suggests that the benefits of the location, particularly the river views and access, outweigh this potential drawback for many.
Although no specific promotional offers were mentioned in the reviews, the positive feedback regarding the beautiful riverside location, the availability of canoe and kayak rentals, the exceptional staff, and the proximity to New River National Park and other local attractions serves as a strong implicit promotion for New River Campground and Canoe. New River Campground and Canoe Reviews
This is a nice old school campground. The sites along the river are beautiful. You do get some train and truck noise from passing traffic, but IMHO opinion, it's not bad. The spots are spacious, and it is easy to back in. The shower is dated but clean, and it has hot water. I've stayed in worse, far worse. The camp host, Mike, is very helpful and friendly. There is a gas station and restaurant right up the road. The reason why I rated this so high is the views of the river and how close you are to New River National Park. Trail Explorer is close, too. You ride old railway tracks on special cars, very cool.
Oct 12, 2024 · Thomas KemmettI own a home close to New River Campground. I have been several times now for kayaking trips down the river. The views and local scenery are breathtaking and the trip down the river is beyond relaxing. The level of difficulty depends on the height of the water. The higher the water the faster and stronger the current. But overall you see people of all ages going down the river and enjoying themselves. The staff here is simply wonderful and overly accommodating.Stephanie and Jesse go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home while on the grounds. We will be back in 2 weeks Thanks for the wonderful memories!
Jul 19, 2024 · Julie MagillA great place for family fun! I took my dad here as a first time kayaker and the staff made sure he was taken care of and comfortable through the whole experience. The entire campground is clean and well maintained. I appreciate that the campground also employs a very handsome gentleman to keep an eye on the campground and keep all of the patrons safe. You feel totally comfortable leaving your campsite and hitting the river with him around!
Jun 26, 2024 · Beth RudisillThis is a great campground that has tent campsites, RV water and electric sites along the New River. They also have a very well maintained lawn along the property. Playground, basketball mini court, a picnic area, plenty of parking in the office entrance. Office also has a convenient store items. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. They also have kayaks, canoes and tubes for rent. Trips at 9:00am, 11:00am and 1:00pm. It will depend on the season if all three trips are available. You get to choose from a 3, 5, and 10 mile trip.
Sep 26, 2024 · Brenda MMy favorite family campground right on the new!! I love going and look forward to my visits there each year. The owners are great and make you feel right at home, and are always willing to help when you need it. Lots to offer, tubing, canoes, views, a store with necessities, and I feel extremely safe there with my kids. They have a gate with a code and they try hard to keep it clean and safe for their patrons and guests! 5 stars all the way down, I have never once been disappointed while staying there!
