Sexton Island N62 Campsite Introduce
Are you seeking a truly unique and immersive "camping near me" experience in the heart of Minnesota's wilderness? Sexton Island N62 Campsite, located near Orr, MN 55771, USA, offers an exceptional opportunity to camp on an island within the renowned Voyageurs National Park. This boat-in campsite provides a secluded and picturesque setting for those looking to escape the ordinary and connect with nature in a profound way. When you search for "camping near me" and desire something beyond the typical roadside campground, Sexton Island N62 promises an unforgettable adventure.
The environment surrounding Sexton Island N62 Campsite is nothing short of breathtaking. As a boat-in campsite, it is naturally surrounded by the pristine waters of Voyageurs National Park, offering stunning panoramic views and a sense of tranquil isolation. Imagine arriving at your campsite by boat, the only sounds being the gentle lapping of water against the shore and the calls of wildlife. The reviews from fellow campers speak volumes about the beauty of this location, with one describing it as "absolutely stunning." The ability to "walk right in to camp" from your boat, thanks to the dock access, adds a significant layer of convenience to this wilderness experience.
The features of Sexton Island N62 Campsite cater specifically to those seeking a more adventurous and group-oriented "camping near me" option. The site is designed to accommodate up to 9 people and includes two tent pads, providing ample space for a larger group or family. The inclusion of bear lockers is a crucial feature in this wilderness environment, ensuring the safety of your food and belongings from local wildlife. This thoughtful provision allows you to relax and enjoy your surroundings with peace of mind.
One of the standout features highlighted by a reviewer is the presence of a dock. This not only facilitates easy access to the campsite via boat but also opens up opportunities for various water-based activities directly from your site. Whether you enjoy fishing, swimming, or simply relaxing by the water's edge, the dock enhances the overall camping experience. The reviewer also notes the strategic location of Sexton Island N62 for those planning a day trip to Kettle Falls, particularly if launching from Ash River. This makes the campsite an ideal basecamp for exploring the iconic landmarks and waterways of Voyageurs National Park.
However, it's important to be aware of the boat traffic in the area, as mentioned in one of the reviews. Being situated on one of the main routes between Ash River and Kettle Falls, passing by the north side of Kubel Island, the campsite does experience a fair amount of boat activity. While this might not detract from the overall beauty and experience for many, it's something to consider if you are particularly seeking absolute solitude. The reviewer also points out the presence of two large rocks in front of the camp, which boaters should be mindful of when approaching and docking.
When considering "camping near me" in a national park setting like Voyageurs, it's essential to understand that services might be more limited compared to developed campgrounds. As a boat-in campsite, Sexton Island N62 likely operates on a moreLeave No Trace philosophy. Campers are typically responsible for bringing all their own supplies, including water, food, cooking equipment, and waste disposal bags. While the presence of bear lockers is a significant amenity, other services like restrooms or potable water sources might not be directly available at the campsite itself. It's crucial to be well-prepared and self-sufficient when choosing this type of wilderness "camping near me" option.
Regarding promotional information, specific deals or discounts for individual campsites within Voyageurs National Park are less common than in privately owned campgrounds. Camping fees usually apply and are often managed through the National Park Service. It's advisable to check the official Voyageurs National Park website or the recreation.gov platform for the most up-to-date information on reservation procedures, fees, and any special alerts or regulations that might be in place. Booking in advance is highly recommended, especially during peak season, as boat-in campsites like Sexton Island N62 are often in high demand due to their unique appeal and limited availability.
For local users in the Orr, MN area and beyond, Sexton Island N62 Campsite offers a remarkable opportunity to experience the rugged beauty of Voyageurs National Park firsthand. The combination of island camping, dock access, and its strategic location for exploring key park attractions makes it a standout choice when searching for "camping near me." While it requires a bit more planning and self-sufficiency than traditional campgrounds, the reward is an immersive and unforgettable wilderness experience. Imagine spending your days exploring the waterways, fishing in pristine lakes, and your evenings under a canopy of stars, far from the lights and sounds of civilization.
In conclusion, Sexton Island N62 Campsite is a gem within Voyageurs National Park, offering a unique boat-in "camping near me" experience for up to 9 people. Its stunning environment, dock access, suitability for group camping, and proximity to attractions like Kettle Falls and Ash River make it a highly desirable destination for those seeking a wilderness adventure. While boat traffic is a consideration, the overall experience of camping on your own island in this breathtaking national park is truly exceptional. Remember to check the official park service website for reservations, fees, and essential information to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip to Sexton Island N62.

Sexton Island N62 Campsite Reviews
Really awesome site with a dock, walk right in to camp. Up to 9 people two tent pads with bear lockers. Location is just about right if you intend on launching at ash river with a day trip to kettle falls. This site does see quite a bit of boat traffic though as it's on one of the main runs between ash river and kettle falls that goes by the north side of Kubel island. Two large rocks in front of the camp to watch out for.
