North Pines Campground Introduce
For those diligently searching "Camping Near Me" and aspiring to experience the unparalleled beauty of Yosemite National Park, North Pines Campground stands out as a highly desirable and often sought-after destination. Located at 9024 Southside Dr, TUOLUMNE MEADOWS, CA 95389, USA, within the iconic Yosemite Valley, North Pines offers a truly immersive and memorable camping experience. You can reach the park for general inquiries, including those related to campgrounds, at (209) 372-8502 or via mobile at +1 209-372-8502. However, due to its popularity, securing a reservation is often necessary, and it is widely known to be more challenging to book compared to some other campgrounds like Upper Pines.
The environment at North Pines Campground is truly captivating, nestled directly within the heart of Yosemite Valley. This prime location places campers amidst towering granite cliffs, such as Yosemite Falls and Half Dome, and alongside the scenic Merced River. The campground is described as "beautiful," creating a serene and picturesque setting. While the specific density of trees or privacy levels between all sites aren't explicitly detailed, reviews indicate that the campsites are "mostly larger than average, Yosemite valley size camp sites." This suggests that compared to some other popular valley campgrounds, North Pines offers a more generous amount of space per site, contributing to a more comfortable and less cramped feeling for campers. The proximity to the Merced River is a significant environmental feature, offering opportunities for relaxation and play, especially for families. The river's condition, as noted by a camper, can be "low and slow, great for small kids playing safely, but still had plenty of deep spots if you wanted to get fully submerged on a hot day," highlighting its versatility for various water activities.
In terms of services and features, North Pines Campground is well-equipped to provide a comfortable yet authentic camping experience. The facilities are consistently described as "very clean," particularly the bathrooms. While running water is available in the restrooms, it's important to note that campers should "bring your own hand soap" as it is not provided. Furthermore, there are "no showers available" directly within the campground. However, campers have the convenient option to "use pay showers at Curry Village," which is a short distance away, offering a practical solution for personal hygiene. Each campsite is equipped with fire pits, allowing campers to enjoy traditional campfires. However, there are specific regulations regarding fire use, with fire pits "only to be used from 5 pm-10 pm." This restriction is common in national parks to manage fire risk and maintain air quality. As with all Yosemite campgrounds, bear safety is paramount, and it is understood that each site would be equipped with bear lockers (food lockers) for secure food storage, though this was not explicitly stated in the provided reviews, it is standard for all valley campgrounds.
North Pines Campground is also noted for being "dog friendly," which is a significant feature for many families traveling with their pets. The reviews confirm that even during busy periods like Labor Day weekend, campers were "good about keeping their dogs under control," indicating a respectful community atmosphere regarding pet policies. This feature makes North Pines an even more appealing option for pet owners searching for "Camping Near Me" in a national park setting. The observed quiet hours are another notable positive feature. Campers report that "Quiet hours were better observed at North Pines than across the river at Lower Pines," where "raucous time and big fires even at midnight" were heard. This adherence to quiet hours contributes significantly to the peaceful and enjoyable atmosphere that many campers seek, especially families.
The overall promotional appeal of North Pines Campground lies in its combination of prime location, family-friendly atmosphere, and well-maintained facilities. It is often seen as a "welcome treat" for those who typically stay in Upper Pines, suggesting a consistently positive experience. Its direct access to the Merced River and proximity to various Yosemite Valley attractions make it an ideal base for exploration. While getting a reservation can be challenging due to its popularity, the experience of staying at North Pines is often described as "very pleasant" and "enjoyable." The emphasis on clean facilities, observed quiet hours, and spacious sites contributes to a high level of camper satisfaction, making it a highly desirable destination for those seeking a high-quality camping experience within Yosemite National Park. The ability to spend time here is clearly a highlight for returning visitors who are "looking to spend more nights at North Pines!"
In conclusion, North Pines Campground stands as a premier option for anyone searching "Camping Near Me" within the iconic Yosemite National Park. Its beautiful setting alongside the Merced River, spacious and clean campsites, and consistently observed quiet hours contribute to a very pleasant and family-friendly environment. While campers need to bring their own hand soap and utilize pay showers at Curry Village, the essential amenities, including fire pits (with time restrictions) and the presumed bear lockers, are well-managed. The dog-friendly policy further enhances its appeal. Despite its popularity and the challenge of securing a reservation, the overwhelmingly positive feedback confirms that North Pines offers a truly rewarding and enjoyable camping experience in the heart of Yosemite Valley.

North Pines Campground Reviews
My family, friends and I Usually spend time in Yosemite a couple times or more each year. That said, we usually stay in Upper Pines campground as is typically easier to get a reservation. So, staying in North Pines was a welcome treat. Very clean facilities. No load, late night parties. Mostly larger than average, Yosemite valley size camp sites. It was a very pleasant stay, looking to spend more nights at North Pines!🤙
Oct 06, 2024 · Chris SchnauferBeautiful campground, great for families. Clean bathrooms but bring your own hand soap, no showers available but you can use pay showers at Curry Village. Dog friendly but even on Labor Day weekend people were good about keeping their dogs under control. Fire pits are available but can only be used from 5pm-10pm. The river was low and slow, great for small kids playing safely, but still had plenty of deep spots if you wanted to get fully submerged on a hot day. Quiet hours were better observed at North Pines than across the river at Lower Pines where they were having a raucous time and big fires even at midnight. Despite the very large crowds for the holiday, it was still an enjoyable stay.
Sep 13, 2024 · Teal DuPréAlways an absolute joy and amazing experience.Every year we try to get reservations for at least a few days of camping in Yosemite Valley but as soon as they release the campsites we try to grab them but they are taken within minutes of the release. This year we were blessed with a week stay in North Pines Campground in July, which is a total miracle. We always have a great time sharing our camping experiences with my wife’s family. This year was so great having our campsite for those with tents and my Sister in law had an RV at their site. We had the Grill and Upright Stove which worked best for some of the meals and the RV accommodated the other venues. We enjoyed swimming in the Merced River for refreshment. The Trams were running from Curry Village to Yosemite Village and the rest of the normal Valley Destinations. They were still working on construction for the Campground destinations.Curry Village and Yosemite Village always have any grocery items that you would want if you forgot them or just simply ran out. There are plenty of hiking trails for all levels of hiking that you and your family and friends can enjoy.I recommend having All Trails App and the preloaded trails to assist you in navigating your hiking along with bringing plenty of water please.Already missing Yosemite and looking forward to our next trip.
Aug 10, 2024 · Randy KielanI've been going to Yosemite for years and this was my favorite campsite. Great views all the way around, we were right on the Merced and the camp host was very good at keeping things quiet.
Oct 28, 2024 · Leigh FitzNicely located in the Valley. There is water and toilets near each loop, but 20 min walk to get to the showers (Curry village). We were able to see a lot using our bikes from this campground. Nice views (half dome) and access to Merced River. The sites are close one to each other.
