The environment surrounding Vining Cabin is clearly a significant draw. Situated in Stanardsville, it likely offers a peaceful and natural setting, typical of the Virginia countryside. One reviewer described the property as "just a beautiful property," suggesting that guests can expect scenic surroundings conducive to relaxation and outdoor activities. For local users looking for "camping near me" that provides an escape into nature, Vining Cabin seems to fit the bill.
Vining Cabin stands out due to its history and management. It is described as a "rustic cabin preserved by the Vining Family and managed by the Volunteers of the PATC (Potomac Appalachian Trail Club)." This connection to the PATC suggests that the cabin is likely well-located for those interested in hiking and exploring the Appalachian Trail or related trails in the area. The fact that it's preserved and managed by volunteers adds a unique character, hinting at a commitment to maintaining its rustic charm and accessibility for outdoor enthusiasts looking for "camping near me."
Based on the reviews, Vining Cabin offers practical amenities for a comfortable stay. One guest highlighted a "Great kitchen and bathroom," which is a significant advantage over more basic camping options. Having a well-equipped kitchen allows for easy meal preparation, and a proper bathroom adds a level of convenience that many seeking "camping near me" in a cabin setting appreciate. However, another guest recommended bringing a box fan or two for the windows, possibly indicating that natural ventilation might be limited at times, particularly during warmer months.
The spaciousness of the cabin is also noted, with one reviewer describing it as "Very spacious." This would make Vining Cabin suitable for families or groups looking for "camping near me" where they can comfortably spread out. The combination of a great kitchen, bathroom, and spaciousness suggests a level of comfort beyond traditional tent camping, making it an appealing option for various types of travelers.
For those interested in hiking, one reviewer specifically mentioned the PATC Mutton Hollow map as being reliable for exploring the area, advising to "Stick to the PATC Mutton Hollow map and you'll be good for hiking," and to "Ignore any hand drawn map of the property you might find." This strongly suggests that Vining Cabin is located in an area with accessible hiking trails, making it an ideal base for those looking for "camping near me" with opportunities for outdoor adventure.
One minor point mentioned was that "Upstairs smelled like mouse pee." While this is something to be aware of, the reviewer still indicated they "Would stay again," suggesting that the overall positive aspects of the cabin and its location outweighed this issue. It's a candid piece of feedback that provides a realistic expectation for those considering a stay.
Regarding basic necessities, one guest mentioned they "Drank the water without an issue," implying that potable water is available at the cabin. This is an important consideration for any "camping near me" experience, and it's reassuring to know that a guest found the water to be safe to drink.
Accessibility to the cabin is also touched upon, with a reviewer noting that their "buddy drove up in a front wheel drive truck just fine," but they "left my car at the gate." This suggests that while some vehicles can reach the cabin, others might require parking at a gate and perhaps a short walk. Local users planning their "camping near me" trip to Vining Cabin should consider the type of vehicle they have and be prepared for a potential short walk to the cabin itself.
In conclusion, Vining Cabin in Stanardsville, VA, offers a unique "camping near me" experience in a rustic setting, preserved by the Vining Family and managed by PATC volunteers. It boasts a beautiful property with access to hiking trails (particularly those on the PATC Mutton Hollow map), a great kitchen and bathroom, and spacious living areas. While there might be some rustic elements to be aware of, such as the upstairs smell mentioned, the overall experience seems positive for those seeking a blend of nature, history, and basic comforts. If you're a local user looking for a "camping near me" option with character and access to the outdoors, particularly hiking, Vining Cabin could be an excellent choice. To learn more about booking and specific details, you would likely need to contact the PATC or look for listings related to Vining Cabin rentals in the Stanardsville area.

Vining Cabin Reviews
Stayed here in early July. My buddy drove up in a front wheel drive truck just fine. I left my car at the gate. Recommend bringing a box fan or two for the windows. Great kitchen and bathroom. Very spacious and just a beautiful property. Ignore any hand drawn map of the property you might find. Stick to the PATC Mutton Hollow map and you'll be good for hiking. Upstairs smelled like mouse pee. Drank the water without an issue. Would stay again.
