Rivertown Campgrounds Introduce
For local users in search of a delightful "camping near me" experience along the scenic Ohio River, Rivertown Campgrounds, located at 113 Washington St, Vevay, IN 47043, USA, presents itself as a well-kept secret worth discovering. You can reach them at (812) 427-3131 or +1 812-427-3131 for inquiries and reservations.
Rivertown Campgrounds, a city-run facility in the charming town of Vevay (pronounced Veevee), Indiana, offers a total of 44 campsites. According to a detailed first-hand review, the campground provides a variety of hookup options to accommodate different camping needs. Twelve of the sites are full hookup, offering 30-amp electrical service. While these full hookup sites are located on the opposite side of the park and offer no shade, they still provide views of the majestic Ohio River.
The remaining campsites at Rivertown Campgrounds offer 50-amp, 30-amp, and 15-amp electrical service. A unique feature of the riverfront sites is a shared water hookup between neighbors, meaning water access is available at every other site. These electric and water-only sites benefit from ample shade, creating a cooler and more comfortable camping environment, especially during the warmer months. All campsites feature gravel pads, which, while generally functional, may experience puddling along the front of the sites during rainy weather.
The environment of Rivertown Campgrounds is described as quite, peaceful, and shady, particularly in the electric and water-only sections along the river. One of the appealing features is the "awesome views of the barges going by" on the Ohio River, which is also noted as the primary source of any ambient noise, adding a touch of riverine charm to the camping experience.
In terms of services and amenities, Rivertown Campgrounds provides essential facilities for a comfortable stay. The bathroom is conveniently located near the playground, making it easily accessible for families with children. A separate shower house is situated by the full hookup section of the campground, and a dump station is also available in that area for RV users. The thoughtful placement of these facilities ensures that campers throughout the campground have access to necessary conveniences.
The community of Vevay takes evident pride in their park and the upkeep of Rivertown Campgrounds. A reviewer shared a positive experience of arriving after a severe storm to find the campground already cleaned up. The city even provided a brand new fire ring for their campsite. This level of care and attention to the comfort of visitors highlights the community's commitment to maintaining a welcoming environment.
One of the standout features of Rivertown Campgrounds is its affordability. The city keeps the rates reasonable, with the intention of offsetting the costs of grounds maintenance, such as mowing. This makes it an attractive option for local users seeking an affordable "camping near me" experience without compromising on location or basic amenities.
Beyond the campground itself, its location within Vevay offers additional perks. During the Labor Day weekend, a reviewer noted the presence of an ice cream truck within the campground and a free outdoor movie with free popcorn organized by the city in the park on Saturday night. This suggests a connection between the campground and local community events, potentially offering campers opportunities for additional entertainment and engagement.
While the campground was only a quarter full during the Labor Day weekend at the time of the review, the reviewer anticipates that it will become more popular as more people discover this "best kept secret along the Ohio River." This suggests that local users looking for a quieter camping experience now might find Rivertown Campgrounds particularly appealing, but it also implies that booking in advance might become necessary in the future.
One potential consideration for those with long motorhomes is the transition from the campground to the nearby boat ramp, which might require careful navigation. However, this seems to be a minor point in an otherwise overwhelmingly positive review.

With a variety of campsite options, including full hookup and electric/water sites with ample shade, essential amenities like restrooms, showers, and a dump station, and a welcoming community that takes pride in the park's upkeep, it presents a compelling option for a relaxing getaway. Rivertown Campgrounds Reviews
I'm probably going to regret doing this review, this is the first review for this campground. The reason for my regret is how hard it will be to get in once you see the best kept secret along the Ohio River. It took me a few months to find anything out about the campground. I knew it existed, just couldn't find any info on it, so here goes. This is located in Vevay (pronounced Veevee), Indiana along the Ohio River. There are 44 sites that offered at thus City Campground. 12 site are full hook up but those are only 30a and no shade. Also located on the other side of the park. You can still see the river from them. All the other sites offer 50a/30a/15a. The sites that are along the river share a water hook up with your neighbor (water on every other site. Lots of shade in the area that is Electric/Water only. All sites are gravel pads, if it rains, there will be puddles along the front of the sites.Leaving the campground in a long motorhome you'll have to watch the transition to the boat ramp. The people around here care about the town. Brandi, who works for the city, brought us out our camping packet. They had a severe Strom the day before our arrival and had the campground cleaned up before we got here. They even brought us a brand new fire ring. They keep the rates affordable so they can offset the cost of mowing. The bathroom is located by the playground, the shower house is located by the full hook-up section along with the Dump station.Quite, peaceful, shady, affordable, and awesome views of the barges going by (the only noise you'll probably here). We camped Labor Day weekend. Saw an Ice cream truck go through and on Saturday night the City was doing an outdoor movie with Free Popcorn in the park. Campground was on 1/4 full, but I bet it'll be hard to get in next year once everyone knows about it... I'll probably kick myself in the butt for telling you about it. The community really takes pride in their park and the up keep. Thank you for sharing it with us.
