Based on information available, the St. Ignace KOA aims to provide a convenient and potentially enjoyable camping experience for travelers exploring the beautiful surroundings of St. Ignace. The campground is part of the well-known KOA (Kampgrounds of America) network, which often signifies a certain standard of amenities and services.
Let's delve into what you can expect at the St. Ignace KOA, drawing from available information and real customer experiences.
Environment:
The location of St. Ignace KOA in Michigan suggests access to the natural beauty of the Upper Peninsula. This region is known for its stunning landscapes, including the Straits of Mackinac, forests, and proximity to various attractions. However, some customer feedback indicates potential environmental challenges within the campground itself. One review mentions that the tent sites were "all flooded and covered in muck," describing it as a "literal swamp." This suggests that at certain times, particularly after periods of rain, the tent camping area might experience significant water accumulation, potentially making it unusable. This is a crucial point for those considering tent camping and highlights the importance of checking current conditions before your visit.
On a more positive note regarding the overall campground environment, another reviewer mentioned that despite their specific site lacking trees, the campground itself was "very nice." This suggests that while some areas might have less shade, the general ambiance of the KOA could still be pleasant.
Services and Amenities:
KOA campgrounds typically offer a range of services to enhance your camping experience. One reviewer specifically highlighted that "the store was well stocked in everything you would need, including tents." This is a significant convenience, especially if you forget essential camping gear or need to purchase supplies during your stay. The presence of a well-stocked store can be a major advantage for all types of campers.
Furthermore, the same reviewer noted that "the people who worked the campground all spoke both English and French." This multilingual staff could be particularly beneficial for international travelers or those who are more comfortable communicating in French.
While other standard KOA amenities are not explicitly mentioned in the provided information, you can generally expect features like restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, and potentially recreational areas. Given it's a KOA, there might also be Wi-Fi access, although this is not confirmed in the provided text.
Features:
The primary feature of St. Ignace KOA is its location in proximity to St. Ignace and the surrounding attractions of the Upper Peninsula. This likely includes easy access to the Straits of Mackinac, Mackinac Island ferries, and other natural and historical sites in the area. The availability of different camping options – tent sites, RV sites, and potentially cabins – caters to a variety of traveler preferences.
However, the review mentioning the lack of space between tent sites is a significant feature to consider. The customer stated, "the lack of space between sites at least for the tent area is ridiculous. There's absolutely no room for moving around." This lack of privacy and personal space in the tent camping area could detract from the overall experience for some campers.
Promotional Information:
Based on the provided text, there isn't specific promotional information available. However, as a KOA campground, they likely participate in KOA's rewards program and may offer seasonal discounts or packages. To get the most up-to-date promotional details, it's recommended to contact them directly via phone or check the official KOA website.
Summary of Customer Feedback:
The limited customer reviews present a mixed picture. One camper had a very negative experience with the tent sites being flooded and felt that tent campers were treated as "low class citizens" due to the poor condition and lack of space. This is a serious concern for anyone planning to tent camp at this location.
Conversely, another reviewer found it to be a "very nice campground" overall, appreciating the well-stocked store and the bilingual staff. However, they did note the absence of trees on their specific site.
These contrasting experiences highlight the importance of considering your specific camping needs and potentially contacting the campground directly to inquire about the current conditions of the different camping areas.
For Local Users Seeking "Camping Near Me":
If you are a local resident looking for "camping near me" in the St. Ignace area, the St. Ignace KOA presents itself as a convenient option with a range of camping styles available. The well-stocked store and potentially helpful bilingual staff are definite positives. However, it is crucial to be aware of the reported issues with the tent camping area, particularly the flooding and limited space. If you are considering tent camping, it would be wise to inquire about the current conditions of the tent sites before making a reservation.
For RV campers, the negative review regarding tent sites might be less relevant, but it's still worth considering the overall management and upkeep of the campground. The positive feedback about the store and staff suggests that other aspects of the KOA could be well-maintained.
If you prefer cabin rentals, the reviews don't directly address this option, so further inquiry would be needed to understand the quality and availability of cabins at this location.
In conclusion, the St. Ignace KOA offers a range of camping accommodations and some helpful amenities. However, potential campers, especially those planning to tent camp, should be aware of the reported issues with flooded sites and limited space. It is recommended to contact the campground directly for the most current information on site conditions and availability to ensure a satisfactory "camping near me" experience.

St Ignace KOA Reviews
Drove 5 hours only to not be able to stay. The tent sites were all flooded and covered in muck. It was a literal swamp. The staff in the office was semi friendly but did hesitantly offer a refund after giving some speel about why they shouldn't. I feel ownership should either remove tent camping or rework the grounds for it as it was already flooded on a Wednesday and was supposed to rain on a Friday, so what would happen then. Also the lack of space between sites at least for the tent area is ridiculous. There's absolutely no room for moving around. Hate to say it but if your tent camper your low class citizen here

Jul 12, 2024 · Jessica Durand1st off, we consider ourselves travellers, not campers. So we do KOA a lot. This is a really nice place for camping, especially with kids. Very rustic and treed in,,satellites won't work unless looking straight up. Cable not so good, with very few channels, but over all, not a big issue for 2 nites. Spaces in bak not level at all but doable with a bit of work. I do find it irrating when places hav 1 water line for 2 spots. Which means we had to run line under trl to hook up 6 ft from front door. They are 50 years old and are doing upgrades as time goes along. Good an bad, but I would stay here again now that I know what to ask for. Spaces in front half are more level. Staff was great getting us a different place due to nothing but dirt, outside front door. It was rainey an misty so didn't want to track dirt in with 2 small dogs. Staff gave me an extra cable line since my 20 ft would not reach from hook up to trl. Like I said, it was a bit frustrating at first, but all was well an settled in for a Really nice visit
Jun 14, 2023 · wayne evansWe enjoyed our stay. The tent site was the flattest I've ever had. Basically a "sandbox" they leveled the dirt perfectly. We had a nice fire ring and table. Plenty of space. The bathrooms were cleaned. Workers were friendly, talked to a few. One came by and offered to take our trash bag.
Jul 25, 2024 · M NCalled last minute after being disappointed by the state Straits campground and they were able to find us a spot. The staff is very helpful and friendly. They deliver wood and ice to your site when you buy it. We even called on our way back from a motorcycle ride to ask for wood, because we weren’t going to make it before they closed and they had it ready. Our site was great. It was gravel. The table and fire pit were both clean. The main reason I was going to stay at the straits campground in town was so we could ride our bicycles to the Mackinac Island ferry. Well, guess what?? There is a free shuttle from the KOA campground to the ferry and back- they also transported our bicycles! It took 1 hour from the time we called the shuttle for us to get picked up, shuttled, ferried and be on the island! Return trip was just as fast and easy.Highly recommend!!
