Riverside Camping Houston Introduce
For local Houston residents and those in the surrounding areas searching for "camping near me," Riverside Camping Houston, located at 17823 Riverside St, Houston, TX 77044, offers a unique beachside camping experience within the city limits. You can contact them at (832) 275-4652 or +1 832-275-4652 for inquiries and bookings. Based on the available customer reviews, Riverside Camping Houston boasts a beautiful park setting with the distinct advantage of beachside camping, providing a unique opportunity to enjoy nature and potentially water-related activities close to the city.
The environment at Riverside Camping Houston is consistently described as "beautiful," suggesting a scenic location that allows campers to connect with nature. The key feature is its beachside setting, which implies proximity to a body of water, although the specific type (e.g., river, lake, bayou) is not explicitly mentioned. Beachside camping offers the allure of waterfront views, the sounds of the water, and the possibility of activities like swimming, fishing, or simply relaxing on the shore. However, one reviewer notes that the area can be "very noisy at night with the train passing (what felt like every hour on the hour)." This is a significant factor to consider for light sleepers or those seeking a completely tranquil environment.
In terms of services and amenities, the reviews provide some crucial insights. One reviewer points out a discrepancy in pricing, stating that the online price was incorrect and that the actual cost was "$25 per person not per tent," which they considered "steep" given the limited amenities. Specifically, the lack of showers or sinks for handwashing was highlighted as a significant drawback. This suggests that Riverside Camping Houston offers a more rustic camping experience with basic facilities. While the beauty of the location and the welcoming owner are positives, the limited amenities and per-person pricing are important considerations for potential campers. The second reviewer also mentions that the "accommodations are rustic," reinforcing this aspect of the campground.
Despite the rustic accommodations, the owner, Maria, receives high praise in both reviews. One camper described her as "very nice and helpful," while the other referred to her as "awesome." One particularly heartwarming anecdote recounts how Maria checked on a camper during a period of cold and snowy weather, even bringing coffee and oatmeal. This level of personal care and attentiveness from the owner appears to be a significant feature of Riverside Camping Houston, creating a welcoming and safe atmosphere for guests. The second reviewer also mentioned that Maria remembered them on a subsequent visit and continued to check in, highlighting a personal touch that enhances the camping experience.
The second review also touches on the location, describing it as "a little out of the way." While this might be a drawback for some seeking immediate convenience, the reviewer, who enjoys solitude and the outdoors, found it appealing. They also expressed a sense of safety at the campground compared to some motels in the Humble/Houston area, especially considering the cost. This suggests that Riverside Camping Houston might offer a more secure and nature-oriented alternative to traditional lodging options, particularly for solo travelers or those prioritizing a connection with the outdoors.
When local users search for "camping near me" on platforms that list campgrounds, Riverside Camping Houston would likely be featured for its unique beachside camping within the Houston area. However, potential campers should be aware of the pricing structure (per person), the limited amenities (no showers or sinks mentioned), and the potential for noise from nearby trains. The positive reviews regarding the owner's hospitality and the beautiful setting should also be taken into account. Listings might include information about the types of campsites available (e.g., tent camping, RVs – although RV suitability isn't explicitly mentioned), and it would be advisable to confirm the current pricing and available amenities directly with the campground.
For local users considering Riverside Camping Houston, it is essential to weigh the pros and cons based on their individual needs and preferences. If you value a beautiful beachside location and appreciate a welcoming and helpful owner, and are comfortable with rustic amenities and potential train noise, this campground might be a good fit. However, if you require more comprehensive facilities like showers and sinks, or are sensitive to noise, you might want to consider other options. It would be prudent to call ahead and inquire about the specific type of beach access available, any restrictions on activities, and to confirm the current pricing policy to avoid surprises upon arrival.
The provided reviews do not mention any specific promotional offers or discounts. To inquire about any such promotions, seasonal rates, or potential discounts for longer stays, it is recommended to contact Riverside Camping Houston directly at the provided phone numbers. Given the discrepancy reported in online pricing, it is always best to get the most up-to-date information directly from the owner. You might also want to ask about any pet policies or additional fees for things like extra vehicles or guests.
In conclusion, Riverside Camping Houston offers a unique beachside camping experience within Houston, TX, characterized by a beautiful setting and a highly praised, helpful owner. However, potential campers should be aware of the per-person pricing structure, the rustic nature of the amenities (specifically the lack of showers and sinks mentioned), and the potential for noise from nearby train traffic. For those who prioritize the natural environment and a welcoming host and are prepared for more basic facilities, Riverside Camping Houston could be a worthwhile "camping near me" option. It is strongly recommended to contact the owner directly for the most accurate information regarding pricing, amenities, and any current promotions before making a booking.

Riverside Camping Houston Reviews
Beautiful park and great beachside camping. Price online is not correct. It is 25 per person not per tent which is steep considering there are no showers or sinks to even wash your hands. It is very noisy at night with the train passing (what felt like every hour on the hour). The owner was very nice and helpful.
Mar 23, 2025 · Charisse LombardoI have camped here a few times. The owner, Maria, is awesome. The first time was for 3 days and unfortunately it's was 20° and snowing. I was in my tent and she made it a point to check up on me several times. Even bringing me coffee and oatmeal one morning! She really made me feel welcomed. The rains have reeked havoc this time but I weathered the storm and it's turned out to be a really nice weekend. Maria remembered me and has stopped by a few times to check in on me. It's a little out of the way and the accomodations are rustic but I love the outdoors and being alone. For the price you can't beat it. Personally I feel much safer out here than in some of the Humble/Houston motels and are twice the cost of being one with nature!!
Feb 07, 2024 · Rebecca Dean (Becca)Awesome spot On the river. I'm sure it's full of locals in the summer. Lucky place to have. Has some 110 plug-in 's the people who run it are really laid back. Nothing seemed like a big deal. Do your part and they do theirs. Was a little hard to find for someone not from there. It's basically the jet ski rental place if you follow Google. Hurricanes have done some damage as usual. Only thing missing was hot water was under construction. Wich is a good thing I guess. Highly recommend. Good price and best of all out of Houstons normal B.S. 👍
