Based on feedback from fellow campers, South Abutment Campground is appreciated for its peaceful atmosphere. One visitor described it as a "nice and quiet place to just get away," highlighting its appeal for those seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The anticipation for the lake to reopen suggests that the campground benefits from its proximity to a water body, likely offering opportunities for water-related activities and scenic views, although specific details about lake access and activities were not provided in the reviews.
The natural environment surrounding South Abutment Campground appears to be a significant draw, contributing to the overall quiet and relaxing ambiance that visitors have noted. While the reviews don't explicitly detail the landscape, the mention of waiting for the lake to open implies a setting that integrates water features with the camping experience. Local users who value natural beauty and a calm environment might find this campground appealing.
In terms of services and facilities, one review provided specific feedback regarding the bathhouse. This visitor mentioned issues such as clogged drains leading to water buildup, loose door hinges on stalls, and concerns about cleanliness, including hair from previous guests. Additionally, they noted that only one light was functioning over the showers, and the light near the sinks on the shower side was very dim. This feedback suggests that while the natural setting and overall campground experience might be positive, the condition of the bathhouse could be an area for improvement. As a local user considering a stay, it would be prudent to be aware of these comments regarding the facilities.
Despite the concerns raised about the bathhouse, the same reviewer stated that they "loved our trip" otherwise. This indicates that the positive aspects of the campground, such as its quiet environment and potentially other amenities or the surrounding nature, outweighed the issues encountered with the facilities for this particular visitor. This suggests that South Abutment Campground still holds considerable appeal for those who prioritize a peaceful outdoor experience.

Its quiet environment is a significant positive, and the presence of a nearby lake adds to its appeal, although the current status of lake access should be verified. South Abutment Campground Reviews
Nice and quiet place to just get away. We can hardly wait for the lake to open back up.
Nov 19, 2024 · Joann MacklinLoved the campground, but the bathhouse just wasn't ok. Drains clogged, so water builds up around your feet, door hinges off stalls, hair from previous guests on walls of shower. I get it's a state park, but I wouldn't put myself in a situation to go back if I had to use the bathhouse. Only one light over the showers worked also. Light near sinks on shower side was very dim.Other than that, I loved our trip.
Mar 31, 2024 · Beth IradiLove USACE campgrounds. Always well maintained. The sites are nicely spaced out. In this campground, some sites have full sun (next to the lake) while others are full shade among all the trees. Bathhouse facilities are old and appear well maintained. There is a day-use area that is very large with a lot of different sports equipment and setups.Definitely a campground I would return to when passing through the area and needing a place for an overnight stay.
