Sturgeon Bay Cabin

Sturgeon Bay Rd, Carp Lake, MI 49718, USA

4.0
This cabin is remote with a gated entrance, allowing you to ensure that other campers do not wander up to your cabin while just driving through the park. It has a private beach, of sorts, as well. The only issue there being that it is not easily accessible and swimming requires a bit of work since the land is swamped fairly heavily. The cabin itself is a one room affair with bunking for 5, though I would not recommend using the bunks without bringing some bedding for your own. The only reason this cabin did not receive 5 stars was due to the terrible bunk padding. My wife and I are in our upper 30s and my son is 16, all of us woke up with back pain after a restless night.Still, all things considered it was well worth it and we will return for a longer visit as soon as we can, this time with better bedding! Walking the very long nature trail that starts where the road ends was a ton of creepy fun to do at night too, as was hanging out at the private beach and looking at the stars. - Rich Greiner

Sturgeon Bay Cabin Introduce

Seeking a unique and secluded "camping near me" experience in the scenic landscapes of Michigan's Upper Peninsula? Sturgeon Bay Cabin, located on Sturgeon Bay Rd in Carp Lake, MI, offers a remote retreat for those looking to escape the ordinary. While the provided customer reviews offer valuable insights into the cabin's specific characteristics, this introduction aims to synthesize this information to provide a detailed overview for local users considering this as their next getaway.

The environment surrounding Sturgeon Bay Cabin is explicitly described as remote, a significant draw for those seeking privacy and tranquility. The presence of a gated entrance underscores this sense of seclusion, providing an added layer of security and ensuring that through-traffic from the park does not disturb your peaceful retreat. This feature allows for a more intimate connection with nature, away from the hustle and bustle of busier campgrounds or cabin areas.

One of the unique features highlighted in the reviews is the presence of a "private beach, of sorts." This suggests potential access to a waterfront area, likely on Sturgeon Bay itself. While one reviewer notes that the beach is not easily accessible and the land is "swamped fairly heavily," the allure of a private water access point remains. Even with the challenges of accessibility and the marshy conditions, the opportunity to be near the water and potentially enjoy activities like wading, observing wildlife, or simply enjoying the views can be appealing. The reviewer also mentioned enjoying hanging out at the private beach and looking at the stars, indicating its value despite the accessibility issues.

The cabin itself is described as a "one room affair" with bunking space for up to five people. This suggests a rustic and communal living arrangement, ideal for small families or close-knit groups. The sleeping arrangement consists of bunks, which, according to a reviewer, might require bringing personal bedding for added comfort due to "terrible bunk padding." This is a crucial piece of information for potential guests to consider when planning their stay.

Despite the discomfort reported with the bunk padding, the overall sentiment from the reviewers is positive. One guest stated that "all things considered it was well worth it and we will return for a longer visit." This indicates that the unique aspects of the cabin and its location outweigh the bedding issue for many visitors, especially those prepared to bring their own bedding.

Another significant feature mentioned is the "very long nature trail that starts where the road ends." This trail offers an opportunity for exploration and immersion in the natural environment surrounding the cabin. The reviewer specifically noted that walking this trail at night was a "ton of creepy fun," suggesting a unique and perhaps slightly adventurous experience for those who enjoy nighttime nature walks. This adds another dimension to the outdoor activities available beyond the private beach area.

The aesthetic appeal of the cabin is also noted, with one reviewer describing it as a "beautiful, beautiful log cabin." This rustic charm likely contributes to the overall experience of a secluded nature getaway. The proximity to the beach, even with the marshy conditions, is also mentioned as a positive aspect of the location.

The surrounding woods are described as "interesting to look at," particularly the trees that grew at an angle. This highlights the unique natural environment of the area, suggesting potential for nature observation and appreciation of the local flora. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is known for its diverse ecosystems and scenic landscapes, and Sturgeon Bay Cabin offers a chance to experience this firsthand.
