I will start out by saying my family used to camp here all the time when i was younger. With the trying times over the years it had been a while since wed been back. This last weekend we decided to take a day trip and visit a couple places in the bend/sisters area. I was very excited to remember some of the good times we used to have and unfortunatly i think thats where they will be stay...this place is not anywhere close to being the same as it used too. i did hear that it did get bought out a couple years ago but i guess id hoped they were still going to keep the same values of this place that keeps people coming back. This was such a disappointment because their was absolutely no customer service. no one seemed to care about talking to customers. They all seemed to only care about their own conversations they were having on their phone or with coworkers. We actually had to stand their awkwardly for awhile to wait for them to finish their discussion before they disgustingly turned to us and looked at us like what do you want...very uncomfortable! We also were interested in their "hand scooped ice cream" which was pretty much a small booth that originally probably had like 5 or so flavors to pick from but on this specific day EVERYTHING was sold out EXCEPT vanilla which i guarentee was probably freezer burnt....but no sprinkle no whipped cream no topping....ok so why are you open?!?! Plus they were very rude about the fact that they were only open that one day and as we approching them they said if we wanted to order something we better do it right then otherwise they were going to close....umm their was like no one their. Plus it was like 2:00 in the afternoon....Overall this place has just become a huge disappoint especially because we know this place used to be very family oriented and fun. The people that used to own this place used to be so friendly and caring. So sad to see a tradition die 😢 And i guarentee a lot of other people are doing the same. No need to waste your hard earned money here!!! South Twin Do Better!!! - Tiffany Olson

South Twin Lake Campground Introduce

For local users searching for "camping near me" in the La Pine, Oregon area, South Twin Lake Campground, located in La Pine, OR 97739, USA, presents a concerning picture based on recent customer reviews. While this campground may have held positive memories for some in the past, recent feedback indicates a significant decline in the overall experience. This introduction aims to provide an objective summary of the issues raised in these reviews, highlighting potential drawbacks that local campers should be aware of before considering a stay at South Twin Lake Campground.

One reviewer with fond memories of camping at South Twin Lake Campground in their youth expressed profound disappointment upon a recent return visit. They noted that the campground is "not anywhere close to being the same as it used too" and mentioned a change in ownership a couple of years prior. Despite hoping that the new management would maintain the values that made the place popular, their experience suggests a stark contrast from the family-oriented and fun atmosphere they remembered.

A central theme in the negative feedback is the apparent lack of customer service. The reviewer recounted an uncomfortable experience where staff members seemed more engrossed in their personal conversations on phones or with coworkers than in attending to customers. They described having to wait awkwardly for attention, only to be met with a rude and dismissive attitude. This lack of engagement and the unwelcoming demeanor of the staff are significant concerns for any camper seeking a pleasant and hospitable experience.

Further exacerbating the disappointment was the state of the campground's advertised "hand scooped ice cream" offering. The reviewer described a small booth with severely limited options, with everything except what was likely freezer-burnt vanilla being sold out. Adding to the negative impression was the lack of any toppings and the rude behavior of the staff member at the booth, who allegedly rushed the potential customers to order immediately before closing at what seemed to be an early hour in the afternoon, despite a lack of other customers. This experience suggests a decline in the quality of amenities and a continuation of poor customer interaction.

The overall sentiment of this reviewer is one of deep sadness over the perceived loss of a cherished family tradition, attributing the decline to the new ownership. They strongly advise others to "No need to waste your hard earned money here!!!" and urge South Twin Lake Campground to "Do Better!!!" This passionate and critical review serves as a significant warning to potential campers.

Adding to the concerns is a separate review detailing a negative experience with the campground's reservation policy. This reviewer states, "I would not trust these people - they do not offer you the ability to cancel a reservation even if you booked it months in advance. They took our deposit and were not willing to give it back. Be weary of this place." This inflexible cancellation policy, coupled with the loss of a deposit for a cancellation made well in advance, raises serious questions about the campground's fairness and customer-centric approach to bookings. Such a policy can be particularly problematic for travelers whose plans may change unexpectedly.

Based on these reviews, the environment of South Twin Lake Campground is not described in positive terms. While the location in La Pine, Oregon, suggests potential access to natural beauty and outdoor activities typical of the Bend/Sisters area, the reviews focus on the negative aspects of the management and amenities rather than the physical surroundings. The lack of positive comments about the campground's upkeep, cleanliness, or overall ambiance is notable. The mention of a once "family oriented and fun" place now being a "huge disappoint" implies a deterioration of the welcoming atmosphere.

The services and features of South Twin Lake Campground, as depicted in the reviews, appear to be lacking and poorly managed. The negative experience with the ice cream booth suggests a decline in the quality and availability of even basic amenities. The absence of positive feedback regarding other potential services, such as restroom facilities, campsite maintenance, or recreational areas, is also concerning. The rigid and unfavorable cancellation policy can also be considered a negative aspect of their service.

No promotional information is available in the provided reviews. Given the overwhelmingly negative feedback regarding customer service and reservation policies, it is unlikely that the campground is actively promoting itself without addressing these issues. Potential campers should be wary of any promotions they might encounter and weigh them against the serious concerns raised by previous visitors.

In conclusion, for local users searching for "camping near me" in the La Pine, Oregon area, the recent reviews for South Twin Lake Campground paint a concerning picture. The issues raised include a significant decline in customer service, poorly managed and limited amenities, and a rigid and unfavorable reservation cancellation policy. The strong negative sentiments expressed by former and prospective campers should be taken seriously. While the location in Central Oregon may offer inherent natural appeal, the operational and managerial aspects of South Twin Lake Campground appear to be significant drawbacks at this time.

Potential campers are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution when considering South Twin Lake Campground. It would be prudent to seek alternative camping options in the La Pine or Bend/Sisters area that have more positive and recent feedback regarding customer service, amenities, and reservation policies. If one still chooses to consider South Twin Lake Campground, it would be essential to contact them directly to inquire about their current policies and the status of their services, and to seek assurances regarding the issues raised in the recent reviews. However, based on the available information, proceeding with a booking at South Twin Lake Campground carries a significant risk of a disappointing and uncomfortable experience.
