Mackinaw Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Mackinaw City, Michigan area that's clean, convenient, and affordable? Consider Mackinaw Campground, located at 13496 Mackinaw Hwy, Mackinaw City, MI 49701, USA. While a direct phone number isn't provided in the information, the positive reviews offer valuable insights into what this campground has to offer for local campers and travelers.
Mackinaw Campground is described by visitors as a "very nice little campground," emphasizing its pleasant and manageable size. One of its notable features is its operation on an "honor system," which many appreciate for its simplicity and trust-based approach. This self-check-in process involves picking up an envelope, finding a site, filling out the envelope, and dropping it in a designated slot, making arrival and setup straightforward and efficient.
For those planning to have campfires, Mackinaw Campground offers a convenient amenity: "a ton of firewood" available for $10. This on-site availability eliminates the need to source firewood elsewhere, adding to the ease of the camping experience. The campsites themselves are praised for being "nice and flat" and "super clean," ensuring a comfortable setup for tents. Even the pit toilets are noted to be "extremely clean," which is a significant plus for campers who utilize these facilities. A minor point of feedback was that hand sanitizer was out at one of the locations, but overall, the cleanliness of the facilities is highly regarded.
Mackinaw Campground also caters to RV travelers, offering "hook up sites" that are also reported to be "very clean and very flat." While the exact nature of the hookups (water, electric, sewer) isn't fully detailed by the first reviewer, the second review mentions a price of "$40 a night" for a "water and electric site," suggesting these amenities are available. Additionally, the campground has a "dump station" accessible if you pay for a water/electric site, which is a valuable service for RV users.
For tent campers looking for a budget-friendly option, Mackinaw Campground offers an exceptionally affordable rate. One reviewer who needed a one-night stay for "dry camp" (no hookups) found the $20 fee for a tent site to be unbeatable for the location, even humorously comparing it to the cost of parking in a parking garage. This makes it an attractive choice for those prioritizing affordability and a clean, basic campsite.
It's important to note that Mackinaw Campground is not positioned as a "5-star campground," and it does have more basic facilities. As mentioned in the second review, there is "no shower house," and the restrooms are "vault toilets" (pit toilets). However, as highlighted earlier, these vault toilets are kept "extremely clean," which addresses a common concern with such facilities. The campground operates on a "first come, first served" basis, aligning with its self-check-in honor system.
Considering the "camping near me" platform category, Mackinaw Campground offers several appealing features and services:
- Affordable pricing, especially for tent sites ($20 for dry camping).
- Clean and flat tent campsites.
- Clean vault toilets.
- Water and electric hook-up sites available ($40 per night mentioned).
- Dump station access for those paying for water/electric sites.
- Firewood for sale on-site ($10 per bundle).
- Operation on a convenient honor system with self-check-in.
For local users and travelers in the Mackinaw City, MI area seeking a straightforward, clean, and budget-friendly camping option, Mackinaw Campground appears to be an excellent choice. Its proximity to Mackinaw City likely offers convenient access to local attractions, although these aren't detailed in the provided reviews. Mackinaw City is known for its access to Mackinac Island, the Mackinac Bridge, and various historical and natural sites in northern Michigan.
While the reviews don't extensively describe the natural environment of the campground itself, the mention of "nice" campsites suggests a pleasant outdoor setting. To learn more about the specific layout, the number of sites, and any regulations, one might need to visit the location or search for additional information online through camping directories or forums.
In conclusion, if you're looking for "camping near me" in Mackinaw City, MI, that prioritizes cleanliness, affordability, and ease of use, Mackinaw Campground is worth considering. Whether you're a tent camper looking for a great value overnight stay or an RV traveler needing hookups and a dump station, this campground seems to provide the essentials in a well-maintained setting. The honor system and self-check-in add to the convenience. While it lacks a shower house, the clean facilities and overall positive feedback make it a recommended option if your needs align with what it offers. Consider Mackinaw Campground for your next camping adventure in the area.

Mackinaw Campground Reviews
Very nice little campground. Honor system which I like, a ton of firewood for $10 is available, campsites were nice and flat super clean, The pit toilets were also extremely clean. Only complaint was that the hand sanitizer and one of them was out. I would definitely stay here again. Hook up sites are also available and they were also very clean and very flat.
Sep 26, 2024 · M JThis is not meant to be a 5 star campground. It fit my needs perfectly. Just needed a 1 night stay to dry camp, and for $20 for a tent site that can’t be beat in this location. Hell, I’ve paid more to park in a parking garage before. I believe for water and electric site it’s $40 a night. First come, first served you check yourself in. Just pickup an envelope find you a site, fill out the envelope and drop it in the slot. Piece of cake. It does have a dump station if you pay for water/electric site. No shower house, and vault toilets. Would definitely stay here again if the need arises.
Aug 02, 2024 · Douglas StoutThere's no phone number or website, and nobody is in the office on-site. Self-register only. There's firewood provided at $10/rack, which is a better deal than the $5 bundles sold roadside in the area. Tent sites aren't numbered and are located along the roadside. RV sites have electric and water, and there are vault toilets for tent campers. KOA was full, and we asked about this campsite, which they gave a grimace and shrug about. Quiet time starts at 9 pm, so try to get there and set up before then. There is a host site and phone number posted to reach them in case of any emergencies, but I didn't see anyone outside of their rv or tent. It's definitely better than sleeping in your car if the other campgrounds are full, but that's about all I can say. A handful of trees were cut down, so if you're in a tent, it will get hot in the morning since there's no shade
Jul 29, 2024 · Rivka Ballan-HoryschukClean and well maintained park that had water and electricity at the rv sites with a separate dump station. No frills but large lots, wood on site, and close to it all. Fire pit at each site and a picnic table, too. We felt safe there, too. Toilet is basic, no laundry or showers.
Aug 08, 2023 · Brigit KowalczykThis place is awesome! Totally affordable and has an honor system self-registration and commissary fridge that has their own chicken and even duck eggs! Owners are really nice. Water and electric hook up for $20/day. Wow! Cute rock circle fire pits and firewood bundles only $3!!! Quiet and peaceful with some large trees. Nice picnic tables at each site too. Love this place and the concept.
