Situated in a prime location for exploring the renowned Hocking Hills State Park, this campground offers a unique blend of traditional camping and cabin rentals. Customer reviews highlight both the exceptional access to local attractions, particularly Old Man's Cave, and some considerations regarding campsite size and facilities. For local users looking for "camping near me" with unparalleled access to the natural wonders of Hocking Hills, Old Man's Cave Campground is definitely a place to consider.
The environment of Old Man's Cave Campground is undeniably its most significant feature. Located directly within the Hocking Hills region, guests are immediately surrounded by the area's characteristic dramatic cliffs, deep gorges, and lush forests. One reviewer specifically mentioned a "very short trail hike to Old Man's Caves from our site," underscoring the exceptional proximity to one of the park's most iconic attractions. This immediate access allows campers to easily explore the natural beauty of the area, including the famous Old Man's Cave, without the need for extensive travel. Furthermore, one review noted that the Sherman cabin 2 was "nestled against a wooded area, providing easy access to the lake at the back," indicating that parts of the campground offer a more secluded and nature-immersed experience. While some campsites are described as having "small spots and close together," the overall environment is one of natural beauty and convenient access to the hiking trails and scenic wonders that define the Hocking Hills. For local users searching for "camping near me" where the primary focus is exploration of the natural environment, Old Man's Cave Campground's location is hard to beat.
In terms of services and features, the customer reviews provide a mixed perspective. One reviewer noted that while one of the bath and shower rooms has been upgraded, the other remains quite old, suggesting a disparity in the quality of these facilities. They also mentioned a "shortage of flushing toilets" but highlighted the presence of a pool as an amenity. This indicates that the campground offers basic facilities, with some areas needing improvement. Regarding the campsites themselves, they are described as "closely situated, offering little privacy," which might be a consideration for those prioritizing seclusion within the campground. However, the availability of the Sherman cabin 2 offers a different experience. This cabin was described as "lovely, featuring a spacious living room and dining area" and its location against a wooded area with lake access suggests a more comfortable and private lodging option within the campground. Therefore, Old Man's Cave Campground caters to different preferences, offering traditional campsites with basic amenities and more comfortable cabin rentals. For local users seeking "camping near me," it's important to consider whether you prefer a more traditional camping experience close to the trails or the added comfort of a cabin.
A key feature of Old Man's Cave Campground is undoubtedly its unparalleled access to the attractions of Hocking Hills State Park, particularly Old Man's Cave itself. The ability to hike directly to this iconic site from the campground is a significant advantage for visitors. The presence of cabin rentals, like the Sherman cabin 2, adds another layer of appeal, offering a more comfortable and spacious alternative to tent or RV camping. The mention of a pool also indicates a recreational amenity available to guests. While some reviews point out the close proximity of campsites and the varying quality of bathhouse facilities, the primary draw remains the location and the easy access to the natural wonders of the Hocking Hills. For local users looking for "camping near me" where the focus is on exploring the outdoors, the convenience of being within walking distance of major attractions is a significant feature. The availability of both campsites and cabin rentals provides options for different types of "camping near me" experiences.
Regarding promotional information, Old Man's Cave Campground could effectively promote itself to local users by highlighting its prime location within Hocking Hills State Park, emphasizing the direct trail access to Old Man's Cave and other nearby attractions. They could also showcase the availability of cabin rentals like the well-received Sherman cabin 2, which offers more space and comfort. While the reviews mention some areas for improvement in the general campground facilities, the unique access to the park's natural beauty is a strong selling point. Potential promotions might focus on weekend getaways with easy hiking access or family stays in the cabins. To learn about specific rates, availability for campsites and cabins, and any current special offers, local users should contact them directly via phone or explore any online booking platforms where the campground might be listed. Highlighting the convenience for exploring Hocking Hills and the variety of accommodation options (campsites vs. cabins) would be key in attracting local residents looking for a memorable "camping near me" experience.
In conclusion, Old Man's Cave Campground in Logan, OH, offers a unique "camping near me" experience primarily due to its exceptional location within Hocking Hills State Park. The direct trail access to Old Man's Cave and other natural wonders is a significant advantage for outdoor enthusiasts. While the campground itself has some mixed reviews regarding campsite size and facilities, the availability of lovely cabin rentals like the Sherman cabin 2 provides a more comfortable option. For local users prioritizing access to hiking and the stunning scenery of Hocking Hills, Old Man's Cave Campground is a prime choice. Old Man's Cave Campground Reviews
Great area, but small spots and close together. Was there for the local attractios, so we did not really care about the site sizes. Very short trail hike to old man caves from our site. The climb back was tough.
Oct 17, 2024 · Gary SmithThe campground is decent, but there’s room for improvement. While one of the bath and shower rooms has been upgraded, the other remains quite old. There’s a shortage of flushing toilets, but they do have a pool. The campsites are closely situated, offering little privacy. However, the Sherman cabin 2 we stayed in was lovely, featuring a spacious living room and dining area. It’s nestled against a wooded area, providing easy access to the lake at the back. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Mar 30, 2024 · Ying TThis place is place is "gorge"ous. I think the addition of the new large visitor center in 2018 is going to be the cherry on top of this nature's sundae. We got new light weight hiking boots that came in handy for the wet trails and rocks. There are various difficulties of trails that I feel can be recreational and for beginners. The park doesn't leave out the avid hikers with steep trails and long steps combinations.Parking is free. Wear comfortable shorts, shirts and hiking boots. Bring water or a bladder bag. Also you're going to want to bring your camera to snap all those beautiful scenes.
May 31, 2018 · Richard BallLet me start by saying, "WOOOWWWW, WOW and more WOWS'" This place is THE BEST adventure the boys and I have been on. It is GORGEOUS, BEAUTIFUL, FAIRY-TALISH 😁 There is so much to do. I didn't find the 'Old Man's, however, the cave was impossible to miss. They're huge and EVERYWHERE! Around EVERY corner was something more fabulous and exciting as the last. It reminded me of "Lord of the Rings" along w "Jurassic Park". The caves looked like they were dug out in the rock walls. You could live in them they're so deep in. The roots of the huge trees were entangled all over. Trees from up above looking as if they were going to just fall out from the dirt and come tumbling down. We did see the "Devil's Bathtub". I thought it was going to be bigger but it was still AWESOME! The story is that it goes all the way down to the middle of the Earth. We looked like little ants up against the huge rock walls. There were steps dug into the side of the walls but also steps that winded out over the creek water. The coolest set of stairs I've ever seen. We did not get to finish but GUARANTEE we WILL BE BACK next wkend. Starting early. 🌞 I took so many pics but I can only add 50. Everything u will have questions about will most likely be in my pics. Btw, I didn't see any playground, there is picnic areas and it is animal friendly so bring your dog along. He/she would love it! 🐕I give Old Man's Cave a 10 ⭐
Sep 05, 2022 · Christy Leigh WilkinsThis is the official state park campground, not one of the private ones. The camp office/store had helpful employees, souvenirs, ice, firewood, and camping supplies. Our campsite was clean and typical of any state park site - fire pit, parking spot, picnic table, and nearby water fountain. The restrooms by the pool had showers with hot water. We didn't have time to go swimming, but the pool looked really nice. Beware of hungry racoons that are not the least bit afraid of people, and will steal your food.
