North Fork Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a tranquil "camping near me" experience in the vicinity of Montague, California, North Fork Campground, located at 9 California 3, Montague, CA 96064, USA, presents an appealing option, particularly for tent campers and those with van-sized RVs. Situated alongside a creek with heavy rapids, this campground offers a serene environment with the soothing sounds of rushing water providing natural white noise, effectively eliminating road noise. The recent review confirming that the campground is "Open!" indicates its current availability for those looking for a last-minute "camping near me" getaway.
The environment of North Fork Campground is characterized by its proximity to a creek with significant rapids. This dynamic water feature not only contributes to the auditory ambiance of the campground, creating a peaceful and nature-filled setting, but it also influences the recreational opportunities and safety considerations. One reviewer described the creek as "quite nice" but cautioned that it is "not for children due to heavy rapids." This is an important environmental detail for families with young children to consider when searching for "camping near me." However, for adults and older children, the creek might offer scenic views and the calming sound of flowing water.
The campground itself features "good size lots," which is a positive attribute for campers seeking comfortable and spacious sites. While one reviewer suggested that the layout might be "maybe more for tent as not much room to circulate in anything else then van RV," this implies that while larger RVs might find maneuvering challenging, tent campers and those with smaller, more agile vehicles can likely be accommodated comfortably. This is a crucial piece of information for local users with different types of camping setups when considering North Fork Campground as their "camping near me" choice.
In terms of services and features, the limited information suggests a more rustic camping experience. One practical piece of advice from a recent visitor is to "Just bring your toilet paper," indicating that this essential amenity might not be consistently provided or readily available. This reinforces the idea that campers should be prepared for a more self-sufficient stay when choosing North Fork Campground as their "camping near me" destination. The same reviewer also mentioned a daily rate of "$16 per day," providing a crucial piece of information regarding the cost of camping at this location.
Another review noted that the campground was "Closed for season but great place to play in the snow." While this information is about an off-season experience, it hints at the potential for winter recreational activities in the area surrounding North Fork Campground. This could be a feature of interest for local users who enjoy snow play and might consider visiting the area even when the campground is officially closed, although overnight camping would likely not be permitted during such times.
Given the absence of information about other amenities, such as restrooms, water sources, or fire pits, it is reasonable to assume that North Fork Campground offers basic facilities. Campers should likely expect vault toilets rather than flush restrooms and should inquire about the availability of potable water. It is always wise to bring your own water supply when camping in more rustic locations. The presence of "lots" suggests designated camping areas, which might include a fire ring and a picnic table, but this is not explicitly stated in the reviews.
Promotional information is not directly available in the provided reviews. The mention of a $16 per day fee is the only cost-related detail. Local users interested in potential discounts for extended stays or seasonal rates would need to contact the managing authority for North Fork Campground directly. This might be the local county parks department, the US Forest Service (given its location in a potentially forested area of Northern California), or a private operator. Identifying the managing entity and their contact information would be the next step for those seeking more details on pricing and potential promotions for this "camping near me" option.
The location of North Fork Campground near Montague, California, places it in Siskiyou County, a region known for its natural beauty, including mountains, forests, and rivers. The proximity to California Highway 3 suggests relatively easy access. Local users choosing North Fork Campground as their "camping near me" might also find themselves within reach of other outdoor recreational opportunities in the area, such as hiking, fishing in other nearby streams or rivers (beyond the potentially hazardous North Fork creek for children), and exploring the scenic landscapes of Northern California.
In conclusion, North Fork Campground offers a quiet and potentially scenic "camping near me" experience near Montague, California, particularly well-suited for tent campers and those with van-sized RVs. The sound of the nearby rapids provides a natural and peaceful ambiance. However, campers should be aware that the creek might not be safe for young children due to the strong currents, and they should come prepared with their own toilet paper and potentially their own water supply. The current daily rate is reported as $16. For more information on amenities, potential promotions, and the managing authority, local users are encouraged to conduct further research online or contact local resources related to camping in Siskiyou County.

Dec 18, 2024 · Rob WNorth Fork Campground, has 9 sites, a few FF, 2 miles from fish lake, next to Mt. McLoughlin. We camped the end of May 2021 over the Memorial Holiday weekend for an overnight. It is a tight little Campground, we have a smaller travel trailer (21-ft) and didn't have a problem navagating the tight roads of the Campground, we camped in site #9 on the little creek. Nice quite place, next to lots and lots of dispersed camping in the Rouge River National Forest. No host, $16.00 a night, fresh water by hand pump.
Nov 11, 2021 · Caren TegI drove through the site and was impressed with a few things... the size of most of the sites and having pullout for your vehicle next to your site, not IN your site. Water pump and outhouse. There's a river that borders the CG that you can hear at night! We will stay there for elk season.
