Three Forks Campground

Spanish Fork, UT 84660, USA

4.0
A great camping trip! My dad, my brother, and I all had a great weekend here last fall. I got there a day early and spend the first night alone with the fall colors, babbling brook, and my sketch book. It was wonderful, the only reason I couldn’t give it a perfect 5 was because there was a homeless couple staying a few sites away from us and, they kept asking me for a cigarette, or a lighter, or whatever the heck they wanted to bug me about. Also it gets confusing because online it says it is “three forks campground” but the sign when you get there is “dry canyon campground” but hey, it’s free, it’s close to the diamond fork hot springs, and I really had a good time. - Joshua Garner

Three Forks Campground Introduce

Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Spanish Fork area of Utah? Three Forks Campground, located in Spanish Fork, UT 84660, USA, presents an intriguing option for those seeking a potentially free and scenic camping experience. It's important to note a point of confusion mentioned by a recent visitor: while online listings refer to it as "Three Forks Campground," the signage at the location indicates "Dry Canyon Campground." Despite this discrepancy in names, the location offers access to beautiful natural surroundings and proximity to popular attractions.

The environment of Three Forks Campground is highly praised by visitors. Situated next to a river, the campground offers the soothing sounds of a "babbling brook" and the visual appeal of a riverside setting. One camper who visited in the fall specifically mentioned the "fall colors," suggesting that the area is particularly beautiful during this season. The campground's location is also a significant environmental feature, as it is reportedly only 1.5 miles away from the renowned 5th Water Hot Springs (also known as Diamond Fork Hot Springs, given its proximity). This makes it an ideal basecamp for those planning to visit the hot springs and enjoy their therapeutic waters. The area is described as "beautiful" and offers opportunities to immerse oneself in nature. However, one visitor noted an interaction with a homeless couple staying nearby, which, while isolated, is something to be aware of in potentially less regulated or free camping areas.

In terms of services, the information available suggests a relatively rustic camping experience. One reviewer explicitly stated that it is a "pack in, pack out location," meaning campers are responsible for bringing everything they need and taking all their trash with them upon departure. This is a common practice in more primitive or free camping areas, emphasizingLeave No Trace principles. Thankfully, despite the pack-in/pack-out nature, the campground does have a toilet available, which is a significant convenience. The first review also mentions the camper spending a night alone with their sketchbook, implying a sense of solitude and quiet, at least at times. The presence of other campers, as indicated by the encounter with the homeless couple, suggests that it is a shared space. The maintenance of the campground is described as "very clean and well maintained" by one visitor, which is a positive aspect, especially for a free or minimally serviced area.

The features of Three Forks Campground are primarily its natural setting and its proximity to outdoor attractions. The riverside location is a key feature, offering potential for relaxing by the water and enjoying the natural sounds. Its close proximity to the Diamond Fork (5th Water) Hot Springs is a major draw for many visitors, allowing for easy access to this popular destination. The fact that it is mentioned as "free" in one review is a significant feature for budget-conscious campers, although it's always wise to verify the current status of fees, as this can sometimes change. The "pack in, pack out" nature is a feature that appeals to those who prefer a moreLeave No Trace approach and are equipped for self-sufficiency. The availability of a toilet, even in a pack-in/pack-out setting, is a noteworthy feature that adds a degree of convenience. However, a somewhat unusual and potentially concerning feature is the presence of an "overly friendly skunk" who reportedly visits campsites nightly and attempts to "break in," showing no fear of people or dogs. While this skunk apparently hasn't sprayed anyone, its persistent presence and behavior are a significant consideration for campers, requiring vigilance in securing food and belongings.

Regarding promotional information, the most significant "promotion" appears to be the fact that the campground has been mentioned as "free" by a recent visitor. Free camping is a major draw for many outdoor enthusiasts. However, as with any free resource, it's subject to potential changes in management or the introduction of fees. Therefore, it would be prudent for potential visitors to verify the current fee status if this is a primary factor in their decision. The proximity to the Diamond Fork Hot Springs can also be seen as a promotional aspect, as it adds significant value to the camping experience by offering a nearby recreational opportunity. The positive reviews regarding the beauty of the area and the cleanliness of the campground also serve as indirect promotion, highlighting the appealing aspects of the location. However, the warnings about the skunk and the encounter with other less desirable visitors act as important counterpoints, ensuring an objective view.

In conclusion, Three Forks Campground, also known as Dry Canyon Campground, near Spanish Fork, Utah, offers a potentially free and scenic camping experience alongside a river and in close proximity to the popular Diamond Fork (5th Water) Hot Springs. Visitors have praised its natural beauty, especially during the fall, and noted that it is generally clean and well-maintained, despite being a pack-in/pack-out location with a pit toilet. However, potential campers should be aware of a few factors. Firstly, there is a discrepancy in the name between online listings and on-site signage. Secondly, while one visitor mentioned an isolated encounter with a homeless couple, it's a reminder to be aware of one's surroundings, especially in free camping areas. Most notably, the presence of a bold and persistent skunk that visits campsites nightly is a significant consideration requiring campers to take extra precautions with food storage and general awareness. Despite these caveats, the allure of free camping in a beautiful riverside location near hot springs may make Three Forks/Dry Canyon Campground an attractive option for some "camping near me" in the Spanish Fork area. It is recommended to approach this location with awareness of the potential challenges and to prioritize Leave No Trace practices.
