Tygart Lake State Park Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in West Virginia that offers a natural setting with lake access? Tygart Lake State Park Campground, located at the approximate address 7XPQ+FX, Grafton, WV 26354, presents an option for local users seeking an outdoor experience. Based on available reviews, the campground offers a "gorgeous camp spot tucked away deep into the park," suggesting a potentially serene and scenic environment for those looking to immerse themselves in nature.
One reviewer highlights the well-maintained grounds of the campground, indicating that efforts are made to keep the area tidy and presentable for visitors. This can contribute positively to the overall camping experience, providing a more pleasant and comfortable environment. However, this same reviewer also notes a significant drawback regarding noise levels, specifically mentioning dogs barking "all afternoon non-stop" and continuing into the evening. This is an important consideration for local users who value peace and quiet during their camping trips. The reviewer also reported disruptive noise from a late-arriving camper on a subsequent night, raising questions about after-hours management and gate security.
Another aspect mentioned in the reviews is the challenge of parking larger recreational vehicles. One camper towing a rig described the RV spots as "back in" and "tight," although not "impossible." This information is crucial for local users who own larger trailers or RVs and are considering Tygart Lake State Park Campground. Maneuverability within the campground and the size of the individual sites should be a key point of inquiry when contacting the park.
Despite the concerns about noise and parking, the second reviewer also emphasized the quiet and beautiful nature of the location. This suggests that when these issues are not prevalent, the campground can offer a tranquil and aesthetically pleasing experience. The deep setting within the park likely contributes to this natural beauty, potentially offering opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and enjoying the lake itself.
One positive service mentioned in a review is the availability of pre-ordered firewood delivered to the campsite by the ranger, even for late arrivals. This indicates a level of service and convenience that can enhance the camping experience, especially for those arriving after the main office hours. Local users who appreciate having firewood readily available should take note of this service.
The second reviewer also provided a helpful tip regarding wildlife, advising campers to keep their pets leashed due to the presence of "pretty active" raccoons (trash pandas). This suggests that wildlife is present in the area, which can be both a positive aspect for nature lovers and a factor requiring caution regarding food storage and pet safety. Local users planning to bring pets should be aware of this and adhere to any park regulations regarding leashes and wildlife interaction.
Given the mixed nature of the reviews, local users considering Tygart Lake State Park Campground should weigh the potential benefits of a scenic location and ranger services against the reported issues with noise and parking for larger rigs. It is highly recommended to contact the Tygart Lake State Park directly using the provided phone numbers, (304) 265-6144 or +1 304-265-6144, to gather more detailed and current information. When calling, specific inquiries should include: the typical noise levels within the campground, especially regarding pets; the ease of parking for different sizes of RVs and trailers, including site dimensions and accessibility; the security procedures, particularly after hours; the amenities available at the campground, such as restrooms, showers, water hookups, and electrical hookups; and any specific rules or regulations regarding pets and wildlife.
Furthermore, local users should inquire about the environment surrounding the campground. What is the proximity to Tygart Lake and what kind of lake access is available (e.g., swimming areas, boat launches, fishing spots)? Are there hiking trails or other recreational activities within the state park? Understanding the natural attractions and recreational opportunities in the vicinity will help local users determine if Tygart Lake State Park Campground aligns with their desired "camping near me" experience.
Finally, it is always prudent to ask about any current promotional offers, seasonal rates, or reservation policies when contacting the campground. State parks sometimes offer discounts for local residents or for off-season camping. Gathering this information will help local users make an informed decision about their camping plans at Tygart Lake State Park Campground. While the location appears to have natural beauty, addressing the concerns raised in the reviews through direct communication with the park management is essential for a satisfactory camping experience.

Tygart Lake State Park Campground Reviews
The grounds are well maintained. The shower although it had no place to lay your things was hot. When we got settled into our spot which was a challenge for us to back into we immediately heard the dogs. They barked all afternoon non-stop. We decided to chance another night because we were going to be out all day. The same thing once we returned they barked up to 10:30 until I fell asleep of exhaustion. The first night appeared to be shirtless drunk drove in after 10 wondering around the unattended store, I hollered if the person was ok and then went and asked something of my neighbor. The second night after ten pm a camper came in making all sorts of noise. They settled quickly but that should not be allowed, is the gate even locked?
Apr 29, 2025 · Heidi HoneaGorgeous camp spot tucked away deep into the park. Tough to park a rig you're towing as the rv spots are back in and it's tight but not impossible. It's quiet and beautiful here. I got in late so the ranger left my pre-ordered firewood at my site. Keep your pups leashed, the trash pandas are pretty active!
