Swede Point Park Introduce
For local residents in central Iowa searching for "camping near me," Swede Point Park, located at 1601 322nd Ln, Madrid, IA 50156, USA, offers a small and reportedly inexpensive option for both RV and tent campers. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground provides a quiet and relaxing atmosphere with convenient access to a significant local attraction: the High Trestle Trail. While it might not be a destination with extensive on-site activities, its strategic location and basic amenities make it a noteworthy consideration for those seeking a peaceful camping experience with opportunities for biking and exploring the surrounding area.
The environment of Swede Point Park is described as "very quiet and relaxing," suggesting a tranquil setting that appeals to those looking for a peaceful getaway. One of its key environmental features is its proximity to the High Trestle Trail, which is easily accessible via a "short bike ride." This rail-trail is a major recreational asset in the region, known for its scenic views, especially of the iconic High Trestle Trail Bridge. The campground's location thus provides direct access to miles of paved trail suitable for biking, walking, and running, allowing campers to immerse themselves in the surrounding Iowa landscape. Additionally, one reviewer mentioned a "short hike to the hidden meadow which was very peaceful," indicating that the park or the immediate vicinity offers some natural areas for exploration on foot. The presence of a "playground" with a "nice grassy area around it away from cars" suggests a family-friendly environment with a dedicated space for children to play safely. While the campsites are noted to be "a little close together" by one reviewer, the overall ambiance seems to prioritize peace and quiet, making it a potentially attractive option for those seeking respite from more crowded or activity-filled campgrounds.
In terms of services, Swede Point Park appears to offer basic but functional amenities. For RV campers, it is described as an "inexpensive RV park," implying the availability of RV sites, although the specific hookups (e.g., electric, water, sewer) are not detailed in the reviews. However, the positive feedback regarding the "good" shower pressure and consistently available "hot water" in the bathroom is noteworthy. The reviewer also mentioned that during their two-night stay, the bathroom was consistently stocked with "soap and toilet paper," indicating a basic level of maintenance. While acknowledging the public nature of the showers and recommending shower shoes (a standard suggestion for any public facility), the overall impression of the bathhouse area is that it is "clean." For tent campers, the "campsite spacing" is mentioned as being somewhat close together, which might be a consideration for those seeking more privacy between sites. The presence of a playground indicates a service catering to families with children. While the regulations reportedly limit stays to two weeks, one reviewer observed that some individuals appeared to be "long term residents," which could potentially impact the availability of short-term sites or the overall community feel of the campground. The availability of phone contact, (515) 353-4237 or +1 515-353-4237, provides a direct way for local users to inquire about specific services, including RV hookups, tent site availability, restroom facilities, and any other amenities offered.
The standout feature of Swede Point Park is undoubtedly its location providing easy access to the High Trestle Trail. This makes it a prime choice for cyclists and those interested in exploring this popular recreational trail. The trail connects several communities and offers stunning views, particularly from the iconic bridge over the Des Moines River Valley. The "hidden meadow" mentioned by one reviewer suggests that there might be other natural attractions or quieter spots within or near the park for those interested in short hikes and nature observation. The small size of the campground could be considered a feature for those who prefer a more intimate and less crowded camping experience. The playground with a grassy area is a significant feature for families with young children, providing a safe and enjoyable space for them to play. The positive remarks about the shower facilities (pressure and hot water) are also a notable feature, as reliable and clean restrooms are important for camper comfort. The fact that it is described as "inexpensive" makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers and local users looking for an affordable camping getaway. However, the closer campsite spacing might be a drawback for those prioritizing privacy.
Promotional information is not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. However, the fact that it is described as "inexpensive" inherently suggests a value proposition for local users seeking an affordable "camping near me" option. To learn about specific rates, seasonal discounts, or any other potential promotions, local residents should contact Swede Point Park directly using the provided phone numbers: (515) 353-4237 or +1 515-353-4237. It would be beneficial to inquire about the cost for RV sites (including any hookups), tent site fees, and any potential daily or weekly rates. Given its proximity to the High Trestle Trail, it might be worth asking if there are any packages or discounts offered in conjunction with local bike rental shops or trail-related activities. The apparent long-term residents mentioned in one review might suggest a community aspect to the campground, but it could also imply limited availability for short-term visitors at certain times, so inquiring about availability and booking in advance might be advisable, especially during peak seasons or weekends.
In conclusion, Swede Point Park near Madrid, IA, offers a quiet and inexpensive "camping near me" experience, particularly appealing to those interested in accessing the High Trestle Trail for biking and other recreational activities. While the campsites might be a bit close together for some, the campground provides basic but appreciated amenities like good showers with hot water and a playground for children. The presence of a peaceful "hidden meadow" nearby adds to its natural appeal. Local users seeking an affordable camping option with excellent access to a major regional trail should consider Swede Point Park. To obtain specific information on rates, services (including RV hookups), and availability, contacting the park directly at (515) 353-4237 or +1 515-353-4237 is recommended. Its quiet atmosphere and proximity to outdoor recreation make it a potentially valuable option for a local camping getaway.

Swede Point Park Reviews
Sweden Point Park is a small, inexpensive RV park that is an easy bike ride away from access to The High Trestle Trail. The shower pressure was good and always had hot water, but it cannot be adjusted. During my two night stay there was always soap and toilet paper in the bathroom. As in every public shower, I recommend wearing shower shoes. As far as campsite spacing-- I have stayed in places where the sites were more spread out, and I have stayed in sites where the campsites were closer together. The playground had a nice grassy area around it away from cars. Although the regulations say that stays are limited to two weeks, it appeared that some people were long term residents.
Sep 06, 2024 · Jolene KnightonVery quiet and relaxing place to camp. We only spent 1 night. Not much to do at the campground but the high trestle bridge is close. Took a short hike to the hidden meadow which was very peaceful. Camper pads are pretty level but a little close together for my liking. Didn’t use the bath house but area was clean.
Aug 21, 2021 · Tom NeeseEasy to locate a walk-up site after finding Ledges was already full on a Friday afternoon. Debatably this was also a nicer experience, having an empty lot on both sides. The bathroom is well maintained and feels almost new.
Jun 13, 2023 · Mr KruegerWe love exploring new campgrounds. We discovered Swede Point Park by reading great reviews from other campers. It is only 1/4 mile from the Des Moines river. It is a small campground but your campsites are not crowded and running into the people camping next to you. There are clean flush toilets and clean private shower stalls. A playground offers kids a play area and we also noticed a sand volley ball pit and a small basketball court. There are both electrical sites, group/buddy electrical sites and non electrical sites. Numerous walking trails and lots of nature to discover. Woodward is only a few minutes away and noticed there is a gas station and also a bar and grill. Also access points to the high trestle bridge and trail. The campground hosts were very friendly and were on site the entire weekend we were there. We can't wait to visit again!
Apr 30, 2018 · Andrea HOnly reason this is a 1 star is because I had to give it something! Let’s start with the good the shower houses are extremely clean and the lighting is amazing. Now on to the negative. Your way to close to the next camper. Some walked in our camp spot and got dog poo all over our rug. We checked our shoes and non of us had any on our shoes so it wasn’t us. No one picked up after there dog except the people we came with. We came back from Boone speed way past camp closing hours and we were meet by the “Rangers” they were rude which I do understand them questioning why we were coming in so late but the rudeness wasn’t called for. When we first got there we were meet by other campers talking about the homeless people that stay there. The dump station was primitive at best. This place was honestly creepy at night and I was a little worried for the children in our group! We will NOT be back!
